John C. Mattoon

Whitehall — John C. Mattoon, 76, of State Route 4, passed away on March 15, 2005, at the Mortan Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Fla.

Born on March 9, 1929, in Saranac, he was the son of Luther and Valida Mattoon.

John was employed by the New York State Department of Corrections for 32 years, retiring in 1984 as a vocational instructor specializing in vehicle restoration.

John was an avid collector of model cars and loved the challenge of a good crossword or word jumble puzzle. He also enjoyed traveling with his family and friends.

He was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 276 of Whitehall and a Fourth Degree Member of Saint Isaac Jogues Assembly 756 of Ticonderoga. He was also a member of the Skene Manor Preservation, Inc.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marilyn M. (Besaw) Mattoon of Whitehall, whom he wed on Aug. 28, 1950; seven children, Lynn and Timothy Patno of Peru, N.Y., John D. Mattoon of Cadyville, N.Y., Kathy and Rodger Furnia of Columbia, S.C., Brenda and John Michael of Independence, Mo., Lori Mattoon of Schenectady, Jay Mattoon of Schenectady and Lisa and John Jardine of Peru, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one brother, George Mattoon and his wife Eileen of Malone, N.Y.

Family and friends may call at the Jillson Funeral Home, Inc., 46 Williams St., Whitehall, N.Y., on Monday, March 21st, from 5 to 8 p.m. The Knights of Columbus, Council 276, will conduct a color guard from 6 to 8 p.m. and will recite the rosary at 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 22, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, Skene Street, Whitehall, N.Y., presided by Rev. Francis Dunbar, assisted by Rev. David LeFort, pastor, officiating. Entombment with services will be conducted at Whispering Maples Gardens in Plattsburgh at 4 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Mattoon, John Mattoon, Aaron Mattoon, Timothy Patno, Joshua Proulx and Joseph Daniels.

Immediately following the Mass, family and friends are invited to Our Lady of Hope Church Hall for a time of fellowship and refreshments.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation in John's name to Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, 9 Wheeler Ave., Whitehall, NY 12887, or the Skene Manor Preservation, Inc., 8 Potters Terrace, Whitehall, NY 12887.

Dorothy M. Caron

Plattsburgh — Mrs. Dorothy M. Caron, 84, of Flynn Avenue, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2005, at the Clinton County Nursing Home in Plattsburgh. She was born in Henriette, Minn., on Aug. 4, 1920, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Goltz) Streed.

Dorothy worked at Social Security Administration and retired as a field rep. Dorothy was the secretary to Caron Electric Motors for many years. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Parish, served as the Regent for the Daughters of Isabella, president of the Our Lady of Victory Rosary Society, past president of the American Legion Post 1623 Ladies Auxiliary, past president of the Clinton County American Legion Auxiliary. Dorothy was on the advisory committee for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program; she was queen of the Plattsburgh Bicentennial celebration, Battle of Plattsburgh. She enjoyed visiting with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by four children, Joanne Clark of Glen Mills, Pa., Elaine Conway of Orlando, Fla., Thomas Caron and his wife Sandy of Plattsburgh and Lorraine Young of Peru; a brother, Vincent Streed and his wife Joanne of Minneapolis, Minn.; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred G. "Bill" Caron. They were married in 1944; Bill died in 1983. She was also predeceased by a sister, Gladys Peterson.

Calling hours will be Sunday, March 20, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, March 21, 2005, at noon from Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be later this spring in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

The family extends their sincere appreciation to the staff of Clinton County Nursing Home for the wonderful care they provided.

Donations in Dorothy's name may be made to Our Lady of Victory Church Building Fund.

Nora Marie Lakers

Morrisonville — Nora Marie Lakers, 67, of Banker Road, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2005, at her home. She was born in Saranac on April 23, 1937, daughter of the late Edward and Addie (Carron) Macey.

Nora loved motorcycle rides, camping and snowmobile with her husband. She enjoyed volunteering for St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville and St. Joseph's Church in Treadwells Mills. Nora was a member of the Mae Currier Senior Center in Plattsburgh, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Peru Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of St. Alexander's Parish in Morrisonville. She enjoyed spending precious time with her family and grandchildren.

Nora is survived by her husband, Edward R. Lakers, whom she married on Feb. 25, 1961, in Cadyville; five daughters, Jane and Philip Tawney of Yorktown, Va., Theresa and Lawrence Liberty of Fairfax, Va., Pamela and Craig Szatkowski of Morrisonville, Tamela Lakers of Chazy and Michelle and Thomas Diman of Peru; ten grandchildren, Jeffrey and Nicholas Tawney, Stephanie and Alexander Liberty, Matthew and Jade Lakers, Ariel and Cameron Diman, David and Chelsea Szatkowski; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Sunday, March 20, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Robert J. Rivers

Beekmantown — Robert J. Rivers, 71, of Spellman Road, Beekmantown, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh on June 25, 1933, son of the late Henry and Mary (Scott) Rivers.

Robert was employed by G and G Tire in Plattsburgh for many years. He enjoyed camping and fishing.

Robert is survived by five children, Robert Rivers Jr., Jennie, John, Jerry and Cheryl; 14 stepchildren, Florence and Jimmy Goddeau, Donna and Jack Boland, Ralph Dapo and Rosie Covell, Betty Bell, John Dapo, Archie and Linda Dapo, Bernice and Charles Miller, Albert and Rene Dapo, Danny and Cheri Dapo, Georgie and Shannon Dapo, Becky and Neil Prim, Nanette and Charles Daniels, Thelma Berger, David Dapo; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and good friends, Kim Daniels and Tracey Perham; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert was predeceased by his wife, Thelma F. Rivers, on Oct. 29, 2004; seven sisters, Frances Rougier, Lena Anagnes, Mary Daniels, Elizabeth Daniels, Florence Corron, Pauline Corron, Alice Turner; three brothers, Lawrence Rivers, Joseph Rivers and Raymond Rivers.

A funeral service was held on Friday, March 18, 2005, at 11 a.m. from Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Floyd Bleaux, pastor of Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh, officiating. Burial will be later in the year in St. Peter's Cemetery.

Mary Alice Buck, 90, of Plattsburgh, died Friday, March 18, 2005, at her residence.

Arrangements were incomplete Friday evening at the O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Elsie M. Manor, 73, of Alford Blvd., Plattsburgh, died Thursday, March 17, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center.

She was born in Plattsburgh on June 21, 1931, the daughter of Edmund and Maryette (Rock) Annis.

Arrangements are incomplete with the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Ralph L. Newsham, 77, of Holland Avenue, Plattsburgh, died Friday, March 18, 2005, at his home.

He was born in Plattsburgh on Feb. 22, 1928, the son of Ralph C. and Marcella (Madden) Newsham.

Arrangements for calling hours and funeral service were incomplete Friday evening at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home.
