Evelyn M. Leege

ELLENBURG CENTER — Evelyn M. Leege was born in Ellenburg Center, N.Y., July 6, 1911. The daughter of Wallace and Elizabeth Cooke.

She married Edward H. Leege in 1936. They owned and operated the Western Auto Store and gas Station in Champlain, N.Y.

Evelyn was a member of RSVP volunteer program for over 20 years, a member of Eastern Store, a member of Dottie and the Golden Notes and she was also a member of Topshelf singing group. She was a volunteer at Eye Care for the Adirondack and was voted volunteer of the year. She also volunteered at CVPH. She is a member of the Peru Community Church. She loved her church and her church family.

The love of her life was her husband Ed and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with them, She was a loving, caring person with a wonderful sense of humor.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Bev Leege of Morrisville, N.Y.; A daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Bob Leahy of Peru, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Stacy Hillman of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Scott Leahy of Boston, Mass., Sandi Karfa of Grand Hover, Mich., Bill Leege of Albany, N.Y. and Robin Callioras of Peru, N.Y.; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband, Edward Leege; two brothers, George Cooke and Raymond Cooke; her sisters, Exzina Patrie and Hazel Wells.

A memorial service will be held at the Peru Community Church in Peru, N.Y. on July 16, 2005 at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Champlain, N.Y.

Funeral arrangements are by Clarks Funeral Home in Champlain, N.Y.

Donations may be made in her loving memory to the Peru Community Church or Evergreen Valley Nursing Home activity room 8 Bushey Blvd. Plattsburgh, NY 12901.

Gerald G. Jarvis

MASSENA — Gerald "Jerry" G. Jarvis, 65, of Amherst Road, Massena, N.Y., died Thursday, June 30, 2005, at Massena Memorial Hospital in Massena, N.Y.

Mr. Jarvis was employed by Alcoa as a heater-trucker starting employment in 1966, and retiring in 2001. He was a member of 25 Year Club at Alcoa, a member of the Diamonds Sportsman Club, South Colton. Lifetime member of the NRA.

Born on Aug. 15, 1939, in Altona, N.Y., the son of Donald and Leona (Macey) Jarvis.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; two daughters, Mrs. Scott (Tammy) Manley of Massena, N.Y., Trina A. Jarvis of Raleigh, N.C.; a son, Kevin and wife Tracy Jarvis of Massena, N.Y.; two granddaughters, Marissa and Courtney Manley both of Massena; seven sisters, Marion Bacon of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Lucy LaValley of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Mrs. Robert (Exzina) Perry of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Mrs. Carlton (Pauline) Rabideau of Ellenburg, N.Y., Mrs. Everest (Nancy) Small of Massachusetts, Mrs. Donald (Ella) Lucia of Port Tobacco, Md., Mrs. Edward (Bernice) Molvihill of Chicopee, Mass.; three brothers, Donald Jarvis Jr. of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Lester Jarvis address unknown, Massachusetts, Francis and Elaine Jarvis of Altona, N.Y.; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Anne Mae Hoffman; several nieces and nephews.

He married Joan Rinn on Aug. 22, 1963, at St. Edmund’s Church with the Rev. Gilbert Faucher presiding. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed golfing. He enjoyed gardening and helping out in farming.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, Burlington, Vt. or American Cancer Society.

Calling hours will be Sunday, July 3, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena.

A funeral Mass will be Monday, 11 a.m. July 4, 2005, at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Donald J. Manfred, presiding. Internment will be at the Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Phillips Memorial Home, Inc. 64 Andrews St., Massena, N.Y.

Marshall J. Bordeau Jr.

AUSABLE FORKS — Marshall J. Bordeau Jr., 52, of Union Falls Road, Silver Lake, died Friday, July 1, 2005, at the Heritage Villa Manor in Dayton, Texas.

He was born in Plattsburgh on March 28, 1953, the son of Marshall J. and Jeanette (Burrell) Bordeau Sr.

Marshall attended AuSable Valley Central School and in 1971 entered the U.S. Navy. He served in the Navy for four years, and was discharged in 1975. In 1977, Marshall moved to Texas where he worked as a plumber for Crosby Plumbing and Richard Plumbing. He also went to work for Brown and Root from 1981 to 1983 on Ocean Builder 1 in the Port of Spain. In 1995, he moved back to New York and worked for Roto Router and as a plumber for Bruce Charland Refrigeration in Peru.

Survivors include one daughter, Jamie Bordeau of Dayton, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Carol Bordeau of Moriah, N.Y.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Janet and Thomas Fisher of Dayton, Texas, Barbara and George Moulton of Dayton, Texas and Agnes and Richard LaValley of Plattsburgh; two aunts, Florence Burrell of Albany, N.Y. and Melvina Salls of Saranac Lake, N.Y.; five nieces; nine nephews; and several cousins.

There will be no public calling. Funeral services will be announced at a later date and time in Silver Lake.

The R.W. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Baber Lounsbury

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. — Ruth Baber Lounsbury passed away in St. Petersburg, Fla. on Friday, June, 24, 2005, after a brief illness.

Formerly a resident of Keeseville and Lockport, N.Y., Ruth was born on Aug. 25, 1917 in Keeseville.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lockport and recently attended Pasadena Community Church in St. Petersburg. Ruth was an Eastern Star member, a volunteer at Lockport Memorial Hospital and was an avid golfer and bridge player.

Ruth married William John Lounsbury on Sep. 16, 1944.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, John B. and Barbara Lounsbury of Beverly, W.Va.; one daughter and son-in-law, Judith L. and Charles Willis of Tierra Verde, Fla.; five grandchildren, Ryan and Emily Lounsbury and Michael, Susan and John Elliott; seven great-grandchildren, John and Nicole Elliott, Devin, Madison and Jenna Elliott, Jordan Elliott and John Andrew Creel III.

She was predeceased by her husband, Bill after 56 years of marriage and her parents, Alfred and Jennie Winslow Baber.

A memorial service was held at College Harbor Retirement Community in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Tuesday, June 28, 2005. A graveside service will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Keeseville on Tuesday, July 5, at 2 p.m. the Rev. Megan Stowe, officiating.

Germaine Marie Reid

LEBANON, N.J. — Germaine Marie Reid, 94, formerly of Lebanon, N.J., died Monday, June 27, 2005, at Jackson Health Care, Jackson, N.J.

Born in St. Louis de Gonzague, Quebec, Canada on July 15, 1910, she was the daughter of Felix and Emma (Viau) Pichard.

She was married to Frank Reid. He predeceased her on Jan. 9, 1970.

Mrs. Reid is survived by a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Reid of Lebanon, N.J.; four grandchildren, Christopher Reid of Jackson, N.J., Matthew Reid of Oxford, N.J., Meghan Bogado of Hillsborough, N.J., Peter Reid of Glenside, Pa.; 10 great-grandchildren; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Deneige and Lester LaBare of Port Richey, Fla., Margaret and Harold LaVarnway of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Gertrude and Carl Murray of Port Richey, Fla., and Rita Murphy of Holiday, Fla.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents; her son, Lucien Reid on Aug. 17, 1996; four brothers, Charles, Gerald, Ubald, Lucien and Real Pichard; and two sisters, M. Cecile Demarse and Lucille Jarvis.

Mrs. Reid was a waitress at Schraffts Restaurant in Manhattan for 14 years. She lived in Chateaugay for three years before moving back to New Jersey to live with her son after her husband’s death.

There will be no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, in St. Patrick’s Church with the Rev. John Demo, officiating. The family will greet family and friends at 4:30 p.m. at the church.

Burial will take place Thursday, July 7, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Chateaugay.

Arrangements are with the Chateaugay Funeral Home.

Gerald Juntunen

LYON MOUNTAIN — Gerald "Jerry" Juntunen, 68, of Boomhower Road, Lyon Mountain, died Friday, July 1, 2005, at CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh, N.Y.

Born in Painsdale, Mich., on Nov. 6, 1936, he was the son of William and Dorothy (Kangas) Juntunen.

He was married to Joan Gillette on Jan. 21, 1960, in St. Bernard’s Church, Lyon Mountain.

Mr. Juntunen is survived by his wife of 45 years; his mother of Lyon Mountain, N.Y.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Lisa Juntunen of Malone, Bryan and Randie Juntunen of Merrill, Jamey and Tammy Juntunen of Chazy Lake; a sister, Carol Juntunen Lowery of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; a brother, Charles and Susan Juntunen of Mt. Vernon, Wash.; seven grandchildren, Doug, Alysia, Derek, Kelsey, Meagan, Joshua and Brett; a special niece, Angel Lowery; two nieces, Maren and Kirsten; a close personal friend, Dr. Carl Bromwich.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1979.

Mr. Juntunen graduated from Lyon Mountain High School where he was very active in sports, especially basketball and later was a catcher for the Lyon Mountain Miner Baseball Team. He entered the U.S. Army in 1955, and was honorably discharged in 1958. He worked at Republic Steel, Lyon Mountain as a driller and later was employed by the NYS Department of Corrections for 28 years when he retired in 1996 from Lyon Mountain Correctional Facility. Jerry was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and hobbies, which included wood carving and stone cutting. His greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Lyon Mountain United Methodist Church and Rocky Brook Hunting Club.

Calling hours will be held at Lyon Mountain Funeral Home on Monday, July 4, from 1 to 5 p.m.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, in Lyon Mountain United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken Davis, officiating. Burial will take place at Lyon Mountain Methodist Cemetery, Lyon Mountain.

Donations in his memory may be made to Lyon Mountain United Methodist Church.

Esther Hughes

WESTPORT — Esther Mary Hughes, 99, of Champlain Avenue, Westport, died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at the Westport Federated Church at 11 a.m. The Rev. Arthur Goyette, pastor, will officiate.

Special thanks are given to her friend, Marge Durgan, who stayed by her side in the hospital and oversaw her staff of caregivers for many years. Special thanks are also given to her devoted caregivers, Alice Borden, Michelle Borden, Theresa Borden, Myrtle Crowe and Judy Gates as well as the caregivers who came before them. Esther and her family bestow a thousand thanks for the loving care she received by all, allowing her to remain in her beloved home on Champlain Avenue.

Esther was born in Utica, N.Y. on Sep. 15, 1905, the youngest daughter of Mary (Owen) and Edward Hughes.

Her siblings were, Elsie, Lillian (who died at the age of 8), Reba and Wallace. It was Wallace who gave Esther the nickname "Red," which she loved, after her red hair. Esther kept some of that red hair until her death. Esther was the last living member of her immediate family.

She is survived by four nieces, Mrs. Cyril Coverly (Harriet), Mrs. Walter Iles Jr. (Marilyn), Mrs. James Riha (Judy) and Mrs. Walter Kelly (Mary Ellen); along with several great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews; Esther’s dear friend, Vera Cook, who also lived on Champlain Avenue, predeceased her on June 30, 1996.

Esther received a master’s degree in education from the State of New York. She was an elementary school teacher for many many years teaching second grade, fourth grade and even kindergarten in both Ticonderoga and Wappingers Falls. Esther retired from teaching in June of 1967. She dearly loved the children she taught and fondly recalled her memories of them, especially the ones who made her laugh. Esther had a great sense of humor and a gregarious nature. She loved to walk and could often be seen walking to do all her errands around Westport. To the end of her life, Esther continued to teach all of us that the simplest things in life are the greatest gifts.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Ticonderoga or Wappingers Falls Central Schools.

Dawn O’Boyle

ROUSES POINT — Dawn "Seguin" O’Boyle, died July 1, 2005, at Meadowbrook Health Care Facility in Plattsburgh. N.Y., at the age of 86.

Dawn was born April 10, 1919, the daughter of George and Esther Bruce Seguin of Rouses Point.

Her survivors are her sister, Fern Wilder; and brother, John Bruce Seguin and his wife Joan; her husband, Robert O’Boyle predeceased her in 1966.

Also surviving are two nieces, Michelle Seguin Devine and Melanie Seguin Aree, one nephew, Matthew Scott Seguin; also surviving are four great nephews; and five great nieces.

Dawn graduated from Rouses Point High School and The State University at Geneso with an bachelor’s of science in education. She also earned a master’s degree in education from SUNY Plattsburgh and a master’s degree from SUNY Plattsburgh in library science. Dawn taught first grade at Rouses Point Elementary School for 43 years.

She was past grand regent of the Catholic Daughters. A member of the Dodge Memorial Library Board and the Village of Rouses Point Historian. She was instrumental in establishing the Office of Historian from 1987 to 2002 in the municipal offices and the acquisition of the John Rose historical papers. She was chosen by the North Country Chamber of Commerce as Citizen of the Year in 1994.

She loved to read, travel and was an avid gardener. Her home was always open on holidays to family and friends and was full of joy and friendship as the July 4th Parade formed in front of her home.

Her companion for many years, Charlie Jefferson also predeceased her.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Rouses Point Fire Department Rescue Squad.

Visitation will be at the Clark Funeral Home on Lake Street, Rouses Point on Tuesday July 5, from 4 to 8 p.m. and the Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Rouses Point.

Benjamin W. Tayler, 75, of Rouses Point, died Saturday, July 2, 2005, at the Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point.

Heather L. Provost, 16, of County Route 14, St. Regis Falls, N.Y., died Thursday, June 30, 2005, in Saranac Lake, N.Y., as a result of an automobile accident.

Born in Massena, N.Y., July 22, 1988, she is the daughter of Leonard and Diane Collins Provost.

Calling hours will be Thursday, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls.

A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Free Methodist Church in St. Regis Falls, with the Rev. Robert Billings, officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
