Published: 6/18/05Helen Margaret (Robbins) LacyWestport — Helen Margaret (Robbins) Lacy, 90, of 1258 Ledge Hill Road, died peacefully Thursday, June 16, 2005, at her home with her family at her side. She was born April 22, 1915, in Westport, the daughter of Henry J. and Lida P. (French) Robbins. After spending the winter away from home recuperating from a fall and surgery, her only desire was to return to her mountain. She was able to accomplish this goal through sheer determination and her strong will. She is survived by sons Allen J. and his wife Sue Lacy of South Glens FaIls and Larry R. Lacy and Terry Melore of Rochester; a daughter-in-law, Charlotte S. Lacey of Lewis; seven grandchildren and their families, Cindy and Mark Wrisley, Leta and Harold MacDougal, Darcey and Scott Hurlburt, all of WhaIlonsburgh, Jada and Dean Reynolds of Willsboro, Melissa and Adam Root of' South Glens Falls, Brad Lacy of Brooklyn, Anne Lacy of Orem, Utah, and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; one son, Edward W. Lacey; two sisters, Juanita H. Borden and Gladys Tryon; and two brothers, Oland (Bill) Robbins and Harold Robbins. Calling hours will be held Saturday, June 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. at W.M. Marvin's Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Fred Shaw following the calling hours at 3 p.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at New Burt Cemetery in Whallonsburgh. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Westport Emergency Squad, Westport, NY 12993. Charles William CarterGreat Barrington, Mass. — On Thursday, June 16, 2005, Charles Carter peacefully died, surrounded by his loved ones. Charles was a resident of the Great Barrington Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for several years, where he graciously dealt with his declining health. Born on Jan. 29, 1923, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., Charles was the son of Charles Carter Sr. and Anna Drolette. He graduated from St. John's High School and continued his education al the Plattsburgh Teacher’s College. Charles was a veteran of World War II, serving at the naval base in Oahu, Hawaii, from 1944-1946. He went on to join the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, an experience he was to treasure, traveling to all 50 states during this time, with six seasons spent in Alaska. Charles met and married Bertha Fisher in 1957 (died 1998). He was employed as a draftsman at the Sheridan Company in Champlain, N.Y. Eventually, he moved with his family to Lee, Mass., to join in the apostolic work of the Marian Fathers and Brothers in Stockbridge, Mass., from which he eventually retired. Survivors include his two daughters, Hannah Carter of Pleasant Hill, Calif., and Martha Hojnowski of Pownal, Vt.; two grandsons; one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Charles is also survived by his brother, G. Warren Carter of Plattsburgh; and his sister, Bertha "Bernadine" Hebenstreet of Clifton Park, N.Y. Charles shared with many his interest in literature, his love of singing and music, his kindness and gentle smile, even in times of suffering. For this and more, he will be lovingly remembered. Calling hours will be on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Walker's Funeral Home, Plattsburgh, N.Y. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at St. John's in Plattsburgh, followed by burial at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Chazy, N.Y. |
