Marjorie Elizabeth (Flanders) Wood

Plattsburgh — Marjorie Elizabeth (Flanders) Wood, formerly of Lebanon, N.H., died peacefully on Wednesday evening, June 29, 2005, at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital.

Born Aug. 19, 1916, to Blanche (Dow) and Myron W. Flanders, Marjorie (Marty) lived all but the last five years in Lebanon. She graduated as salutatorian of the Class of 1934 from Lebanon High School. The same year, she married her lifetime sweetheart, Clarence (Pert) Wood.

Marty worked for several years for Davis Jewelry Store in Lebanon before children Brian and Sarah were born, in 1944 and 1949 respectively. Eventually she returned to the workforce as a secretary and office manager at Dartmouth College in the Office of Student Counseling, from which she retired after more than 20 years.

Marty lived a vibrant life with family and friends and was engrossed in many activities in her younger years, especially her work with the Order of Eastern Star, Meals on Wheels, the United Methodist Church of Lebanon and the First Congregational Church of West Lebanon, N.H. An avid reader, Marty loved art, sewing, travel, creating doll houses and most of all, square dancing, which she and Pert continued until age 80. In later years, the couple enjoyed many winters at ‘Strawberry Squares’ in Plant City, pursuing this favorite pastime.

Moving to Plattsburgh in 2000, Marjorie and Clarence became residents of the lovely Lake Forest Senior Retirement Community.

Marjorie is predeceased by her parents, siblings and husband, Clarence.

She is survived by children (spouse): son, Brian Wood (Patty) of Buffalo, N.Y.; daughter, Sarah J. Anderson of West Chazy, N.Y.; grandchildren Dylan and Jacob Wood, Jonathan and Joshua Larkin, Lydia, Abigail, Ian and Samuel Anderson. Great-grandchildren: Luna Larkin; Kaitlin, Anissa, Aiden and Shea Wood; many beloved nieces and nephews; friends who were ‘family’; and her adored Maine Coon cat, General Beauregard.

A service of remembrance is being held on Friday, July 8, 2005, at 3 p.m. at Lake Forest Senior Retirement Community.

Arrangements are with the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Gerald "Jerry" G. Jarvis

Massena — Gerald "Jerry" G. Jarvis, 65, of 8 Amherst Road, Massena, N.Y., died Thursday, June 30, 2005, at Massena Memorial Hospital in Massena, N.Y. Mr. Jarvis was employed by Alcoa as a heater-trucker starting employment in 1966 and retiring in 2001. He was a member of 25 Year Club at Alcoa, a member of the Diamonds Sportsman Club, South Colton. Lifetime member of the NRA.

Born on Aug. 15, 1939, in Altona, N.Y., the son of Donald and Leona (Macey) Jarvis. He is survived by his wife Joan; two daughters, Mrs. Scott (Tammy) Manley of Massena, N.Y., and Trina A. Jarvis of Raleigh, N.C. A son, Kevin and wife Tracy Jarvis of Massena, N.Y. Two granddaughters, Marissa and Courtney Manley, both of Massena. Seven sisters, Marion Bacon of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Lucy LaValley of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Mrs. Robert (Exzina) Perry of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Mrs. Carlton (Pauline) Rabideau of Ellenburg, N.Y., Mrs. Everest (Nancy) Small of Massachusetts, Mrs. Donald (Ella) Lucia of Port Tobacco, Md., Mrs. Edward (Bernice) Molvihill of Chicopee, Mass. Three brothers, Donald Jarvis Jr. of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Lester Jarvis, address unknown, Massachusetts, Francis and Elaine Jarvis of Altona, N.Y. Many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Anne Mae Hoffman. Several nieces and nephews.

He married Joan Rinn on Aug. 22, 1963, at St. Edmund’s Church with the Rev. Gilbert Faucher presiding. He was an avid hunter, fisherman. He enjoyed golfing. He enjoyed gardening and helping out in farming.

Calling hours will be Sunday, July 3, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. A funeral Mass will be Monday at 11 a.m., July 4, at the Church of the Sacred Heart with the Rev. Donald J. Manfred presiding. Interment will be Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, Burlington, Vt., or American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are being handled by Phillips Memorial Home, Inc., 64 Andrews St., Massena, N.Y.

Ann S. Leagon

PLATTSBURGH — Ann S. Leagon, 68, of Underwood Avenue, died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at her home.

She was born in Rock Hill, S.C., April 4, 1937, the daughter of James C. and Irene (Mossor) McKibben.

She graduated from high school in Charlotte, N.C., and attended Mitchell Community College in Statesville, N.C.

She was married to Frank M. Leagon Jr., and through his Air Force career, enjoyed living in different places throughout the United States.

She had a lifelong interest in music, studied voice, played the organ and sang in the church choir. She had been an American Red Cross volunteer at various Air Force bases including the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base in the 1970s.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Steven G. and Clara H. Leagon of Thann, France; one daughter and son-in-law, Beth A. and James P. Carlin of Plattsburgh; five grandchildren, Charlotte and Julia Leagon and Sarah, John and Leagon Carlin.

She was predeceased by her parents; her stepparents, Nell McKibben and Gordon Swisher; and her former husband, Frank M. Leagon Jr.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, July 2, from 10 to 11 a.m. and a service will follow at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh with the Rev. John Yonkovig, pastor of St. Peter’s Church, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Peru Church of God or FitzPatrick Cancer Center.

Theodore E. Garceau, 78, of Rouses Point, died Thursday, June 30, 2005, at the Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point.

Funeral services will be private.

Arrangements are with the Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point.

Evelyn Leege, 93, of Plattsburgh, died Friday, July 1, 2005, at CVPH Medical Center.

Arrangements are incomplete with the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain.
