Geraldine Agnes Baker

BEEKMANTOWN — Gone is all suffering and anguish and worry for Geraldine Agnes Baker.

On July 9, 2005, Gerry completed her allotted time on earth and began a new journey to be with the Lord Jesus in the Elysium Fields, along that golden shore where we shall all meet again one day.

Gerry was born Aug. 4, 1922, in the home of the family farm on Rand Hill. She was the daughter of Henry and Edith LaVarnway.

She spent her early school years in Beekmantown District Number Ten School, a log-cabin building located on what is now the Gene Lefevre Road. She capped her educational efforts with an associates of arts degree from Jefferson College in Missouri.

Gerry was united in holy matrimony with John B. Baker at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh on Aug. 23, 1944. Three children were born of this union, Susan, Cheryl and Bryan, all of whom survive.

Gerry is further survived by John, her husband of 62 years; two brothers, Harold and Donald LaVarnway; one sister, Elizabeth Johnson, of Liberty, Ind.; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gerry had a great zest for ballroom dancing, and she was an excellent dancer. She and her husband, John, spent many happy hours on dance floors during their 62 years together. They danced in some of America’s finest ballrooms in New York City, Norfolk, Va., New Orleans, Honolulu, San Francisco, St. Louis, Kansas City and Chicago.

Funeral rites will be private for the immediate family. Arrangements are with the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

To my Gerry:

Hand in hand across the years,
I have walked with you,
Along a twisted road,
And through trying times.
When our life on earth is through,
Somewhere among the stars I’ll find you.
And once again —
I’ll take your hand in mine.

JOHN
