Published: 4/8/05Ruth VivianPlattsburgh — Ruth Vivian, 93, died April 5, 2005, at the Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility in Plattsburgh. She was born Aug. 9, 1911, in Brockton, Mass. She was predeceased by her brother, Elmer Cole and sister, Arlene Black-Fuschini. Ruth was an avid musician, accomplished in both piano and violin. She wrote and illustrated children's stories. In 1953, she wrote and published a song in tribute to Gen. Douglas MacArthur. Ruth was a life-long swimmer. As a young girl, she swam across Long Island Sound and as a senior citizen she won several gold medals in swim meets at the Fort Lauderdale Swimming Hall of Fame. Ruth was employed as a licensed practical nurse most of her life. Ruth is survived by her sons, David and Douglas Vivian of Plattsburgh; daughter-in-law Delores Vivian; grandchildren, David Vivian of Riverside, Calif., Lindsay Vivian of Los Angeles, Calif., Sean and Adam LaDieu of Plattsburgh; great-grandchildren, Brooke, Bethany, Austin, Sage and Kaden; and a nephew, William Black of Atlanta. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cerebral Palsy Association of the North Country. Viola Mae GuerinDickinson Center — Viola Mae Guerin, 92, of Ellenburg Depot, died on Thursday, April 7, 2005, at the home of her daughter, Linda Dibble, while under the care of her family and Hospice of the North Country. Born Sept. 16, 1912, in Altona, she was the daughter of Frank and Anna (Bushey) LaBarge. On Dec. 16, 1932, she married Arthur Medos Guerin in Altona. She was a devoted wife and mother of ten children; she enjoyed gardening, sewing, the company of her family and her love of cats. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by three children in infancy; a son, Amos Arthur Guerin of Cuyler, N.Y.; three brothers; and one sister. Surviving are five daughters and one son, Frank and Betty Guerin of Brushton, Bertha and Maynard Jarvis of Chateaugay, Delores (Alice) Warren of Ellenburg, Priscilla and Bryon LaGoy of Altona, Sandra and Harold Dibble Jr. of Moira and Linda and Norman Dibble of Dickinson Center; 29 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be Saturday morning, April 9, 2005, from 10 to 11:45 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Altona. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 9th, at noon from Holy Angel's Church in Altona. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Family request that donations be made to Hospice of the North Country, 130 Park St., Malone, N.Y. Ruth Mae Barnard, 88, of Tom Miller Road, died Thursday, April 7, 2005, at her home. She was born in West Chazy on Oct. 6, 1916, daughter of the late Ross G. and Ida (LaPierre) Ducatte. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Dalton E. LaCombe, 63, of 28 Pleasant St., Malone, N.Y., died Thursday, April 7, 2005, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. He was born in Norfolk, N.Y., on July 25, 1941, the son of Mervin and Orlean (Carr) LaCombe. Calling hours will be Monday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in the new St. Mary's Cemetery in Fort Covington later in the spring. |
