Published: 6/9/05John W. CrossTiconderoga — John W. Cross, 79, of 171 Lake George Ave., Ticonderoga, N.Y., died Sunday, June 5, 2005, at the Moses Ludington Hospital. He was born April 2, 1926, in Moriah, N.Y., the son of Raymond and Emma (Sheldon) Cross. John worked for Cornwright Sawmill in Lewis, N.Y., for most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed camping. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Hathaway) Cross; three daughters, Bonnie Sprinkle of Crown Point, N.Y., Dale Hubbard of Martville, N.Y., and Joanne Labene of Pine Plains, N.Y.; two sons, David Cross of Miami, Fla., and Michael Cross of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Joyce Fiet of Fort Myers, Fla., and Georgianna Bisplinghoff of Fort Myers, Fla.; three brothers, Tom Cross of Kendallville, Ind., David Cross of Howe, Ind., and Raymond Cross of Lewis, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Charlotte Crowe of Crown Point, N.Y.; two great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kortney Scheurer; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; and one sister, Jean Clark. Calling hours will be held Thursday, June 9 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Marvin's Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday. Memorial donations may be made to Ticonderoga EMS or Schroon Lake Area Veterans Van. Beatrice A. MonettePlattsburgh — Beatrice A. Monette, 82, of Plattsburgh, died Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Plattsburgh on Feb. 24, 1923, the daughter of Stephen and Ellen (Lafountain) Burleigh. She was employed at Pal Blade for several years and later as a cashier at the Plattsburgh Air Force Base commissary. She was a member of St. Peter's Church. She enjoyed reading, puzzles and gardening. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Norman Robert Jr. and Carla Monette of Plattsburgh; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Shirley and Harvey Hill of Albuquerque, N.M., Carol and Elkin Uribe of Bristol, Conn., Linda and James Galayda of Southington, Conn., and Bonnie Monette of Plattsburgh; her sisters, Ouida Smart of Morrisonville and Wanda Reed of West Chazy; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday from St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. Interment will follow at Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Plattsburgh. Donald F. CromiePERU — Donald Finney Cromie, 86, of Route 22B, Peru died Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Peru, July 2, 1918, the son of Gordon and Ruth (Finney) Cromie. Donald graduated from Peru High School Class of 1936 and from Plattsburgh Business School. He married Edith Brand on Jan. 16, 1943, at her home with the Rev. Robert Thomas, pastor of the Peru Community Church officiating. They enjoyed 62 years of life together. He owned and operated the family dairy farm until 1961, at which time he joined his sister, Barbara Thew in managing the Ross E. Clark Insurance Agency for the next 22 years. He retired in 1982. Donald served on the Peru Board of Education for six years and also held positions in the Peru Community Church of which he was a member for 65 years. He was a member of AuSable River Lodge 149 Free and Accepted Masons and in 1999 he received a certificate for 60 years of membership and at that time he was announced as the oldest living member of the lodge. In his young life his greatest pastime was bowling and in later years he took up golfing and square dancing. The highlight of his square dancing was attending a National Convention in Baltimore, Md. Throughout his life he enjoyed a good game of pinochle. Survivors include his wife, Edith (Brand) Cromie of Peru; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn and Alan Brault of Peru and Gail and Larry Gonyo of Queensbury; five grandchildren and spouses, Scott and Theresa Brault of Peru, Steven and Rebecca Brault of Morrisonville, Brian Gonyo of Clifton Park, Carol Sue Gonyo of Clifton Park and Jay Gonyo of Latham; two great-grandsons, Austin and Nathan Brault of Peru; the daughter of his sister, Patti Hamilton; and several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Gordon Cromie in 1939 and his mother, Ruth Finney Cromie Clark in 1992; and his sister, Barbara Thew in 1990. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A Masonic service will be held at 1:30 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. at the Peru Community Church, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Svenson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the Peru Cemetery Inc. Donations in his memory may be made to the Peru Community Church or the AuSable River Lodge 149 Free and Accepted Masons. Marie Imogene Baker, 84, of Ticonderoga, died Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at the Moses-Ludington Hospital of Ticonderoga. She was born June 7, 1921, in Toronto, Canada. Calling hours will be Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Robert Capan will officiate. Burial will follow at the family plot of the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Ticonderoga. |
