Agnes McComb

PLATTSBURGH — Agnes McComb, 98, of Champlain Drive, Plattsburgh, passed away Monday, May 2, 2005, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Hamilton, Scotland, on June 14, 1906, the daughter of Patrick Lyons and Brigid (Gorman) Lyons.

Agnes married Henry McComb in 1933. Henry passed away in 1963.

She was a member of St. John's Church in Plattsburgh.

Agnes is survived by one son, Henry McComb of Plattsburgh; one daughter, Agnes Pearl of Plattsburgh; six grandchildren, Sharon, Henry, Carol, Elizabeth, Thomas and Richard. She is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 6, 2005, at 10 a.m. from St. John's Church in Plattsburgh. A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 7, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Cemetery, Pinelawn, Long Island.

Donations in her memory may be made to St. John's Church in Plattsburgh.

Arrangements are with the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Ethel C. Shepard

PLATTSBURGH — Mrs. Ethel C. Shepard, 80, formerly of Lakeview Towers and most recently Evergreen Valley Nursing Home, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2005, at CVPH Medical Center with her family at her side.

She was born in Burlington, Vt., on Jan. 8, 1925, the daughter of Eugene Edward and Elizabeth (Gifford) Champagne.

Ethel enjoyed playing bingo and she was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church.

She was predeceased by her parents, Eugene and Elizabeth Champagne; her husband, Raymond Shepard; her daughters, Joan Shepard and Alice Higgins; a granddaughter, Darby Shepard; and several brothers and sisters.

Ethel is survived by three sons, Raymond Shepard and his wife Linda of Browns Mills, N.J., Clarence "Buddy" Shepard and his wife Terry of Plattsburgh and John Shepard and his wife Cindy of Plattsburgh; a brother, Gene Champagne of Virginia; her grandchildren, Joanie, Carrie, Michael, Sherry, Debbie, Billy, Jason, Jay and Travis; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 8:30 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Floyd "Jerry" Bleaux, pastor of Our Lady of Victory Church, officiating. Interment will be private at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Friends wishing may make donations to her family.

Robert J. Simpson Sr.

MINEVILLE, NY — Robert J. Simpson Sr., passed away May 2, 2005, at home with his family at his side after a long battle with cancer.

He was born Dec. 3, 1943, in Mineville, N.Y., the son of the late Raymond and Mary (Ryan) Simpson.

He served in the Army Reserves and worked at A.P. Reale for 30 years, starting out as a laborer, advancing to foreman and retiring as an OSHA safety inspector, winning the D.O.T. award for safety. He later served the town of Moriah as highway superintendent for two terms.

On Dec. 12, 1984, Robert married Ruth Maria Perry, having three children, Robert (Rob) Jr., Sherlene and Scotty Joe.

Survivors include his wife, Ruthie; two sons, Rob and Bridget of Texas and Scott and Tammy of Tennessee; and Sharlene and fiancé Clint Barrows of Crown Point; eight grandchildren, Quinn and Patrick Simpson, C.J., Jared and Brooks Feith and Nathaniel, Alec and Marissa Simpson; three brothers, George (Bud) and Georgia of Scotia, Richard and Mary Ellen of Schroon Lake and Steve and Sally of Mineville; and three sisters, RaeMarie and Dick Gero of Schroon Lake, Caroline and Larry Stephens of Florida, and Donna and George Savage of Schenectady; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wanda and Ray Weston of Phelps, Betty and the late Eddie Genier of Witherbee, Alberta (Bert) and Tracey Sprague of Mineville, Carlene and Mike Wojewodzic of Mineville, Rae and Mike Genier of Mineville, Donna and Donnie Sherman of Moriah, Carl (Chip) and Barb Perry of Moriah, Sharlene and the late Kim Joiner of Witherbee, Jim and the late Sherlene Boyea of Moriah, Rick and JoAnn Perry of Witherbee, Darlene Perry and her companion Dan Vanderhoof of Port Henry, Dorene Laware and her companion Kevin Sharrow of Witherbee and Dennis Perry and his companion Erin Smith of Mineville; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was also a skilled wood-worker.

His last project, built with his grandson, was a lit cross symbolizing his generosity to the community at Christmas time, which was re-lit by his family as a tribute to him hours after his passing.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, May 4, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 5 at the Moriah Methodist Church at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Autism Society of America (1-888-244-8875).

Adrienne Laurette (Delorme) Bergeron

Auburn, MAINE — Adrienne Laurette (Delorme) Bergeron died Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at the Marguerite d’Youville Pavillion of colon cancer.

She was born Jan. 3, 1919, in Lewiston, the daughter of Napoleon and Florida (Lapointe) Delorme.

On April 30, 1938, she married Joseph Noel Bergeron at St. Mary’s Church in Lewiston.

They built a home on Prospect Hill in Auburn and moved in January 1940. Adrienne lived there nearly 65 years, until her illness in June 2004.

Prior to her marriage, she worked at the Hill Mill. She and Joe raised six children and she baby-sat many others through the years. In 1966 she started work as a nurse’ s aide at St. Mary’s Hospital, later at Bolster Heights and Intown Manor, retiring in 1982.

She took great pride in her home, was a very good cook and enjoyed canning, sewing and needlework, making beautiful tablecloths and pictures for her children and grandchildren. She made an heirloom christening dress from her wedding gown in which her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were baptized. She had a great devotion to St. Anthony and prayed the rosary daily. And, she was very proud of obtaining her driver’s license at age 60!

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, killed in an industrial accident at Pioneer Plastics in 1978; her daughter, Nita, killed in 1951 at 12 years old by a drunken driver near her home; daughter, Constance Pare; grandson, Thomas Whittier; and sister, Carmen Bilodeau.

Adrienne was a communicant at St. Louis Church, a member of Les Dames de Ste. Anne, Les Marchandes de Bonheur and the New Auburn Senior Citizens Club.

She is survived by her children, Georgette Whittier of Poland, Jeanne Collings of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Dr. Roger Bergeron and companion Diane Douglas of Auburn, and Doris and her husband Steve Johnson of Scarborough; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Anthony Pare and wife T.J., their children, Matthew, Courtney and Bridget of Scituate, Maine, James Pare of Auburn, Christine (Pare) Mumau and husband Mark, their children, Zachary and Rachelle of Hartford, Steven Whittier and wife Penny of Durham; John Collings and wife Michelle and their son, Brandon of Peru, N.Y.; Peter Collings and his daughter Noelle of Tempe, Ariz., Matthew Collings of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Natalie Johnson of Scarborough. She is also survived by her sister, Mrs. Lucien (Yvette) Blais; brother, Fernand Delorme and wife Irene; a sister-in-law Cecile Bergeron; former sons-in-law, Jacob Whittier, J. Thomas Pare and Daniel Collings; cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. She will be greatly missed.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fortin Funeral Home in Auburn. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Louis Church, Auburn .

Loretta E. Romeo, 87, of Park Avenue, Plattsburgh, died Monday, May 2, 2005, at her home.

She was born in Plattsburgh on Dec. 21, 1917, the daughter of Aschell and Rose (Perry) Bruso.

Her family will receive guests on Friday, May 6, 2005, from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Church. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.

Charles L. Orem, 72, of Route 22, South Plattsburgh, died Monday at CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Delight, Md., on April 25, 1933, the son of Stanley and Evelyn (Zimmerman) Orem.

Calling hours and funeral arrangements were incomplete, as of Tuesday evening, at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home.
