Margo E. Cook
PLATTSBURGH —
Margo E. Cook, 59, of South Catherine Street, Plattsburgh, died Friday,
July 8, 2005, at her home.
She was born in
Watertown, N.Y., on Dec. 22, 1945, the daughter of Carl and Dorothy
(Cole) Bennett.
Margo married
David L. Cook on Sept. 4, 1970, at the Plattsburgh Air Force Base
Chapel. She was a member of the Plattsburgh United Methodist Church.
Margo was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, The Order of
the Amaranth, Plattsburgh Republican Women, North Country Girl Scouts,
PWOC and Ladies of the Elks.
Survivors include
her husband, David Cook of Plattsburgh; three daughters, Dorothea Boire
of Plattsburgh, Gerri Cook of Norwalk, Ohio, and Dawn and Jeffrey Dumas
of Staten Island, N.Y.; one son, Shawn Cook of Keeseville; two brothers,
Arthur and Carolyn Bennett of Rumford, Mich., and Robert Bennett of
Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Bennett Tucker of
Watertown, N.Y., and Madeline Bennett of Watertown, N.Y.; and five
grandchildren.
She was
predeceased by one brother, David Bennett.
Calling hours will
be held on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in
Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at
the United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Riverside
Cemetery in Plattsburgh.
Memorial donations
may be made to Hospice of the North Country or to the Order of the
Eastern Star.
Gladys Fortin
PLATTSBURGH —
Gladys "Chickie" Jean Fortin passed away peacefully at her
home Sunday, July 10, 2005, surrounded by her nine children.
Chickie was born
Nov. 12, 1928, in Chateaugay, N.Y., to Mildred and Robert Martin the
oldest of 11 children.
She graduated from
Plattsburgh High School in 1946. Chickie married Leo P. Fortin on Sept.
2, 1947.
She worked as a
telephone operator for Bell Telephone and was instrumental in the office
operations at A. Fortin’s Sons prior to starting her family and
becoming a full-time wife and mother.
Chickie will be
remembered as a kind gentle person who opened her home to everyone,
feeding them and making them feel welcome with a cup of coffee or
something to eat. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and children
when they were young and later with friends. Chickie enjoyed cross
country skiing, bowling, reading, her flower gardens, watching Jeopardy
and going to the casinos. The real pride of her life was her family and
she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by
her children and their spouses, Dennis Fortin of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Mark
and Pam Fortin of Plattsmouth, Neb., Kim and Ann Fortin of Plattsburgh,
N.Y., Timothy Fortin of Portland, Maine, Lynne and Del Scholfield of
Greeley, Colo., Neil Fortin of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Lee and Laurie Fortin
of Ogden, Utah, Amy and Raney Tromblee of South Berwick, Maine, and Todd
and Holly Fortin of Peru, N.Y. Her siblings and their spouses are Grace
and John Demarse, Harriett Taylor, Robert and Rosie Martin, Janice and
Leon Trombley, Jerry and Leona Martin, Steve and Nancy Martin, Wayne and
Marge Martin, Bruce and Connie Martin and David and Annette Martin. She
is also survived by 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and
several nieces and nephews.
Chickie was
preceded in death by her husband, Leo P. Fortin; and her brother,
Richard Martin.
A memorial Mass
will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at St. Peter’s Church
in Plattsburgh, N.Y. Interment will follow at the St. Peter’s
Cemetery.
In lieu of
flowers, please make donations to the H.K. Freedman Renal Center, c/o
the CVPH Medical Center Foundation and/or Hospice of the North Country.

Gary L. Guerin
ELLENBURG Depot
— Gary L. Guerin, 52, of Ellenburg Depot, died Sunday, July 10, 2005,
at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
He was born in
Plattsburgh on Oct. 9, 1952, the son of Edward E. and Bertha (Gay)
Guerin.
He was employed at
Northland Hides in Ellenburg Depot for many years.
He is survived by
his wife, Margaret (Perry) Guerin; four sons, Gary Perry of Ellenburg
Depot and companion Katie Langlois, Eric and Lisa Guerin of Mooers,
Corey Guerin of Ellenburg and Chad Guerin; a daughter, Melissa Perry and
companion Adam Nichols of Churubusco; his mother, Bertha Guerin of
Ellenburg Depot; his brothers, Edward and Nancy Guerin of Ellenburg
Depot, Larry and Shirley Guerin of Ellenburg Depot, David Guerin and
Sonny Lamb of Mineville, Donald and Brenda Guerin of Ellenburg Depot,
Victor Guerin of Ellenburg Depot, Henry Guerin of Ellenburg Depot,
Howard and Mary Guerin of Mooers; his sisters, Stella and Raymond Perry
of Altona, Deborah and Timmy Lord of Chateaugay, Sheila and Rusty Dupee
of Mooers, Connie and Danny Russell of Ellenburg Depot, Barbara Guerin
of Ellenburg, Loretta and Jerry Vincent of Altona, Brenda and Sam
Bisonette of Chazy and Pamela and Red Provost of Ellenburg Center; five
grandchildren, Ashley, Rosie, Samantha, Brandon and Brianna; and several
nieces and nephews.
His father,
Edward; a brother, John; and a sister, Rebecca Clausen, died earlier.
Calling hours will
be held on Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in
Ellenburg Depot. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10
a.m. Wednesday from St. Edmund’s Church in Ellenburg. Interment will
follow in the parish cemetery.
Mildred A. Lobdell
Willsboro —
Mildred A. Lobdell, 88, formerly of Willsboro, N.Y., died at the Horace
Nye Home in Elizabethtown, N.Y., Sunday, July 10, 2005.
She was born in
Lyon Mountain, N.Y., June 24, 1917, the daughter of David and Anna (St.
Germain) Taylor.
Mrs. Lobdell was a
member of St. Philip’s Church in Willsboro.
She is survived by
three sons and their wives, Spencer and Jane of Willsboro, Harvey and
Sylvia of Beekmantown and Rodney and Stacey of Willsboro; seven
grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces
and nephews.
She was
predeceased by her husband, Spencer in April 1978; and her sister,
Marguerite Ashline in August 2004.
There are no
scheduled calling hours and the funeral service will be private for the
family. Burial will take place in the Memorial Cemetery, Lakeshore Road,
Willsboro.
In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to the Willsboro/Reber
Rescue Squad.
Browne Morgan Littell
FALMOUTH, MASS.
— "Always Sail With A Fair Wind"
Dr. Browne Morgan
"Brownie" Littell, 66, of Fells Road, drowned in the waters
off Surf Drive near his home on Tuesday, July 5, 2005 with his dog
"Fritz".
The son of Rev. F.
Joseph and Alice (Morgan) Littell, he was born in Newark, N.J., on Aug.
3, 1938.
Mr. Littell grew
up and attended schools in Plattsburgh, N.Y., graduating from
Plattsburgh High School in 1956. He received his bachelors degree from
Union College in 1960. While at Union he became a member of Sigma Chi
Fraternity. He then received his masters from Columbia University and
his PhD. from Boston University. He taught graduate courses in English
Literature at Tufts University and Boston College for the American
Studies Program, specializing in the works of Herman Melville.
Browne had a
passion for sailing and as a young boy, taught himself in the family’s
Beetle Cat. He soon was an expert sailor and navigator. He became the
Woods Hole Yacht Club’s Steward in 1955, a position he held for many
years.
His boat, "Hecate",
one of the last two "Cape Cod Knockabouts" produced in
fiberglass, was his pride and joy. He was the winningest
"Knockabout" racer at the Woods Hole Yacht Club and won
several national championships in that class as well. Browne’s
interests were not confined to sailing alone. He was an avid reader and
writer, was on the board of directors of the Woods Hole Historical
Collection and repaired and restored classic and antique boats. He loved
his Cape Cod home where he grew beautiful roses and cared for his ailing
mother in her final years. He was also fond of his Union College and
Sigma Chi Fraternity days.
Survivors include
his brother and sister-in-law, Gregory and Carole Littell of Malone,
N.Y.; sisters, Deborah Alice Littell of Marston Mills, Mass., and
Glorice Dodds Phoebus and her family of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; his aunt,
Mrs. Edna Literati of Conneaut, Ohio; his childhood and closest friend,
Richard Walker, his wife, Lorraine and daughter, Cassie of Plattsburgh;
and friends and relatives in Canada and the U.S.A.
A memorial service
will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at 4 p.m. at the Woods Hole
Yacht Club.

E. STONE, 76,
formerly of Durand Road, Beekmantown, died Monday, July 11, 2005, at
CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
She was born in
Ellenburg Center, April 2, 1929, the daughter of George and Dorothy (Prespare)
LaFountain.
Calling hours will
be held from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hamilton Funeral Home in
Peru. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Home
in Peru. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Plattsburgh.
