Peter I. Maggy
REDFORD — Peter
I. Maggy, 93, of Clinton Street, died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at his
residence.
He was born in
Moffitsville, N.Y., on July 24, 1911, the son of Elmore and Maryann (Ashambrult)
Maggy.
Peter married the
former Rose Pellerin. She died May 26, 1994.
Mr. Maggy was an
operating engineer for 50 years with the local 106 Labor Union out of
Albany. He was a communicant of Church of the Assumption. Peter was a
50-year member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include
two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Vicky Maggy of Redford and
Donald and Jill Maggy of Morrisonville; two daughters and sons-in-law,
Jean and Gilbert Myers of Chazy Lake and Millie and Dale Darrah of East
Greenbush, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren, Keith and Jill Myers, Evan and Sue
Myers, Kirk Myers, John and Ellen Donnelly, Rick and Nancy Williams,
Jody and Tasha Maggy, Joel and Shannon Maggy, Buffy and Chip Guest, Paul
Maggy, Jason and Shanna Maggy, Heather Maggy and Carey and Jeff
Steingrabber; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased
by three sons, Gary, Peter and Lawrence; one sister, Mildred Rodd; and
five brothers, Joe, William, Leo, Edward and James Maggy.
Calling hours will
be held on Friday from 3 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in
Plattsburgh. Knights of Columbus will meet at 7 p.m. at the funeral home
for a wake service.
A Mass of
Christian burial will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Assumption of
Mary Church in Redford. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
A reception will
follow at the American Legion.
Donations may be
made to the Hospice of the North Country.
Paul Franklin Crear
Johnstown, N.Y.
— Paul F. Crear of Schroon Lake, N.Y., died peacefully on May 29,
2005, in Johnstown, where he and his wife had moved recently to be near
their daughter. He was 93 years old.
Paul was born in
Kinderhook, N.Y., and lived in Albany, N.Y., as a child. Later, he moved
with his parents to Schroon Lake. During his life, he worked as a cowboy
in Wyoming and as a guide in the Adirondack wilderness. He was a well
known resident of the Adirondack region where he was a builder (Crear
Construction Co.), town councilman and a writer of wilderness and
hunting magazine articles and pamphlets. He built many fine buildings,
including log cabins in the Schroon Lake area and the A-frame building
at the former Frontier Town theme park in North Hudson, N.Y. He
particularly loved books and lent them to many people.
Paul and his wife
and children lived on an old-fashioned farm that he had built himself.
It was a favorite spot for visitors with its beautiful scenery, horses
and Jersey cows, delicious sweet corn for sale and Paul's friendly
welcome.
Paul was
predeceased by his parents, Everett and Marie Eaton Crear; his brother,
Everett Crear; his sister, Elaine Crear Bryerton; and his son, Roderick
Crear.
He is survived by
his wife, Erika Fogg Crear; his daughter, Lynn Crear Valenti and her
husband Fred of Plattsburgh, N.Y., his daughter, Erika Melanie Crear
Beck and her husband Paul of Johnstown, N.Y.; his son, Paul W. Crear of
Saranac Lake, N.Y.; his sister, Muriel Crear Weeks of Montana; his
stepson, John Ahmed of South Carolina and his stepson, Matthew Ahmed of
California.
A funeral service
will be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Schroon Lake, N.Y., on
Saturday, July 9 at 11 a.m. The burial will be immediately afterward at
the Severance Cemetery. Following the burial, everyone is welcomed back
to a gathering at the St. Andrews church hall. Food will be served and
everyone is encouraged to bring memories, photos, etc., of Paul to
share.
James A. Knapp
Plattsburgh and
Schuyler — Mr. James A. Knapp, 91, of Morrisonville, N.Y., formerly of
Schuyler, N.Y., passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2005, in Plattsburgh.
James was born in
Schuyler, N.Y., on Oct. 24, 1913, a son of Clarence and Harriett (Ladd)
Knapp. He was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of Utica
Free Academy. On Nov. 16, 1940, James married Dorothy J. Miller in
Utica, a union of 58 years until Dorothy's death in 1998.
For many years,
James was employed as shop foreman with Utica Transit Authority,
retiring in 1981. In 1982, the couple moved to Morrisonville, N.Y.,
where they enjoyed retirement. James was a member and board member of
the Schuyler Fire Department and former board member of the West
Schuyler Cemetery. He was also a member of Local 582 Amalgamated Transit
Union for over 50 years. He was of the Protestant faith.
Mr. Knapp is
survived by one daughter, Margaret Malone and her husband Thomas,
Morrisonville, N.Y.; one son, Col. James W. Knapp (U.S. Air force,
retired) and his wife Diana, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Breckenridge,
Colo.; one grandson, James C. Knapp and his wife Natalie, Boulder,
Colo.; one stepgrandson, Scott Malone and his wife Kristine, Wallkill,
N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased
by a brother, Elmer Knapp.
Mr. Knapp's
funeral will be held on Saturday, July 2, at 10 a.m. at the Heintz
Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Road, N. Utica. Interment will follow in West
Schuyler Cemetery. Calling hours for family and friends are Friday from
7 to 9 p.m.

memory.
Jamie
M. Billings, 32,
died Tuesday, June 28, 2005, as the result of a boating accident.
She was born in
Plattsburgh on Nov. 18, 1972, the daughter of Dominic and Mary
"Sue" (Rabideau) Lepone.
Calling hours will
be held at the convenience of the family. A Memorial Mass will be
celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday from St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks.

Ida
H. Gibson, 88,
formerly of Willsboro, died Sunday, June 11, 2005, at the Osceola Senior
Health Care Center in St. Cloud, Fla.
She was born in
Clinton Mills on Oct. 16, 1916, the daughter of Leonard and Fannie
Drown.
A memorial service
will be held on Thursday, July 7, at 3 p.m. from the Willsboro United
Methodist Church and interment will be on Friday, July 8, at 1 p.m. at
Sheldon Hill Cemetery in Ellenburg Depot.
