Published: 4/16/05Frances M. ThompsonLyon Mountain — Frances M. Thompson, 80, of Second Street, Lyon Mountain, died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh, N.Y. Born in Lyon Mountain, N.Y., on April 27, 1924, she was the daughter of Francis and Marie (Peets) Hamelin. She was married to Alvin Thompson on Aug. 11, 1943, in St. Bernard's Rectory, Lyon Mountain. Mrs. Thompson is survived by her husband of 61 years; four sons, Alvin and his wife Barbara Thompson of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Kenneth Thompson of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Glenn Thompson of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Scott Thompson and his companion Sue Provost of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Robert Johnson of Glens Falls and Vickie and Benny Biggs of Eagle Point, Ore.; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Charles "Slavin" and Jean Chase of Lyon Mountain, N.Y.; three sisters-in-law, Gert Hamelin of Lyon Mountain, N.Y., Connie Kline of Lyon Mountain, N.Y., and Marilyn Bowman of Arizona; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Floyd and Lillian Thompson of Morrisonville, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and a brother, Conrad "Sonny" Hamelin. Mrs. Thompson graduated from Lyon Mountain High School and attended Lorretta School of Business, Plattsburgh. She was employed by Lyon Mountain School and Northern Adirondack Central School as a secretary to the principal before retiring in 1985. She was active with the Girl Scouts of the Lyon Mountain area and taught cooking classes in her home. She was a member of St. Bernard's Church, Lyon Mountain. She was active in the Thursday Night Bowling League in Chateaugay and also active with the Republican Committee. Calling hours will be held at Lyon Mountain Funeral Home on Sunday, April 17th, from 2 to 5 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 18th, in St. Bernard's Church with Monsignor Bernard Christman, officiating. Burial will take place at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Lyon Mountain. Donations in her memory may be made to American Heart Association or Lyon Mountain Fire Department. Arrangements are through the Chateaugay Funeral Home. Catherine F. (Lapham) DeweyPlattsburgh — Catherine F. (Lapham) Dewey, 81, of Prospect Avenue, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2005, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, surrounded by her loving family. She had lived for the past year with her daughter Meg in Point au Roche. She was born in Plattsburgh on May 4, 1923, daughter of the late Arthur J. and Margaret (Dwane) Lapham. Catherine was a member of St. John's Church in Plattsburgh, a member of Catholic Daughters of America, Court Mary Immaculate, a graduate of St. John's Academy, a graduate of the Champlain Valley School of Nursing and received a School Nurse Teacher Certification from SUNY Plattsburgh. Catherine is survived by three daughters, Mary M. and Bruce Rowland of Point au Roche, Jan D. and Richard Sharp of Wayland, Mass., and Susan M. Dewey of Plattsburgh; two brothers, Frances "Gus" and Helen Lapham of Plattsburgh and Robert D. and Joyce Lapham of Renssalaer; a sister, Dorothy M. and Arnold Filion of Florida; three grandsons, Jeffrey R. Rowland, Andrew W. Sharp and Tyler W. Sharp; and several nieces and nephews. To her family, she was lovingly known as "Gammy." Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Robert W. Dewey, on Nov. 1, 1973; and one brother, Edward J. Lapham. Calling hours will be private at the convenience of the family. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 16th, at 1 p.m. from St. John's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Donations in Catherine's memory may be made to St. John's School Endowment Fund. Arrangements are with Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Evelyn A. HoughtonBarefoot Bay, Fla. — Evelyn A. Houghton of 817 Tamarind Circle, Barefoot Bay, Fla., and formerly of Redford, N.Y., died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at the Sebastian River Medical Center in Sebastian, Fla. She was born on Aug. 13, 1947, in Troy, N.Y., to Alfred and Theresa (Collins) Pellerin, but spent most of her childhood in Redford. She graduated from Saranac Central School in 1966. Evie married her husband of 38 years, Alan J. Houghton, on Aug. 12, 1968. They moved to Florida in 1981. Evie worked for many years for various companies, spending the last 20 years in the food service department of the Harris Corporation in Melbourne, Fla. Evie was an accomplished cook and loved nothing better than cooking for her family when they visited. She loved shopping only slightly less. She is survived by her husband, Alan, of Barefoot Bay; sisters, Jennifer Gosselin and her husband Richard of Springfield, Vt., and Susan Wilson of Ogdensburg, N.Y.; brothers, Joseph Pellerin and his wife Linda of Chazy Lake, N.Y., Glenn Pellerin and his wife Christina of Redford and Jeffrey Pellerin and his wife Linda of Ogdensburg, N.Y.; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and several aunts and uncles. She also leaves behind her precious "babies," Shih Tzus Tai Tai, Maggie and China Rose. Evie is predeceased by her parents. At Evie's request there will be no calling hours and her remains will be cremated. Memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Care Centers Foundation, 1430 South Pine St., Melbourne, FL 32901; one's local SPCA; or a charity of one's choice. Phillip WardVirginia Beach, Va. and Jay — Phillip Ward, 68, formerly of Jay, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 3, 2005, at Sentara Leigh Hospital. Phil was born in Jay, the son of Amos and Julia (Peck) Ward. He was a graduate of Au Sable Forks Central Rural High School He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Phil was employed for 30 years in department store management in Rochester, Syracuse and Schenectady. He has been a resident of Virginia Beach since 1978. Phil is survived by his wife, Myrna Ward; three stepsons, Jim Sattie, Stephen Sattie and Glenn Coleman; one stepdaughter, Bethany Sattie, all of Virginia Beach; five brothers, Harold of Rochester, Donald of Geneva, Amos Jr. of Connecticut, Richard of Maryland and Dennis of Au Sable Forks; five sisters, Hilda Catalfamo of Albany, Barbara Hardy of Au Sable Forks, Jean Snow and Sharon Rosio, both of Jay and Linda Cumm of Keeseville. He was predeceased by his parents. A memorial service was held on Thursday, April 7th, at the Holloman-Brown Funeral Parlor in Virginia Beach, Va. Hathaway — Committal services for Marshall W. Hathaway, 65, will be held Thursday, April 21st, at 11 a.m. in Memorial Cemetery, Lakeshore Road, Willsboro. Rev. Eileen Deming will officiate. Stoker — Committal services for Anthony J. Stoker, 92, will be held Thursday, April 21st, at 10 a.m. in Memorial Cemetery, Lakeshore Road, Willsboro. Rev. Fred Shaw will officiate. Cross — Committal services for Dwayne J. Cross, 82, will be held Friday, April 22nd, at 11 a.m. in Memorial Cemetery, Lakeshore Road, Willsboro. Rev. Eileen Deming will officiate. Beaudet — Committal services for Rev. Eugene Beaudet, 77, will be held Friday, April 22nd, at 1 p.m. in Calvary Cemetery, Lakeshore Road, Willsboro. Rev. James Delbel will officiate. |
