Published: 5/16/05Sean Patrick McCulloughPERU — Sean Patrick McCullough, loving son of Mark and Deena Giltz McCullough, died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 14, 2005. He was 17 years young. Sean was the beloved older brother of Collin Alexander and Megan Kathryn McCullough. He was the adored grandson of Rod and Dodie Giltz of Valcour. He was the nephew of Cynthia Giltz DeLauder and her husband, Dan, of Spokane, Wash., and their children, Nick, Elizabeth and Ian; Randall Giltz and his wife, Julia, of Plattsburgh and their children: Connor, Declan and Timothy; Michael McCullough and his wife, Jane, of Plymouth Meeting, Pa., and their children: Kelly, Timothy and Shannon; and cousin of David Potts and his wife, Carol, of Manassas, Va., and their son, Will; his godparents, Bruce and Susan Pellerin; and his many, many classmates and friends who were very special to him. Sean was a senior at Plattsburgh High School and had been accepted into the Honors Program in the Carroll School of Management at Boston College, where he planned to study finance. He was president of the Student Association at PHS, a position that he sought for the opportunity to advocate for the entire student body. He was also a class officer, member of the National Honor Society and Drama Club, where he noted in a recent play program that he planned on "retiring before the age of 30 and buying an orchard, and naming an apple after himself." As a junior he was a member of the nonalcohol After Prom Party Committee, an endeavor he was so passionate about that he encouraged other schools in the area to follow PHS’s lead. He was the student representative for the past four years on the School Improvement Planning Committee and represented PHS the past two years at the NYS Council on Leadership and Student Activities Leadership Conference. A promising athlete, Sean participated in varsity-level sports, including cross country, soccer, and indoor and outdoor track and field. He was most proud of his senior accomplishments, including being chosen captain of the track team and participating on the winning 4x400 relay team and perfecting his hurdling skills, being chosen by his indoor track teammates as a recipient of the Black Letter Award and qualifying for States the past two years. He was also a member of the varsity soccer team. Sean was a Scholar Athlete each season and was proud to be in the top 5 percent of his class academically. He attained a Commended Student recognition by the PSAT, NMQST. He worked for ORDA this past winter as a ski instructor at Whiteface Mountain and was a lifeguard in the summer. He was well traveled, and two of his favorite ski vacation spots were Mont Blanc, Canada, and Heavenly, South Lake Tahoe. Sean will be remembered for his sensitive and caring nature. He was mature beyond his years and honest to a fault. He was a good friend to everyone and rarely if ever said "no" when asked to do anything. He was a person of his own convictions and had a fiercely independent nature. He had a passion for skiing, running, weight lifting, jet skiing and golfing. Sean was a wonderful big brother and carefully mentored his siblings on the ways of the world. Most importantly, his friends were his inspiration and joy, and he loved each and every one deeply. A kind-spirited person, he will be deeply missed by his family and friends. The family will be welcoming guests from 3 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2005, at the Brown Funeral Home, Broad Street, Plattsburgh. The cafeteria at Stafford Middle School will also be open.
