Mary E. (Holland) Slade

Fort Edward, N.Y. — Mary E. Slade, 90, died May 6, 2005, at Fort Hudson Nursing Home. Mrs. Slade was born in the Town of Beekmantown on Aug. 17, 1914, the daughter of Henry and Caroline (Mousseau) Holland.

She married Joseph W. "Bill" Slade on Aug. 17, 1937, at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville, N.Y. Mr. Slade predeceased her in 1965.

During her husband's 35-year career with AT&T, they lived in West Chazy, Plattsburgh, West Plattsburgh and Elizabethtown. After his death she returned to West Plattsburgh, residing there until 2000, when she moved to Adirondack Manor Adult Home in Queensbury, N.Y., due to declining health. She became a resident of Fort Hudson Nursing Home in December 2004.

Mrs. Slade was a homemaker when her children were young, volunteering for several organizations including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Advisor for Catholic Youth Council (CYC) of St. Elizabeth’s Church in Elizabethtown and serving as treasurer of Cobble Hill Golf Association in Elizabethtown for eight years. Her employment included Joint Council for Economic Opportunity for the Town of Plattsburgh, Manager of Clinton Dining Hall at Plattsburgh State and Clinton County Head Start, retiring 1990.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Slade was predeceased by her brothers, Jack, William, Raymond, Merritt, Robert and Harold; her granddaughter, Katie Slade; and her companion of several years, William Vanderover.

Survivors include her son John and his wife Susan of Albany; her daughter Ann of Queensbury; grandchildren Christopher, Bethany, Zachary and Caroline of Albany; and her sister-in-law, Elsie Holland of Middletown, N.Y. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be Monday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court St., in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to the Building Fund of St. Alexander's Church, Morrisonville, NY 12901.

The Family would like to thank Beth Bruno, Ann Marie Donahue, Mark Holmes and the entire staff of "G" wing at Fort Hudson Nursing Home for the excellent care Mary received during her residency.

Ellsworth Fields

Port Henry, N.Y. — Mr. Ellsworth Fields, 70, of 14 Meacham St., a Mountain Lake Services residence, Port Henry, N.Y., passed away May 5, 2005, during the night at his home.

He was born Ellsworth Kemp Leach to Esther Elizabeth Bancroft in Benson, Vt., on Aug. 5, 1934. His father was Lester Leach. He is survived by his stepbrother, Sylva Fields of Whitehall, N.Y.

Mr. Fields moved to Rome, N.Y., at 6 years of age. He moved to Port Henry to reside with Essex County ARC in 1976. He worked for a number of years at Essex Industries performing various kinds of assembly and manufacturing jobs. Mr. Fields retired in 2001 and spent his leisure time with his friends at the Helen F. MacDonald Center in Port Henry, N.Y.

Mr. Fields was very proud of the fact that he had quit smoking over a year ago. He was also proud of his stepbrother, with whom he was recently reunited and he enjoyed talking with others about his new found family. He was a fan of professional wrestling and attended WWF events when he could. His greatest passion was watching old movies. He enjoyed vacations with his housemates especially near the Atlantic Ocean and the St. Lawrence Seaway.

Mr. Fields was a great jokester, was very kind and always had a welcoming word and smile. He seemed to have the time to sit and talk and have a cup of coffee with friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Calling hours will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, May 9th, at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry, N.Y. There will be a service led by Rev. Richard Hoff of the Westport Bible Church at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home, with burial at the Moriah Union Cemetery in Moriah, N.Y. There will be a reception immediately following at Mr. Fields’ home, 14 Meacham St., Port Henry, N.Y.

Donations in memory of Mr. Ellsworth Fields may be made to Mountain Lake Services, 10 St. Patrick’s Place, Port Henry, NY.

DEATH NOTICES

Lulu M. Hart, 79, formerly of Keeseville, died Friday, May 6, 2005, at North Arundel Hospital in Glen Burnie, Md. She was born in AuSable Forks on May 27, 1925, the daughter of Thomas and Jennie (Joy) Ryan.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 25th, at 2 p.m. from Holy Name Cemetery in AuSable Forks. A full obituary will follow at a later date. The O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh is in charge of arrangements.

Harold I. Thompson, 79, of the Union Road, Peru, died Friday, May 6, 2005, at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of the North Country. He was born in Syracuse, April 16, 1926, the son of Lyle and Essie (Davis) Thompson.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru.

St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Chazy — Memorial Masses and graveside services will be held on Monday, May 9th, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Chazy, for the following:

Hemingway — Susan J. Hemingway, 53, of the Eskar Road in West Chazy, who died April 11, 2005, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington, Vt.

Sheridan — Eva A. Sheridan, 97, of Flynn Avenue in Plattsburgh, who died April 14, 2005, at the Clinton County Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.

Provost — Eugene F. Provost Sr., 65 , of the Recore Road in West Chazy, who died Dec. 27, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. Arrangements are with the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

MEMORIAL SERVICES

Rumph — A reception and reflection of the life of Mr. Robert R. "Bob" Rumph, 66, formerly of the Patent Road, Peru, and most recently of Crossville, Tenn., who died Thursday, March 17, 2005, will be held at Meron's on Beekman Street on Wednesday, May 11th, from 5 to 7 p.m. Arrangements are by the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh.

St. Joseph’s Church, West Chazy Memorial Masses will be held on Monday, May 9th, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, West Chazy, for the following: 

Miller — Gloria J. Miller, 53, of Honey Drive, Plattsburgh, who died Jan. 7, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Trombly — Hersey T. Trombly, 90, of Baker Road in West Chazy, who died Jan. 1, 2005, at his residence. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

The R.W. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
