Published: 6/11/05Clarence E. SmithAUSABLE FORKS — Clarence E. Smith, 81, died Thursday, June 9, 2005, at Clinton County Nursing Home in Plattsburgh, N.Y. , after a lengthy illness with Parkinson’s disease. He was born April 1, 1924, in AuSable Forks, the son of William and Ethel Reed Smith. Clarence was married to his wife, Evelyn Smith, for 60 years. He was a member of AuSable Forks United Methodist Church and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Keeseville. He enjoyed playing golf and was in the U.S. Army in World War II where he was a prisoner of war for eight months in Germany. He was retired from N.Y.S. Highway Department of Keeseville. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Stacy and Pam Smith of Florida and Stanley and Carla Smith of Denver, Colo.; he has five granddaughters, Melissa and Michelle Smith, Valerie Malloy, ShaIece and Tayler Smith; and one great-granddaughter, Loren Malloy; five brothers and one sister, Lloyd and Helen Smith, Raymond and Marion Smith, George and Sylvia Smith, all of AuSable Forks, James and Carolyn Smith of West Chazy and Vince Smith of AuSable Forks; and a sister and brother-in-law, Elly and Alan Dickerson; a sister-in-law, Frances Smith of AuSable Forks; and a brother-in-law, Bill Gilliam. He was predeceased by his parents, William H. and Ethel Reed Smith; and two brothers, Horatio and William Smith. Graveside services will be held Monday, June 13, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in AuSable Forks. Memorials may be made to AuSable Forks United Methodist Church or the Clinton County Nursing Home in Plattsburgh, N.Y. Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Flora M. Lamberton TrombleyMorrisonville — Flora M. Lamberton Trombley, 82, formerly of the Rand Hill Road, Morrisonville, died Thursday, June 9, 2005, at the Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility in Plattsburgh, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Mooers Forks, May 15, 1923, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Barcomb) LaValley. She worked at the slipper factory in Mooers and Cooperative Extension. She sold Avon and was a teachers aid at Mooers Central School for several years. She also owned and operated Flo's Yellow Rose Restaurant in Plattsburgh. Flo enjoyed crafts, bingo, flowers, baking, senior trips, traveling with family, baby-sitting her grandchildren and was an avid sports fan, especially of the Boston Red Sox. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by the many lives she has touched. Survivors include six sons and one daughter, Howard Jr. and Doris Lamberton of Mooers Forks, Gary and Donna Lamberton of Rochester, Larry Lamberton of Massena, Terry Lamberton of Mooers, Ricky Lamberton of Plattsburgh and Barry Lamberton of Plattsburgh; and daughters-in-law, Betty Lamberton of Massena; Faith Lamberton of Plattsburgh and her companion George Legnard of Rouses Point; one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Andy Guay of Rouses Point; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Howard Lamberton Sr., June 4, 1968; two brothers, Gerald and Oliver LaValley; and a baby sister. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville with the Rev. William Reamer, CVPH chaplain, celebrating. Entombment will follow at the Whispering Maples Memorial Mausoleum in Plattsburgh. Donations in her memory may be made to the Morrisonville Rescue Squad or Hospice of the North Country. David A. BertrandMooers Forks — David A. Bertrand, 48, of the Blackman Corners Road, Mooers Forks, died Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at the Glens Falls Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was born in Montreal, Quebec, Dec. 6, 1956, the son of John and Della (Kirouac) Bertrand. David was a self-employed contractor for many years in Mooers Forks and was a correction officer for 18 years. He enjoyed scuba diving, woodworking and riding his motorcycle. Survivors include two daughters, Michelle Bertrand of Chestnut Hill, Mass., and Jessica Bertrand of Rouses Point; his parents, John and Della (Kirouac) Bertrand of Mooers Forks; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, John and Julie Bertrand of Orange City, Fla., and Stephen and Crystal Bertrand of Ellenburg; three sisters, Diane and Ronald Napper of Montreal, Quebec, Debra and David Babbie of Mooers Forks and Sharron and Ronald Dupee of Mooers Forks; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Home in Mooers. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks with Rev. Gerald Cerank, pastor, celebrating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Mary A. WodjenskiPlattsburgh — Mary A. Wodjenski, 98, of Oak Street, Plattsburgh, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2005, at the home of her daughter in Queensbury. She was born in Plattsburgh on Dec. 24, 1906, daughter of the late Daniel and Elizabeth (Quinn) Ryan. Mary was a lifelong member of St. John's Church in Plattsburgh, a member of St. John's Altar and Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters for 61 years. Mary was very active as an Eucharistic Minister and Lector. Mary is survived by two daughters, Joan Jarvis and her husband John of Plattsburgh and Kathleen Miller of Queensbury; two sons, Joseph Wodjenski of Florida and Thomas Wodjenski and his wife Mildred of Fairhope, Ala.; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Alex; three sisters; and one brother. Calling hours will be Sunday, June 12, 2005, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Members of the St. John's Altar and Rosary Society will meet at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 13, 2005, at 10 a.m. from St. John's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Donations in Mary's memory may be made to St. John's Endowment Fund or Masses. Howard CoonsCHATEAUGAY — Howard Coons, 64, of the Number 5 Road, Chateaugay, died Friday, June 10, 2005, at CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh, N.Y. Born in Sharon, Conn., on Nov. 23, 1940, he was the son of Edward and Ruth (Duryea) Coons. He was married to Joan Kilmer on Nov. 25, 1961, in Pawling, N.Y. She predeceased him on August 25, 1995. Mr. Coons is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Howard and Wendy Coons Jr. of Ellenburg Depot, N.Y., Brian and Trina Coons of Norfolk, Va., Jeffrey and Erin Coons of Broad Brook, Conn., Todd Coons of Chateaugay, N.Y.; five grandchildren; a brother, Edward Coons and his companion Judy Barcomb of Malone, N.Y.; a sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and Gordon Rundall of Bangor, N.Y. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Arnold Coons in 1993. Mr. Coons served honorably in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed by Bilow's Potato Farm as operation manager for many years. He was an avid gun collector and loved bird watching and camping. Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Sunday, June 12, from 7 to 9 p.m. only. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday June 13, in Chateaugay Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Gardner, officiating. Burial will take place at Brainardsville Cemetery, Brainardsville. Donations in his memory may be made to the Burke Adult Center. Bernard A. Brown, 91, formerly of Academy Street, Saranac Lake, died Thursday, June 9, 2005, at Mercy Health Care Center in Tupper Lake. Born in Saranac Lake, N.Y. on June 23, 1913, he was the son of Albert and Jeanette (LaBounty) Brown. Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Bible vigil service will take place at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Bernard's Church, with the Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake. |
