Ruth Cook

April 16, 1908 - Dec. 24, 2004

Plattsburgh — On Dec. 24, 2004, Mrs. Ruth Cook departed from this life to that heavenly reward which inevitably follows a good and productive life.

Mrs. Cook was born on April 16, 1908, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., the daughter of William J. and Ethel E. Bonville.

Mrs. Cook is survived by her daughter, Ethel E. Cook Moore; son-in law, Frederick S. Moore; grandchildren, Stephan P. Moore, Beth A. Moore; and great-grandchildren, Elisabeth A. Moore and Stephan M. Moore.

Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her parents; and husband Patrick J. Cook.

At age 18, Mrs. Cook began her life long commitment to a teaching career that began in the South Plattsburgh two-room school house that still stands today on Route 22 and Goodspeed Road. Mrs. Cook retired from teaching in 1973 while teaching at Notre Dame School in Plattsburgh.

Of a sincere and cheerful disposition, Mrs. Cook was held in high esteem by all who knew her. Her daughter cannot help but recall many of the happy hours spent in the inviting atmosphere of Mrs. Cook's home where an extra plate or extra bed always awaited the unexpected visitor. All were welcome who chanced to enter the Cook home and many were the bountiful social gatherings around the dinner table. Sometimes, in this fast moving day, we are prone to pause for a moment of thought and perhaps long just a little for those days of the past when life moved at a slower pace, but nevertheless, moved. Mrs. Cook lived in the generation, when, to be a good neighbor was a commandment lived up to. When sickness or disaster threatened a relative, she was always willing to lend a hand. She was of a sincere religious nature and a faithful communicant of the Catholic church.

In her declining years she spent her winters with her daughter and son-in-law in Farmington, N.M. Finally in 1999, when the ravishes of Alzheimer diminished her mental state to a level where she could no longer function on her own, she moved to Farmington, N.M., to be with her family and for the daily care she needed.

The family will receive guests Thursday, May 12th, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, May 13th, at 11 a.m. from St. Augustine's Church in Peru. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
