Published: 3/29/05Elizabeth R. ShippeeHADLEY — Elizabeth R. "Betty" Shippee, age 82, formerly of North Shore Road, died Tuesday evening, March 22, 2005, at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, Plattsburgh. Born on May 4, 1922, in New York City, she was the daughter of Otto and Florence (Reid) Eisen. She married Henry E. "Hank" Shippee on Dec. 20, 1943, in Corinth. Mr. Shippee died on July 5, 1994. Betty was an avid reader. She enjoyed her cats, watching movies on television, shopping and traveling throughout the country with her sister, Peggy and brother-in-law, Francis. She was predeceased by one sister, Mary Tracy; and one brother, William Eisen. Survivors include her sister, Margaret "Peggy" Curran and her husband Francis of Peru; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted on Friday, March 25, 2005, at Brewer Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Church Street, Lake Luzerne, with the Rev. Dan Jones, pastor of the Community Church of Conklingville, officiating. Spring burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Corinth. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Betty's memory may be directed to your local Humane Society. Marvin F. TrombleyBRATTLEBORO — Marvin Floyd "Mike" Trombley, 84, of Carriage Hill Road, died Sunday, March 20, 2005, at Maplewood Nursing Home in Westmoreland, N.H., where he had been a resident since May 2000. Mr. Trombley was born May 29, 1920, in Lyon Mountain, N.Y., the son of Louis and Vergia (Benjamin) Trombley. He was raised and educated in Ellenburg Depot and Malone, N.Y., where he was an outstanding athlete in many sports and excelled in cross-country running, track, boxing and wrestling. He participated in sports for many years and was active playing softball, in his seventies. He also played on the Brattleboro Recreation Department basketball teams for many years, competed in area horse shoe pitching tournaments and was avid bowler. He boxed professionally in Brattleboro in 1939 and during the early 1940’s. An ardent outdoorsman he enjoyed and loved hunting and fishing, especially with his sons and grandchildren. He served his country in the U.S. Army from Jan 8, 1945 until his honorable discharge from active service Oct. 27, 1946, with the Philippine Liberation and Army Occupation of Japan. Mr. Trombley had been employed by H. Margolin Company, American Optical and several other local businesses. He worked as a welder at Isaacson's Shipyard in Seattle and owned and operated his own welding shop on Flat Street in Brattleboro before becoming a member of the Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Union Local 104, from which he retired in 1987. He worked on construction as a pipe fitter/supervisor throughout New England and New Brunswick, Canada and spent four years in Louisiana. He was an extremely hard working individual with strong work ethics. Mr. Trombley was a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Brattleboro Aerie No. 2445, where he served as secretary; held membership in American Legion Brattleboro Post 5, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Carl M. Dessaint Post 1034; and was a communicant of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Brattleboro. On Nov. 11, 1939, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, he was married to Nina Evelyn McCoy, who survives. Besides his wife of 65 years, he leaves three sons, Michael L. Trombley and Patrick A. Trombley, both of Brattleboro and James A. Trombley of Boca Raton, Fla.; one brother, Claude A. Trombley of Orlando, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one son, Major David L. Trombley in 2002; and two brothers, Maynard P. Trombley and Francis Trombley. The Liturgy of Christian burial was celebrated Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Walnut Street. Burial with full military honors followed in St. Michael's Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's School, 48 Walnut Street, Brattleboro, VT 05301, in care of Mr. Frank Vara, principal; or to Hristianna's Gift, PO Box 54, Keene, NH 03431. Margaret Elaine NortonElizabethtown — Margaret Elaine (Tyler) Norton, 91, of Elizabethtown passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at the Horace Nye Nursing Home in Elizabethtown. She was born in Lewis, N.Y., Dec. 16, 1913, the daughter of Robert and May (Bouchard) Tyler. She married Arthur Norton Sr., who passed away July 22, 1989. She was very active in her church, participating in the choir and Alter Guild at the Church of the Good Shepard. Her hobbies were quilting, sewing and flower gardening. She was a member of the Quilter’s Club, Ladybug Quilters and the Plattsburgh Quilting Guild. She retired from New York Telephone Company and was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She enjoyed sports, especially basketball, baseball and football. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Arthur Norton, Jr. and wife Barbara of Peru, N.Y.; and one daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia Kane and husband Charlie of Fayetteville, Pa. She also leaves her loving grandchildren, Larry Norton Sr. and wife Dorothy of Peru, Thomas Norton of Plattsburgh, Kathy (Norton) LeClair and husband David of Peru, Lisa (Kane) McNully and husband Pat of New Hall, Calif., Leigh Ann (Kane) Gennero and husband John of Anthem, Ariz., Beth Ellen (Kane) Cody and husband John of Alexandria, Va.; and loving great-grandchildren, Larry Norton Jr. and Ashley Norton of Peru, Dustin LeClair and Kaitlin LeClair of Peru and Johnnie Gennero and Jake Gennero of Anthem, Ariz. She is predeceased by two brothers, Robert Tyler Jr. and Frank Tyler; and one sister, Joyce (Tyler) Merrill. Calling hours will be Friday, April 1, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at W.M. Marvin’s Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. The funeral service will be held at the Church of the Good Shepard in Elizabethtown at 3:30 on Saturday, April 2, 2005. James R. FrazierLATHAM — James R. Frazier, 87, of Latham, beloved husband of the late Cecilia A. Dolan Frazier died Monday, March 28, 2005, at his residence. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late James F. and Etta Minkler Frazier. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II and the recipient of the bronze star. He was the president of Vandecar-Harmon Inc., in Albany, for over 19 years and retired in 1981. He was charter member number 52 of the Colonie Elks Lodge 2192 and a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 192 in Cohoes. Jim was a member of the Watervliet Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 729 and the seventh armored division association. Survivors include his loving children, James W. (Debi) Frazier of St. Joseph, Mo., Margaret E. (Jens Peter) Sorensen of Saranac Lake and Cecilia E. (Gary) Clair of Schenectady. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. Funeral services with military honors will be Thursday, March 31, 2005, at 9:15 a.m. from the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham and at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Rev. Geoffrey Burke, pastor. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna. StaplesMoriah, NY — Joyce L. Staples, 76, of Windy Hill Road, Moriah died Saturday, March 26, 2005, at the Evergreen Nursing Home in Plattsburgh, N.Y. She was born May 30, 1929, in Warren, Maine, the daughter of Michael and Mary (Connell) Halligan. Joyce was a longtime resident of Moriah. She was a member of the Moriah Methodist Church. She is survived by her sons, Alan Siili of Port Henry and Steven Staples his wife Melissa and daughter Samantha of Moriah; her daughter, Candace Davis and her husband Joseph of Tennessee. Her husband, Linwood Staples died March 4, 1990. There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the Moriah Methodist Church, Moriah, N.Y. Spring burial will be in South Moriah Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Town of Moriah Ambulance Squad. Roy J. Blaise, 79, of Pleasant Street, Keeseville, died unexpectedly, March 28, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Keeseville Sept. 3, 1925, the son of John and Florence (Poland) Blaise. At Roy's request there will be no calling hours. A graveside service and full military honors will be held Friday, April 1, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the Port Douglas Cemetery in Keeseville. A complete obituary will be in the Wednesday Press-Republican.
