Leo A. Hemingway

Mooers Forks — Leo Amos Hemingway, 69, of Mooers Forks, passed away in Sebring, Fla., at the Highlands Regional Medical Center on March 12, 2005.

Leo was born on June 1, 1935, and was a resident of Mooers Forks. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years and worked as a laborer in upstate New York for 36 years.

He also served as the Administrator for Laborers Union Local No. 186 Benefit Trust Funds in Plattsburgh for the last nine years of his career. He owned his own construction business and a gun shop for several years.

Leo was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He enjoyed watching wildlife and spent many hours in his favorite tree stand. In his later years, he became a true elite chef and became known for his inventive and risky recipes that he insisted you sample.

Leo Hemingway is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marjorie (Begor); daughter, Debra Hemingway of Hemmingford, Quebec; son, Randy Hemingway of Mooers Forks; daughter, Lenore Hemingway and son-in-law Steven Fiedler of Colorado Springs, Colo.; son, Vitchel and daughter-in-law Ellen Hemingway and daughters Kathleen and Tammy Hemingway, all of Mooers Forks; grandchildren Christopher and Brian Bourdon of Hemmingford, Quebec, Caroline Bourdon of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Garrett Hemingway of Plattsburgh and David Fiedler of Colorado Springs; great-grandchildren Kassandra and Kole Wikander of Thunder Bay, Ontario. His cherished companion in recent years was his little dog Cuddles, who loved to model a pair of pink sunglasses for every available cameraman. He is survived by brothers David Hemingway of Altona, Tony Hemingway of Morrisonville; and sister, Bertha Armstrong of Altona.

Leo is predeceased by his parents, Edgar and Lillian Hemingway of Altona; brothers Kenneth and Joseph; and sisters Valeda Savage, Shirley Arquette, Pearl Moore and Catherine Hemingway.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers. Members of the Mooers Knights of Columbus will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home for services. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday from St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks. Interment will follow at Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mooers Fire Department or Rescue Squad.

Robert J. Rivers

Beekmantown — Robert J. Rivers, 71, of Spellman Road, Beekmantown, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Plattsburgh on June 25, 1933, son of the late Henry and Mary (Scott) Rivers.

Robert was employed by G and G Tire in Plattsburgh for many years. He enjoyed camping and fishing.

Robert is survived by five children; 14 stepchildren, Florence and Jimmy Goddeau, Donna and Jack Boland, Ralph Dapo and Rosie Covell, Betty Bell, John Dapo, Archie and Linda Dapo, Bernice and Charles Miller, Albert and Rene Dapo, Danny and Cheri Dapo, Georgie and Shannon Dapo, Becky and Neil Prim, Nanette and Charles Daniels, Thelma Berger, David Dapo; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and good friends, Kim Daniels and Tracey Perham.

Robert was predeceased by his wife, Thelma F. Rivers on Nov. 29, 2004.

Calling hours will be Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. from Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Floyd Bleaux, pastor of Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh officiating. Burial will be later in the year in St. Peter's Cemetery.

Leo L. Taylor

Crown Point — Leo L. Taylor, 89, of 28 Narrowtown Road, Crown Point, N.Y., passed away at his home on Wednesday, March 16, 2005, with his wife of 53 years, Rita and his children by his side.

Born March 8, 1916, in Crown Point, Leo was the son of the late William and Amanda (Stanton) Taylor.

Leo was a World War II veteran serving in Guadal Canal.

He worked at International Paper Company in Ticonderoga, N.Y., and retired as Crown Point Highway Superintendent. Leo was a member of the American Legion Burnell Ross Post 1403.

Survivors are his wife, Rita (Hall) Taylor; two daughters, Deborah Price and husband Mark and Kimberly Woods and husband Kevin; one son, Christopher and his girlfriend Michelle Stoddard and her children, all of Crown Point; a daughter from a previous marriage, Donna Crom and husband Albert of Wyoming. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Justin Taylor, Taylor Price, Erica Woods Carey, Travis Woods, Fallon Woods, Chris Shawn Taylor, James Taylor, Melissa Hundson and Fred Hundson Jr.; and one stepgrandson, A.J. Cram. Leo has one great-grandson, Tristan Carey. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Leo was predeceased by his parents; and two sisters, Marjorie Towne and Louise Louise Rice.

There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. Burial will be in the White Church Cemetery, Crown Point, N.Y., in the spring.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Leo's memory to High Peaks Hospice or to the Phelps Rescue Squad, Crown Point, N.Y.

Lena D. Lamica, 85, died at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid, where she had been a resident since August of 2000.

Mrs. Lamica was born in Santa Clara, N.Y., Aug. 21, 1919, the daughter of William and Anna (Bray) Schenk.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. A bible vigil will be held Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered Saturday at noon at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid, Rev. Patrick O’Reilly will officiate. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in May.

RUTH D. DAVIS, 90, of Route 22, Peru, died peacefully Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at her home.

She was born in Moria, May 1, 1914 the daughter of Hiram Benson and Lydia (Bigelow) Drake.

Calling hours and funeral service times were incomplete Wednesday evening and will be announced by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru.
