James R. Frazier

LATHAM — James R. Frazier, 87, of Latham, beloved husband of the late Cecilia A. Dolan Frazier, died Monday, March 28, 2005, at his residence.

Born in Troy, he was the son of the late James F. and Etta Minkler Frazier.

He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II and the recipient of the bronze star.

He was the president of Vandecar-Harmon Inc., in Albany, for over 19 years and retired in 1981. He was charter member number 52 of the Colonie Elks Lodge 2192 and a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 192 in Cohoes. Jim was a member of the Watervliet Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 729 and the seventh armored division association.

Survivors include his loving children, James W. (Debi) Frazier of St. Joseph, Mo., Margaret E. (Jens Peter) Sorensen of Saranac Lake and Cecilia E. (Gary) Clair of Schenectady. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services with military honors will be Thursday, March 31, 2005, at 9:15 a.m. from the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham and at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Rev. Geoffrey Burke, pastor.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.

Contributions to either Our Lady of the Assumption Building Fund, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham, NY 12110 or The Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Kamer Road, Albany, NY 12205.

Michael G. Hughes

Mineville — Michael G. Hughes, 94, of Mineville Road, Mineville, N.Y., passed away on March 28, 2005, at the home of his daughter, Joan A. (Hughes) Slattery.

He was born in Moriah on March 9, 1911, the son of Edward and Mary (Coughlin) Hughes.

He was a veteran of World War II and attained the rank of sergeant while serving with the U.S. Army in the Japanese Islands.

After his discharge from the Army he obtained employment as a truck driver with the Reale Construction Co. in Ticonderoga, N.Y. He was later employed by Republic Steel Corp. and worked as a miner until his retirement in 1970.

At the age of 90 he became a volunteer guide at the Iron Center Museum in Port Henry, N.Y. He was a lifelong member of Mineville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5802.

He enjoyed fishing and camping during his early retirement years and you could always find Mike and Marge sitting in their fish shanty down by the pier in Port Henry.

He is survived by his three children, Gerald Hughes and his wife Rose Marie of Tamarac, Fla., Edward Hughes and his wife Chantal of Bolton, Vt., and Joan Hughes Slattery and her husband Michael of Mineville, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Michael Slattery and his wife Christina of Mineville, Craig Slattery and his fiancée Kristi Brown of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Lonnie Hughes and family of Corpus Christi, Texas, Michael Hughes and family of San Antonio, Texas and Sandra Eng and family of Sand Springs, Okla.; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Michael was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Marjorie (Tromblee) Hughes on Nov. 8, 1998; four sisters, Hazel Ryan, Loretta Bramer, Margaret Hughes and Hannah Hughes; and three brothers, Harold, Edward and George Hughes.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, March 30, 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Church of All Saints in Mineville, N.Y.

Elizabeth Joyce Duprey

CHAZY — Elizabeth Joyce (Lapan) Duprey, 60, of Chazy passed away Monday, March 28, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born April 27, 1944, in Champlain, the daughter of the late Francis and Maude (LeClaire) Lapan.

She was predeceased by her three brothers, Frank, Lester and Fred Lapan; one sister, Theresa; her husband, Russell Duprey; daughter, Nancy Lewis; and daughter-in-law, Robin Duprey.

Elizabeth is survived by two brothers, Henry Lapan and Edward Lapan and his wife Jessica; one sister, Katherine; five sons, Danny Duprey, Michael Duprey and his companion Brenda Cook, Junior Duprey, Jeff Duprey and his wife Candice, Craig Duprey and his wife Audrey; one daughter, Margo Duprey; and many grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Thursday, March 31, 2005, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Coopersville.

Roy J. Blaise

Keeseville — Roy J. Blaise, 79, of Pleasant Street, Keeseville, died unexpectedly, March 28, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Keeseville, Sept. 3, 1925, the son of John and Florence (Poland) Blaise.

Roy served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 5, 1945 to Nov. 30, 1946, as a military policeman. He served with the 301st Military Police Company 34th Fighter Squadron on Okinawa.

He owned and operated Roy’s Trucking in Keeseville for many years. More recently he owned and operated, with his family, Keeseville Redemption Center.

Roy was a life member and former Junior Vice and Commander of the Keeseville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1505 and a former member of the Keeseville Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gardening and was known for his extra large tomatoes, but his true love was spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Helen M. (Giddings) Blaise of Keeseville; four daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Gerald Morrow of Keeseville, Carolyn and Ben Sprague of AuSable Forks, Jackie and John Theisen of Peru and Sheryl and Art Prondato of Keeseville; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Harold Blaise of Watertown, John Blaise of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Wallace and Cheryl Blaise of North Carolina; one sister, Verona Mitchell of Lewis; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild to be; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; a son-in-law, Gregory L. Roy Sr.; a great-granddaughter, Kori Roy; and a sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Charles Dowd.

At Roy’s request there will be no calling hours. A graveside will be held Friday, April 1 2005, at 2 p.m. at the Port Douglas Cemetery in Keeseville with Jeff Hewston, chaplain for the AuSable Forks American Legion Post 504, officiating. Full military honors will follow accorded by the Vermont Air National Guard Honor Guard.

Donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude’s Research.

Arrangements are by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville.

Michael Allen Casey

Taegu, Korea — Michael Allen Casey, son of Gertrude Tyler and Edgar Casey, both deceased, died on Feb. 28, 2005, at the age of 68 in Taegu, Korea.

Michael was born and brought up in Elizabethtown, N.Y.

He left ELCS in 1955 to enter military service and was sent to Germany where he attended and graduated from NCO Academy. After ten years in the Army Mike was discharged honorably.

He married and settled in Schenectady, N.Y., where he worked in construction of new homes. After a divorce in 1970, Michael reentered the Army and was sent to Korea where he worked with the Army Corps of Engineers until he retired, after which he remained in Korea as a civilian consultant.

Mike was fond of quoting General George S. Patton Jr., "The highest obligation and privilege of citizenship is that of bearing arms for one’s country."

Michael was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Korea, where he hosted an annual St. Patrick’s Day party. He also used to tell me, "God created whiskey so the Irish wouldn’t rule the world."

After surviving cancer but weakened by the long treatment, he fell and broke his leg, and then succumbed to the flu.

Michael is survived by his wife, Hwa Cha; his sister Pat (Casey) Pearson; 22 nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Donald, Stanley and Roland; two sisters, Doris and Phyllis; and two nieces, Cathy and Priscilla.

Michael’s remains were cremated and his ashes scattered on a local river as is Korean custom. We miss you Mike.

Rene J. Tetreault, 69, of Chazy died Monday, March 28, 2005, at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Mass.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain.

Virginia Helms Farr, 92, or Kickerville Road, Long Lake, died Sunday, March 27, 2005 at her home in Long Lake in the company of her family.

She was born March 27, 1913, in Long Lake, the daughter of Oakman and Elsie (Roger) Helms.

Calling hours will be held at the St. Henry's Church Parish Center on Wednesday, March 30, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial Mass will take place on Thursday, March 31, 2005, at 10 a.m. at St. Henry's Church. Graveside services will follow at Long Lake Cemetery.

Nancy Marie Hutchins, 55, of Washington Street, Tupper Lake died Saturday, March 26, 2005, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. She had been rehabilitating recently at the Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid.

She was born Oct. 14, 1949, in Tupper Lake, the daughter of Roy and Isabelle (Young) Garrow.

Calling hours will be at the Richer Funeral Home on Friday, April 1, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Holy Name Church. Burial at Holy Name Cemetery will be held in May.

CARL LEON STEENBERGE, 81, of the Alice Hyde Nursing Home died Monday, March 28, 2005, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center.

Born Oct. 15, 1923, in Constable, he was the son of Leon and Lydia (Brady) Steenberge.

There will be no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph’s Church. Spring burial will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Fort Covington Street Road, Malone.
