Published: 6/16/05Leonard J. LaValleyBEEKMANTOWN Leonard J. LaValley, 68, of the Moffitt Road, died Monday, June 13, 2005, at his home surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was able to enjoy the country music he loved, which was played by family and friends, as well as his own recorded music during his peaceful passing. Mr. LaValley was born in Plattsburgh, on Sept. 5, 1936, the son of Zepher and Margaret (Nephew) LaValley. He married the former Lucy Jarvis at Holy Angels Church in Altona in 1955. He was a member of St. Mary's of the Lake Church in Cumberland Head. He was employed by Andy's Restaurant in Plattsburgh from 1954 to 1955; NBC Bakery in Plattsburgh from 1955 to 1957; and Georgia Pacific from 1957 until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of the Beekmantown Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. He was also a self-employed carpenter. Following his retirement from Georgia Pacific, he was a longtime member of the RSVP Kitchen Band, performing until a week before his death. When he wasn't playing his music he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lucy (Jarvis) LaValley; his four children, Randy LaValley and his wife Sharon of West Chazy, Thomas LaValley and his wife Leslie of Plattsburgh, James LaValley and his wife Carolyn of Plattsburgh and Judy Gorski and her fianc้ Jeffrey Brown of Chantilly, Va.; a son-in-law, George Gorski of Buffalo; two brothers, Lawrence LaValley and his wife Joan of Peru and Gerald LaValley and his companion Barbara Machurick of Beekmantown; one sister, Marion Dragoon and her husband Robert of Beekmantown; one brother-in-law, Roy Stone of Peru; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; his twin sister, Dorothy LaValley; and sister, Theresa (LaValley) Stone. Calling hours will be held today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's of the Lake Church in Cumberland Head. Interment will be held at Whispering Maples Mausoleum in Plattsburgh. Davis, 57, of Colonie, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 14, 2005. He was born in Plattsburgh, and was the son of the late Donald and Anita Davis. Jim was a Colonie resident for over 30 years. He had worked for Parson's Child and Family Center in Albany for 27 years. Jim was a motorcycle enthusiast. He enjoyed building models, reading, computers, Civil War history and he adored his grandchildren. He is survived by his former wife, Sharon Davis Schreifels; his beloved daughters, Frances Lougee and Sarah Davis of Colonie; his cherished grandchildren, Alexandra and Emily Lougee. He is the brother of Sue Webb (Roger), Michelle Johnson, Jane Davis and Joseph Davis. He is the son-in-law of Raymond Hoffman Sr. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at King's Chapel, 440 Route 9 West, Glenmont. Funeral services will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Alberta R. GonyeaPlattsburgh Alberta R. Gonyea, 92, of Peru Street, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point. She was born in Lithuania on Dec. 25, 1912, daughter of Charles and Patricia (Suckle) Staunches. Alberta was a member of St. John's Church in Plattsburgh. Alberta is survived by nieces and nephews, James Guyette, Jean Mazzotte, Patricia Blaise, Helena LaBounty, Loretta Crandall, Charlotte Francis, Clara Dupuis, Edward LeClair, Theresa LeClair; and other nieces and nephews; many great nieces and great nephews; many great-great nieces and great-great nephews. Alberta was predeceased by her husband, Wilbert Gonyea in 1975; three sisters, Bessie LeClair, Dorothy Staunches, Patricia Manley; and one brother, Jerry Staunches. Calling hours will be Friday, June 17, 2005, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 18, 2005, at 10 a.m. from St. John's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Donations in her memory may be made to St. John's Endowment Fund. Mina S. RobarePLATTSBURGH Mrs. Mina S. Robare, 88, formerly of Cornelia Street, Plattsburgh and Ellenburg Center, passed away Monday, June 13, 2005, at the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility. She was born in Forest, N.Y., on March 13, 1917, the daughter of Edward and Emma (Rollo) LaBarre. Mina was a graduate of Chateaugay High School. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. Mina had been a member of St. Edmund's Church, Ellenburg, and a member of the Altar Rosary Society of St. Edmund's. She was also a member of Court Little Rose Catholic Daughters of America. While living in Plattsburgh, she was a member of St. Peter's Church. Mina was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Emma LaBarre; her husband, Vernon Robare; a son, Herbert "Herb" Robare; a brother, Lawrence LaBarre; her sisters, Madora Peacock and Margaret Hall. She is survived by her sons, Richard Robare and his wife, Sandra, of Keeseville, Robert Robare and his wife, Sue, of Derby, Kan.; a daughter, Yvonne Hobbs and her husband, Thomas, of Nichols, N.Y.; three brothers, Frank LaBarre and his wife, Rita, of Plattsburgh, Leonard LaBarre and his wife, Marie, of Ellenburg, Donald "Sonny" LaBarre of Syracuse, N.Y.; a sister, Pearl Vanderwalker and her husband, David, of St. Regis Falls, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Lois LaBarre of Hanover, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 16 at Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, June 17 at St. Edmund's Church, Ellenburg. Interment will follow in St. Edmund's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mina's memory to the Window Fund of St. Edmund's Church, Ellenburg, N.Y. 12933. Wayne G. BarberPlattsburgh Wayne G. Barber, 59, died Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at his home under the care of Hospice of the North Country. He was born in Plattsburgh on June 14, 1946, the son of Wendell and Irma (Upton) Barber. Wayne served in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1970. Wayne owned and operated Barber's Alignment for over 30 years. He enjoyed following NASCAR racing and was a devoted New York Giants and Yankees fan. He was also an outstanding horseshoe player and bowler. Most of all, Wayne loved being with his family. Survivors include his wife, Jacquelyn Barber of Plattsburgh; four children, Tina White and her husband Hunter and their daughter Haley of Indiana, Todd Barber of Ventura, Calif., Michael Barber serving in the U.S. Air Force overseas and Angela and Jessy Jolicoeur and their son Elijah of Altona; a sister, Barbara Smart and her husband Wayne of West Chazy. Funeral services will be private for the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center or to Hospice of the North Country. Arrangements are with the O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Rosemarie A. FriedmannLAKE PLACID Rosemarie A. Friedmann, 90, of Old Military Road, Lake Placid, N.Y., passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, N.Y. She was born in Braunschweig, Germany, Dec. 1, 1914, the daughter of Max and Helene (Jacobson) Lipmann. Mrs. Friedmann was self employed as a dress designer. Her husband, Max Friedmann died earlier. She is survived by one son, Rabbi Alec Friedmann and his wife Susan of Lake Placid, N.Y.; one sister, Marion Mazur of Rio de Janeiro; two granddaughters, Dov Friedmann of New York City and Yael Friedmann of Boston. She is also survived by a niece, Irene Mazur; and a nephew, Marcelo Mazur. A graveside service for family and friends will be held Friday, June 17, at 10 a.m. at the Lake Placid Synagogue Cemetery, Old Military Road, Lake Placid, NY. Rabbi Alec Friedmann, will officiate. Donations in her memory may be made to the Lake Placid Synagogue, 2307 Saranac Ave. Lake Placid, N.Y. 12946. The Clark Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. |
