Kathleen (Kathy)
Mae Jewell
Plattsburgh —
Kathleen (Kathy) Mae Jewell, 68, died in her sleep on Sunday, June 26,
2005, at her home in Fredericksburg, Va., following a long illness. She
was born in Utica, N.Y., on Oct. 7, 1936. She was the youngest of ten
children of Alexander and Maria Pardi. She graduated from high school in
Utica, N.Y., in 1953. She also earned an Associate’s Degree from
Clinton Community College in Plattsburgh, N.Y. Mom was a veteran, having
served honorably in the U.S. Army in the mid-1950s. She was married in
1956 to John L. Jewell and together they raised four sons, Robert, John,
Terry (deceased) and Steven. Mom was a military wife and as such,
traveled throughout much of the country as duty stations changed over
the years for our father. Our Mom always did her best for us during
these years and her devotion to her children was absolute. Mom came to
the Plattsburgh area in 1970 as our dad retired here from the U.S. Air
Force. She worked for many years at the Royal Savage Inn in Plattsburgh
and was loved by those who knew her. She also worked for several years
at the Pizzeria, located near the old Plattsburgh Air Force Base. Mom
was an avid reader and took great joy in decorating her homes. She was
also a fantastic cook and we all have fond memories of Mom
"slaving" over a hot stove.
Mom is survived by
her sons, Robert F. Jewell and his wife Rebecca, their children; Austin
and his wife Kamie, John F. Jewell and her beloved granddaughter Rebecca
(Little Becky). Also, her son John L. Jewell and his wife Kathy and her
children, Emily and Matthew Blake. Her youngest son, Steven (Steve) of
Fredericksburg, Va., who lovingly and unselfishly watched over and cared
for Mom at his home for many years. Steve was (and still is) the kind of
son a mother could only hope for, giving up much of his world to make
sure Mom was as happy and comfortable as possible. Mom is also survived
by our father, John L. Jewell of Florida, who despite their long
separation remained financially true to her right up until her death,
making it possible for her to have lived a better quality of life.
Survivors also include one brother, Peter Pardi, of Willow Grove, Pa.,
along with many nieces and nephews.
There will be no
calling hours and in respecting Mom's wishes, her remains will be
cremated with interment to be determined at a future date. Cards and
letters may be mailed to Steven Jewell, 223 Sagun Drive in
Fredericksburg, VA 22407.
