Published: 4/29/05William N. Vogt Jr.Plattsburgh — Mr. William N. Vogt Jr., 77, of Cumberland Head, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh, Dec. 8, 1927, son of William N. Vogt Sr. and Irene (Phifer) Vogt. Bill graduated from Plattsburgh High School and then he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served two years in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After his discharge, he went to work for the New York Telephone Company, retiring after 37 years. He served 45 years with Rescue Hose 5, four years as chief where he was instrumental in starting the first air cascade system north of Albany. Bill served as shop steward and president of Local 1129CWA, Commander of American Legion Post 20 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 125. Bill is survived by his wife, Patricia O'Hearn Rock Vogt of Plattsburgh; five sons, Christopher Vogt and Meg Jastran of Freeville, George Vogt of Plattsburgh, Nelson Vogt and his wife Nancy of Rochester, Thomas Vogt of Spencer, Mass., and John Vogt and Ron LaMonda of Burlington, Vt.; two daughters, Kathy Vogt of Rochester and Mary Trombley and her husband Kenneth of West Chazy; four stepchildren, Cheryl Donah and her husband Charles of Plattsburgh, Rody Rock of Plattsburgh, Jodi Rock and her husband Clayton of Peru and Christopher Rock of Fort Myers, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Bill is predeceased by his parents, Bill and Irene; brother, George; sister Margaret; infant daughter, Adele; nephews Terry Sweet, William S. Vogt; wife Adele; and grandson Michael Vogt. Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Members of the American Legion Post 20 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 125 will meet Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. for services. A funeral service will be celebrated Saturday April 30th, at 11 a.m. from Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Bill wrote, "Don't mourn for me. I have had a very full and fulfilling life, the love of two wonderful wives and all my 11 children; instead go up to Post 20 and have a beer to remember me." Donations in Bill's memory may be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center at CVPH Medical Center. Helen I. MillerPLATTSBURGH — Helen I. Miller, 97, formerly of Hillcrest Avenue and the Vilas Home, died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility. She was born in Jay, N.Y., on Aug. 29, 1907, the daughter of Dr. John and Corinth (Bissell) Smith. Helen married Clyde Miller, who died in 1981. Helen attended AuSable Forks High School, Adirondack Commercial School, Malone, Empire State College and Plattsburgh State, graduating with an associate’s degree. Helen retired Nov. 1, 1976, as principal stenographer from Clinton Correctional Facility after nearly 30 years of employment there, where her husband was a sergeant. She has continued to work as a volunteer for RSVP, winning the coveted Welford Butler award in 1990. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dannemora, the Daughters of the American Revolution-past Regent, Council on the Arts, CVPH Auxiliary, Senior Citizens Council, RSVP, Plattsburgh Garden Club and the Kent Delord Museum Association. Helen is survived by three daughters, Nancy Wheeler of Jamaica Plain, Mass., Linda and Jim Whitlock of Plattsburgh and Christine and Larry Davidson of Fredericksburg, Va.; and one daughter-in-law, Kathy Miller of Glens Falls, N.Y. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Andrew, Christopher and Timothy Pond, Michael and Kevin Miller and Nicholas Davidson; as well as six great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews. Helen was loved by many and admired by even more. She was a great confidante and listened with interest to all the tales of woes and wonder from hundreds of friends and loved ones through the years. She would never hesitate to take on the world to help facilitate any issues that might occur with her family and friends. Helen traveled widely and loved seeing new places and meeting new people. She gave freely of herself through her volunteer work, by helping friends and neighbors, but her greatest joy was caring for her beloved family. Helen was predeceased by her husband; one son, Timothy Miller; one sister, Ardelle Ubriaco; two brothers, Philip and Donald Smith. Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 29th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will take place at a later date in Jay, N.Y. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Dannemora Methodist Church. Eileen M. DarrahCADYVILLE — Eileen M. Darrah, 68, of Route 3, died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at the Cornell Hospital in New York City. She was born in Bay Shore, N.Y., on Dec. 30, 1936, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret (Flemming) Shanley. Eileen’s passions were her grandchildren, dancing, her Irish heritage and all things Irish. Survivors include her husband, Clarence "Bob" Darrah of Cadyville; her children, Donald and Sharie O'Connell of Corpus Christi, Texas, Kim O'Connell Provost of Cadyville, Sean O'Connell of Cadyville and Tara O'Connell of Corpus Christi, Texas; three stepchildren, Michael and Lynn Darrah of Cadyville, Patricia Darrah of Plattsburgh and William Darrah and his companion Lori Durham of Plattsburgh; two brothers, Francis and Hilda Shanley of Cadyville and Kenneth and Karen Shanley of Port Charlotte, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Adam and Dreana Resler-O'Connell, Ireland O'Connell, Jordon Darrah, Matthew Dunsmore, Shana Darrah, Heather Darrah, Brandon Darrah and Natasha Darrah; two great-grandchildren, Matthew Resler-O'Connell and Andrew Resler-O’Connell; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson, Jared Provost, 18, who died on Oct. 11, 2004. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. James Church in Cadyville. Burial will be at a later date in the parish cemetery. Dorothy H. "Granny" Brady, 76, of 1013 County Route 4, Fort Covington, N.Y., died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at her home under the loving care of her family and Hospice. She was born May 5, 1928, in Fort Covington Center, N.Y., the daughter of Edward and Mary L. (Brunelle) Lewis. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Fort Covington. Spring burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Covington. Funeral arrangements are through St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home, Inc., Malone. Ruth E. Allen, 82, of 17 Rennie St., Malone, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, where she had been admitted earlier in the day. She was born in Malone on Sept. 17, 1922, the daughter of the late Willard C. and Elizabeth (Gonyea) Revette. Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. John Bosco Church in Malone. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. |
