Muriel Elizabeth Rooney

Saratoga Springs — Muriel Elizabeth Rooney, 92, died peacefully Sunday, June 19, 2005, after a brief illness at Saratoga Hospital. She was especially loved and will be greatly missed by her family.

Born in West Chazy, N.Y., on Dec. 12, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Cassie (Lewis) Ducharme.

She graduated from St. Peters High School in Plattsburgh, N.Y., in 1930 and went on to receive her teaching degree in 1933 from Plattsburgh Normal School. She started her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse in West Chazy. After raising her family, she resumed her teaching career in the Saranac Central School District, retiring in 1972.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, William L. Rooney Sr.; her brothers, Bernard, Everett, Harold, Herbert and Norman; and her sisters, Dorothy and Marjorie.

Mrs. Rooney is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Hartnett and her husband Michael of Clifton Park, Katie Rooney of Coxsackie and Jane Laundree and her husband Jim of Ticonderoga; her sons, Thomas Rooney, Ed.D. and his wife Delores of Walden, N.Y., and David Rooney and his wife Diane of Saratoga Springs; her stepchildren, Patricia Lawrence of Rexford, William L. Rooney Jr. and his wife Ann of Jay, N.Y., and James Rooney and his wife Theresa of Clifton Park. She was the proud grandmother of 18; and great-grandmother of 22; and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 8 to 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning at the William J, Burke & Sons/Bussing Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373 or burkefuneralhome.com). A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, 231 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Burial will follow in the family plot at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

Donations may be made in her name to the Saratoga Hospital Foundation, 211 Church Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

Velora M. Goyette

Keystone Heights, Fla. — Velora M. "Val" Goyette, 86, of Keystone Heights, Fla., died Saturday, Jan 15, 2005, at Bradford Terrace in Starke, Fla.

She was born in Shoram, Vt., May 24, 1918, the daughter of George and Marie (Ouimette) Mitchell.

Mrs. Goyette moved to Keystone Heights from Orlando in 2004. She was a homemaker but had worked during the 1970’s as head cook at the Monty Street School for the Plattsburgh City School District. She was also a long time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Goyette of Orlando, Fla., and James Goyette of Keystone Heights, Fla.; two sisters, Mildred Burke and Teresa Defayette, both of Plattsburgh; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Goyette was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Ralph (Bill) Goyette; two sisters; and four brothers.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 25, 2005, at 9:30 a.m. at St. John’s Cemetery in Keeseville with Monsignor Leeward J. Poissant, pastor, officiating.

Donations in her memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru.

Jerome R. Remillard

Peru — Jerome R. "Drake" Remillard, 82, of the Fuller Road, Peru, died Monday, June 20, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in St. Antoine Abbe, Quebec, Jan. 13, 1923, the son of Hermas and Angeline (Brault) Remillard.

Drake served in the United States Navy during World War II.

He was a partner with Remillard Dairy Farm on the Fuller Road in Peru for many years.

He loved gardening and spending time with his family.

Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Rubin and Monica Remillard of Peru; three sisters and one brother-inlaw, Noella "Jo" and Claude "Bud" Rocque of Morrisonville, Rita Bracken of Keeseville and Sister Pierrette Remillard, GNSH of Decatur, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Gaston and Romeo Remillard; and four sisters, Valdoraise Conway, Irene Bradshaw, Pauline Remillard and Eloria Cassidy.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church in Peru with Rev. Vicente Jazmines, pastor, celebrating. Burial and full military honors will follow in the parish cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart.

Helen T. Harris

TROY — Helen T. (Miller) Harris, 52, of Troy, N.Y., entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 17, 2005, at St. Mary’s Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Emmett R. and Marion L. Stewart Miller. Born in AuSable Forks, Helen moved to Troy in 1974.

She was employed for 16 years as a school bus driver for Star & Strand Bus Company and also worked for Black & White Taxi.

Helen is survived by her two children, Jessica Harris and Mary and Jeremy Ruby, both of Troy; her former husband, James Harris of Troy; and two grandchildren, Jeremy Michael Ruby Jr. and Madison Lynn Ruby. Helen is also survived by three brothers, Robert and Barbara Miller of Massachusetts, Gerald and Althea Miller of AuSable Forks and Charles and Sally Miller of Milton, Vt.; and four sisters, Patricia Skelton and companion Glen Clausen of Plattsburgh, Mary Miller of Plattsburgh, Janice and Ron LaHart of Keeseville and Susan Kusalonis and companion James Reed of Schenectady.

Burial will take place in Holy Name Cemetery in AuSable Forks, at a later date.

Blanche M. Reynolds, 90, of Scott Drive, Malone, N.Y., died Sunday, June 12, 2005, at her home, while under the loving care of her family and Hospice of the North Country, Inc.

She was born in Malone, Nov. 9, 1914, the daughter of the late George and Nida Charette Stone.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will held Tuesday, July 5, 2005, at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame Church in Malone. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Notre Dame Cemetery.

Arrangements are through the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service, Inc. of Malone.
