Edna May Brock LaRose Burch

Ticonderoga — Edna May Brock LaRose Burch, 79, of the Vineyard Road, passed away Monday, March 14, 2005, at the Moses-Ludington Hospital of Ticonderoga.

Born in Hague, March 7, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Edward and
Bertha (Yaw) LaRose.

Mrs. Burch was a resident of Ticonderoga for most of her life.

She married her husband, Edward S. Burch Sr., on Oct. 22, 1944. He predeceased her on Dec. 30, 1989.

Survivors include four sons, Edward S. Burch Jr. of Ticonderoga, James R. Burch of Concord, N.H., Ronald P. Burch of Pelham, N.H., and Gordon D. Burch of Randolph, Vt.; two daughters, Ann Marie Ames of Pittsfield, N.H., and Vicki J. Perrino of Ballston Spa; and two brothers, Joseph LaRose and Harold LaRose, both of Ballston Spa; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her good friend of 18 years, Napolean J. Eubar of Ticonderoga.

Relatives and friends may call Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga, N.Y.

A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Paul O’Connor, pastor of the Cornerstone Alliance Church of Ticonderoga, will officiate.

Interment will take place in the spring at the family plot of the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Ticonderoga.

Leo A. Hemingway

Mooers Forks — Leo Amos Hemingway, 69, of Mooers Forks, passed away in Sebring, Fla., at the Highlands Regional Medical Center on March 12, 2005.

Leo was born on June 1, 1935, and was a resident of Mooers Forks. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years and worked as a laborer in upstate New York for 36 years.

He also served as the Administrator for Laborers Union Local No. 186 Benefit Trust Funds in Plattsburgh for the last nine years of his career. He owned his own construction business and a gun shop for several years.

Leo was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He enjoyed watching wildlife and spent many hours in his favorite tree stand. In his later years, he became a true elite chef and became known for his inventive and risky recipes that he insisted you sample.

Leo Hemingway is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marjorie (Begor); daughter, Debra Hemingway of Hemmingford, Quebec; son, Randy Hemingway of Mooers Forks; daughter, Lenore Hemingway and son-in-law Steven Fiedler of Colorado Springs, Colo.; son, Vitchel and daughter-in-law Ellen Hemingway and daughters Kathleen and Tammy Hemingway, all of Mooers Forks; grandchildren Christopher and Brian Bourdon of Hemmingford, Quebec, Caroline Bourdon of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Garrett Hemingway of Plattsburgh and David Fiedler of Colorado Springs; great-grandchildren Kassandra and Kole Wikander of Thunder Bay, Ontario. His cherished companion in recent years was his little dog Cuddles, who loved to model a pair of pink sunglasses for every available cameraman. He is survived by brothers David Hemingway of Altona, Tony Hemingway of Morrisonville; and sister, Bertha Armstrong of Altona.

Leo is predeceased by his parents, Edgar and Lillian Hemingway of Altona; brothers Kenneth and Joseph; and sisters Valeda Savage, Shirley Arquette, Pearl Moore and Catherine Hemingway.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers. Members of the Mooers Knights of Columbus will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home for services. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday from St. Ann’s Church in Mooers Forks. Interment will follow at Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mooers Fire Department or Rescue Squad.

Frances E. "Mimi" LaPierre

Plattsburgh — Frances E. "Mimi" LaPierre, 84, of Monty Street, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2005, at Prattville Baptist Health Center in Prattville, Ala. Frances was born in Plattsburgh on Oct. 7, 1920, daughter of the late Charles and Eva (Mousseau) Andrews.

Frances was the head of the Democratic Committee of Clinton County; she was a member of Bluff Point Golf and Country Club, club champion of Adirondack Golf, B flight; she was a retail salesperson in Plattsburgh, her last employment was the Dry Dock Lounge in Plattsburgh. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church. Frances enjoyed bowling, golf, gambling, reading, traveling and thoroughly enjoyed her large family.

Frances is survived by six children, James (Melanie) LaPierre of Dover Plains, Donna (Jimmie) Temar of Cincinnati, Ohio, Patricia Rabideau and special friend Janet Conklin of Canton, Rosie (Gene) Grothe of Prattville, Ala., Cheryl (Darryl) Smith of Prattville, Ala., and Susan Stefanick and her companion Billy Joe Leopard of Plattsburgh; 16 grandchildren, James and Michael LaPierre, Chris and Jimmie Temar, Missy Engelman, Jon, Cynthia and Kim Rabideau, Sandi Smith, Lori Noe, Bruce, Josh and Bradley Fisher, Carrie Brookshire, from all over the United States, Megan Cook from Schuyler Falls and her father, Donald Cook from Plattsburgh; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Bob Burke of Plattsburgh; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gladys and Bill Wade of Peru, Bob and Pat LaPier of Plattsburgh; and all her friends at the Dry Dock.

Frances was predeceased by her husband, Frances E. LaPierre, on May 26, 1995; a grandson, Troy Temar on July 4, 1999; and a grandson, Danny Grothe.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, March 16th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 17th at 9 a.m. from Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be later in the year in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

A reception will follow the funeral at the Dry Dock Lounge on U.S. Avenue in Plattsburgh.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice or to the family.

Ann R. Galarneau

Union Falls — Ann R. Galarneau, 81, died Sunday, March 13, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Boght Corners, N.Y., on Oct. 28, 1923, the daughter of Jacob J. and Catherine (Pavelcak) Landor.

She and her husband John owned and operated the Clayburg Hotel for many years. She was a member of the Church of the Assumption in Redford and enjoyed bingo, pinochle, crochet and time with her family.

She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, James J. and Cheryl Galarneau of Greenfield Center, John Joseph and Patty Galarneau of Saranac and David J. Galarneau of AuSable Forks; a daughter and son-in-law, Anne and James "Bud" Terry of Cadyville; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Ann Landor of Boght Corner, N.Y.; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Frydel of Boght Corner, N.Y., Elizabeth Hutchens of Waterford, Albina Dellaroco of Boght Corner and Theresa and Dave Benamati of Boght Corner; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, John J. Galarneau Jr.; a granddaughter, Nicole Galarneau; a brother, Michael J. Landor and a sister, Catherine Reepmeyer, all died earlier.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the O’Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday from the Church of the Assumption in Redford. Interment will be in Holy Name Cemetery in AuSable Forks at a later date.

Douglas Duquette

Saranac Lake — Douglas Duquette, age 59, of 14 Kiwassa Rd., Saranac Lake, died Monday, March 14, 2005, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt.

Born in Saranac Lake, N.Y., on March 3, 1946, he was the son of Carlton and Frances (Drew) Duquette.

Mr. Duquette was a life long resident of the Saranac Lake area. He was employed by the New York State Department of Corrections for 24 years until his retirement due to health reasons. Prior to that, he had been employed by the Saranac Lake Village Police Department for several years. Mr. Duquette was a member of the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department since the early 1960s and began there as a cadet fire fighter under Carl Smith. He is a past First Assistant Chief of the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department. He also held various offices throughout his fire service career and had recently became an emergency medical technician for the fire department’s rescue squad. He was a member of the fire department’s bowling team for many years and was an avid hunter, fisherman and NASCAR racing fan.

He is survived by two daughters, Lorri Brown and her husband Jeff of Saranac Lake, N.Y., and Nicole Duquette and her friend Mark Bigelow of Saranac Lake, N.Y.; one sister, Frances Hogan and her husband Howard of Georgia, Vt.; two brothers, David L. Duquette and his wife Joyce of Saranac Lake, N.Y., and John C. Duquette of Bloomingdale, N.Y.; and one granddaughter, Madison Brown of Saranac Lake, N.Y. He is also survived by his former wife of 38 years, Judy Woodruff of Gabriels, N.Y.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carlton Duquette and his mother, Frances (Drew) Duquette.

Calling hours will be held at Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A fireman’s prayer service will take place on Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. A Bible vigil service will immediately follow. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Church, with Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Following cremation, burial will take place in Mt. View Cemetery in Gabriels.

Friends wishing to remember Douglas Duquette may make memorial contributions to Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department in care of the funeral home.

Phyllis C. Macey Kobusinski

Erie, Pa. — Phyllis C. Macey Kobusinski, 58, of 960 West 34th St., Erie, Pa., died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at her residence.

She was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Dec. 26, 1946, daughter of Agnes (Dashnaw) Macey of Saranac, N.Y., and the late Erwin Macey.

Mrs. Kobusinski was employed at St. Mary’s Home-East. She was a devoted wife and mother.

Besides her father, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dwayne and Eugene Macey; and one granddaughter, Samantha Kobusinski.

Besides her mother, survivors include her husband, Richard C. Kobusinski; two daughters, Kimberly Hastings and Jodie Balkovic and her husband Eric; two sons, Richard Kobusinski Jr. and his wife Lisa and Frank Kobusinski and his wife Kelly, all of Erie; seven sisters, Veleda Praeger, Chesapeake, Va., Ruth Macey, Plattsburgh, N.Y., Mildred Stoughton, Saranac, N.Y., Eva Hodge and her husband Wayne, Peebles, Ohio, Yvonne Price and her husband Carl, Columbus, Ohio, Virginia Russell and her husband John Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Cheryl Campbell Ellenburg Depot, N.Y.; six brothers, Allen Macey and his wife Claire Morrisonville, N.Y., Robert Macey, Marvin Macey and his wife Pam and Dale Macey, all of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Leeward Macey and Brian Macey, both of Saranac, N.Y. Also survived by nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were held at the Carl A. Slomski & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2101 Ash St., Erie, on Friday with a Mass of Christian burial at Holy Trinity Church on Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to the family.

Earl W. Welch

PORT HENRY — Earl W. Welch, 86, of Port Henry, died Saturday, March 12, 2005, at the Horace Nye Nursing Home in Elizabethtown, N.Y.

He was born May 8, 1918, in Fair Haven, Vt., the son of Erin and Julia (Martin) Welch.

Earl was a veteran of World War II. He was retired from Republican Steel Corporation in Mineville. He also worked at Frontier Town, North Hudson, N.Y., until its closing.

He is survived by his children, Joan Tryon of Warrensburgh, N.Y., Elizabeth Santorella of Warrensburgh, Nancy and Glenn Durfee of Port Henry, Tammy and Robin Gregory of Cheever, N.Y., Theresa and William Spear of Lewis, N.Y., Penny Welch of Lewis, N.Y., Howard and Sharon Welch of Keeseville, N.Y., Earl Jr. and Helena Welch of Cheever, N.Y., Raymond and Helen Welch of New Russia, N.Y., Stanley and Judy Welch of Elizabethtown, N.Y., and Michael Welch and companion Debbie of Lewis, N.Y.; his brother, Howard Welch of Fair Haven, Vt.; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth (Sausville) Welch, on Jan. 11, 1979; his two children, John and Kathy Welch; his sister, Mildred Perkins; and his brothers, Walter and William Welch.

Burial will take place in the spring at Union Cemetery, Moriah, N.Y. Donations may be made in Earl’s memory to your local SPCA.

George R. Carr

Syracuse, N.Y. — George R. Carr, 87, of The Valley, died Sunday, March 13, 2005, at Community General Hospital.

Born in Plattsburgh, he was a graduate of University of Maine at Bangor. He taught journalism at OCC and worked with the South Side News. He retired as editor with the Syracuse Post Standard in 1998 after 49 years. He was previously managing editor of the Press-Republican in Plattsburgh up until 1959.

He enjoyed traveling and summers at Lake Champlain and winters at Anna Maria Island, Fla. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Lynn Carr, in 1993.

George is survived by his wife, the former Joan Mehan; three daughters and son-in-law, Corrie Lopipero of Camillus, Barbara Carr of Liverpool and Kimberly (Eric) Broeker of Cicero; two sons, William G. (Patricia) Carr and James S. Carr, both of Plattsburgh; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services on Wednesday at 9 a.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Syracuse and 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes, 300 Valley Drive, Syracuse, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father Thomas Fitzpatrick.

Burial will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery, Syracuse. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, 4612 S. Salina Street.

John A. Bourey, 55, of 215 Elm St., Malone, N.Y., and a resident of the Alice Hyde Nursing Home since February, passed away Monday, March 14, 2005, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center, Malone, where he had been transferred earlier that morning.

He was born in Malone on Nov. 25, 1949, the son of Francis A. and Grace (Messier) Bourey.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. in Notre Dame Church in Malone. Burial will be in the parish cemetery later in the spring.

Arrangements are through the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service of Malone.

Nancy A. Riley, 57, of 83 Fort Covington St., Malone, N.Y., died Sunday, March 13, 2005, at her home while under the loving care of her family and Hospice of the North Country, Inc.

She was born in Malone on June 26, 1947, the daughter of William and Leonora (St. Hilaire) Rabideau.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Joseph Selenski officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Brushton, N.Y., in the spring.

A gathering will be held after the funeral service at the First Baptist Church on Harrison Place in Malone.
