Published: 6/12/05M. Joyce Martina (McMartin)CHARLOTTE, N.C. — M. Joyce Martina (McMartin), 79, of Charlotte, N.C., lifelong resident of Plattsburgh, N.Y., died Sunday, June 5, 2005, at Aldersgate Skilled Nursing Facility following a brief illness. Mrs. Martina was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on June 17, 1925, and the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Healey) McMartin. She was married to the late Joseph J. Martina on June 12, 1946, and spent the next 56 years happily married to him. Mrs. Martina was a homemaker and enjoyed craft hobbies and particularly knitting Christmas stockings for those she loved. In later years she participated in a service program to knit hats and booties for premature babies. Mrs. Martina was always ready for the opportunity to share her talents with others. Mrs. Martina moved to Charlotte, N.C., in Sept. 2004, and enjoyed making many new friends in her new home at Aldersgate Retirement Community. Her legacy there is one of always having a positive, upbeat attitude and a readiness to give a helping hand. Mrs. Martina is survived by her three children, Deborah Martina Leggott and her husband Martin of Brattleboro, Vt., William Patrick Martina and his wife Deborah of Roswell, Ga., and Michaele Ann Conners and her husband Dana E. of Charlotte, N.C. In addition to her children Mrs. Martina is survived by her brother, Tony McMartin of Plattsburgh; and seven grandchildren, Alexandra Shepherd (Leggott), Meredith Shepherd (Leggott), Cameron Martina, MorganLee Martina, Joseph D. Conners, Taylor E. Conners, and Nathan D. Conners. Mrs. Martina is predeceased by her parents; and older brother, Robert McMartin of Alpharetta, Ga. Burial will take place in the Martina family plot in Dansville, N.Y. in the Fall 2005. There will be no calling hours. Gibson, 88, died Saturday, June 11, 2005, at the Osceola Senior Health Care Center in St. Cloud, Fla. She was born in Clinton Mills, on Oct. 16, 1916, the daughter of Leonard and Fannie Drown. She was a seamstress for many years. She is survived by a son and daughter-in law, Dale and Jill Gibson of Florida; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Eva Drown of Mooers; five grandchildren, Laura Layman, Paula Gibson and Maureen Kelbfeld all of Florida, Leonard Gibson of Schuyler Falls, Erik Bulriss of Mooers, ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Forrest A. Gibson died in 1985; three sisters, Ruby Sherwin, Edith Moore and Bertha Brooks also died earlier. There will be no calling hours. Memorial services will be held in Florida, and at the Willsboro United Methodist Church at a later date. Interment will be in Sheldon Hill cemetery in Ellenburg Depot. Memorial donations may be made to the Willsboro Rescue Squad or the Willsboro United Methodist Church. The E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot is in charge of arrangements. Flora M. Lamberton TrombleyMorrisonville — Flora M. Lamberton Trombley, 82, formerly of the Rand Hill Road, Morrisonville, died Thursday, June 9, 2005, at the Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility in Plattsburgh, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Mooers Forks, May 15, 1923, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Barcomb) LaValley. She worked at the slipper factory in Mooers and Cooperative Extension. She sold Avon and was a teachers aid at Mooers Central School for several years. She also owned and operated Flo’s Yellow Rose Restaurant in Plattsburgh. Flo enjoyed crafts, bingo, flowers, baking, senior trips, traveling with family, babysitting her grandchildren and was an avid sportsfan, especially the Boston Red Sox. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by the many lives she has touched. Survivors include one daughter, Faith Lamberton of Plattsburgh; six sons, Howard Jr. and Doris Lamberton of Mooers Forks, Gary and Donna Lamberton of Rochester, Larry Lamberton of Massena, Terry Lamberton of Mooers, Ricky Lamberton of Plattsburgh and Barry Lamberton of Plattsburgh; and daughter-in-law, Betty Lamberton of Massena; one caring and devoted sister, Barbara Guay and brother-in-law, Andy Guay of Rouses Point; one sister-in-law, Nellie Harris of Plattsburgh; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Howard Lamberton Sr., June 4, 1968; two brothers, Gerald and Oliver LaValley; and a baby sister. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville with Rev. William Reamer, CVPH chaplain, celebrating. Entombment will follow at the Whispering Maples Memorial Mausoleum in Plattsburgh. Donations in her memory may be made to the Morrisonville Rescue Squad or Hospice of the North Country. Loretta D. McCarthyCHAMPLAIN — Loretta D. McCarthy, 70, of Champlain, died Saturday, June 11, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. Mrs. McCarthy was born on Jan. 4, 1935, in Champlain, the daughter of William and Corine (Fish) Coache. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1952 and was employed as a typist at A.N. Derringer in Champlain. She enjoyed spending time with her sons, their families and other family members and friends. She also enjoyed crocheting and reading. She was a member of Catholic Daughters Court Lily of the Mohawk in Champlain and the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 767 in Champlain. Survivors include four sons, Michael G. McCarthy his wife Karen K. and their two sons, Ryan G. and Shane M. of Peru, James R. McCarthy of Plattsburgh formerly of Chazy and former wife Roberta L. of Chazy and their sons, Colin J., Kyle A., and Connor W. McCarthy, John P. McCarthy and his wife Nancy and their two sons, Adrian Fenandez and Zachary J. McCarthy of Fayetteville, Ark., and Martin W. McCarthy and his wife Lynn B. and their daughter, Aislinn E. and son, Eithne R. McCarthy of Champlain; one sister, Rose F. Favreau of Champlain; one nephew, William A. Favreau of Plattsburgh; one niece, Julie A. Favreau of Plattsburgh; and several cousins. Mrs. McCarthy was predeceased by her parents; one son, Albert L. McCarthy; one granddaughter, Shannon L. McCarthy and a brother-in-law Arsen Favreau. Calling hours will be Sunday, June 12, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the M.B. Clark Funeral Home, 196 Elm Street, Champlain. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, June 13, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Champlain. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery on Prospect Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Champlain Fire Department, Champlain EMS, or a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are with the M.B. Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. Joan T. Bouissey, 77, of Cold Spring Road, North Bangor, N.Y., passed away Friday, June 10, 2005, at the Alice Hyde Nursing Home, Malone, where she had been a resident since March. Born in Malone, on June 15, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Beatrice Richards Hammill. Calling hours will be Thursday, June 16, 2005, from 9 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 10 a.m. in the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. Burial will be in Coal Hill Cemetery in Westville. William F. Gonyea Jr., 57, of Sunset Avenue, Tupper Lake, died Thursday, June 9, 2005, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer. Born on July 27, 1947 in Tupper Lake, he was the son of William Francis and Beulah (Boudreau) Gonyea. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 12 at the Richer Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 13 at St. Alphonsus Church in Tupper Lake. Burial will follow with military honors at St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Tupper Lake. |
