Hughes Kilburn

WILMINGTON — Hughes Kilburn, 84, died on Wednesday, July 16, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Wilmington, on April 1, 1921, the son of Abram and Lillian (Hughes) Kilburn.

He graduated from Lake Placid High School in 1939. After high school, he worked at Worthington Pump in Holyoke, Mass., while living in South Hadley Falls, Mass. He married Gloria (Lawrence) on Oct. 11, 1941. He joined the Navy and served during World War II from 1944 to 1946. When he finished his tour in the service, he worked at Haselton Lumber Company. Then he worked for NYS Department of Environmental Conservation for 34 years, starting at the Bobsled Run, then was supervisor on the trails and built many lean-tos in the North Country. They moved to Crown Point where he was supervisor for five campsites as well as the boat launches until his retirement in May of 1983. They moved back to Wilmington later. He was a member of the American Legion in Lake Placid and the Veterans of Foreign War in Mineville.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gloria (Lawrence) Kilburn; a son, Dennis, predeceased him in 1985. He is survived by one sister, Kathleen (Kilburn) LeClair of Upper Jay; nine siblings predeceased him, Irene Kilburn, Ulysses Kilburn, R. Basil Kilburn, Veryl (Kilburn) Wells, Marion (Kilburn) Wells, Susan (Kilburn) Doyle, Lillian Kilburn, Roosevelt Kilburn and Georgc Kilburn. Many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews also survive.

He was very devoted to his wife, Gloria. He was a wonderful help to those in need and always put others before himself. He loved spending time at camp and getting together with his many friends and family whenever possible. He loved playing cards, hunting, snowmobile, riding 4-wheeler and camping. His sense of humor, storytelling and fondness for practical jokes was legendary.

Memorials may be made in his memory to American Cancer Society.

Calling hours will be held Friday, July 8, 2005, 12 noon to 1:45 p.m. at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home in AuSable Forks.

Funeral services will immediately follow on June 8, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Audrey Jean Duntley Ames

Bellvue, Neb. — Audrey Ames (Jeanie), of Bellvue, Neb., passed away Sunday, July 3, 2005, at Bergen Mercy Hospital.

She was born in Wadhams, N.Y., the daughter of Lloyd G. Duntley and Mary (Anson) Duntley.

She graduated from Westport Central School and Plattsburgh State University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She obtained a master’s degree in counseling at the University of Nebraska in Omaha.

Jeanie taught at Ramey Air Force Base in Puerto Rico, Fort Crook and Twin Ridge in the BelIvue Nebraska School Systems.

She is survived by her children, Anita (Ames) Mascarella, Scott and Sandy Ames and Brian and Cecile Ames; her grandchildren, Katelyn, Jessica and Steven Mascarella, Ashleigh, Tyler and Trevor Ames and Jeremy and Abigail Ames; her siblings and their spouses, Russell Duntle of Westport, Ann and Frank Pabst of Plattsburgh, Hilda Mann of Irvington, N.Y., Alan and Tammy Duntley of Wasilla, Alaska, Leon and Jocelyn Duntley of Lyons, N.Y., Lynn and Nona Duntley of Lewis, Nancy and Joseph Fournier of Plattsburgh, Milton and Eleanor Duntley of El Paso, Texas, and Fay and Wendall Babbie of Flat Rock, N.C.; five aunts; one uncle; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, Lloyd and Mary Duntley.

Coming home to the north country in the summer for various reunions gave her great pleasures. She always enjoyed being with family and friends. Her passing leaves a void in the lives of all who knew her.

A memorial service will take place at a later date.

Marie Delima Powers

Saranac — Marie Delima Powers, 79, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Born in Pembrook, Ontario, on Oct. 31, 1926, she was the daughter of Albert and Josephine (Lejeune) Pelletier.

Delima and her family moved to the U.S. when she was a baby. She married Victor A. Powers on May 10, 1948, in St. Michael’s Church in Standish.

Delima was a member of the Catholic Daughters at St. Bernard’s Church in Lyon Mountain. She also belonged to the Clinton County chapter of Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), the Saranac Seniors, the Merry Lyoneers and was a volunteer to many churches. She worked at Lyon Mountain High School cafeteria for many years and was a Eucharistic Minister at the Church of the Assumption in Redford.

Her family and friends will cherish their memories of her fantastic cooking, knitting, gardening and craftwork.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and James Litle of Apache Junction, Ariz. and Alice and Mark Hardesty of North Pole, Alaska; a grandson, Timothy Allen Dye and his wife Shanin of Wichita, Kan.; and a great-granddaughter, Nekyia Dye of Fairbanks, Alaska; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Leo and Winifred Pelletier of Wynantskill, N.Y., John and Rose Pelletier of West Chazy and Thomas and Gloria Pelletier of Saranac; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; and her husband, Victor, who died on June 13,1988.

Calling hours will be Thursday, July 7, 2005, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the O’Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, at 10 a.m. from The Church of the Assumption in Redford. Burial will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Lyon Mountain. A reception will follow the burial at the American Legion in Redford.

Memorial donations may be made to the Saranac Fire Department and Rescue Squad.
