Phillip Allen Grimm

Plattsburgh — Phillip Allen Grimm, 56, a resident of the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and formerly of Keeseville, N.Y., died Saturday, March 12, 2005, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, N.Y., following a courageous battle against MS.

Born in Louisville, Ky., Nov. 14, 1948, he was the son of John E. and Charlotte (Allen) Grimm.

Following high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force, serving in Utapao, Thailand, and at the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base. He was honorably discharged in 1972.

On June 8, 1971, he was united in marriage to the former Nora R. Avery at the new base chapel at Plattsburgh Air Force Base. They divorced in 1990 and remained friends. There were no children.

From 1974 until 1988, Phil was a civilian firefighter at Plattsburgh Air Force Base. From 1971 until 1988, he was a member of the Cumberland Head, Beekmantown, Peru and Keeseville Volunteer Fire Departments. As Rescue Captain of the Keeseville Department, he was responsible for recruiting the first female member of that department. He was a member of the Keeseville Lodge of Elk.

He enjoyed boating on Lake Champlain in a 1959 Chris-Craft cabin cruiser that he helped restore. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle.

Survivors include his ex-wife, Nora Avery of Malone; his mother, Charlotte R. Grimm of Westland, Mich.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Frederic Carl and Gena Grimm of Dearborn, Mich., and Alan H. and Karen Grimm of Brighton, Mich.; one sister, Beverly Grimm Kissell of Ann Arbor, Mich.; five nieces; three nephews; one half brother and his wife, John E. and Dotty Grimm Jr.; and a half sister, JoAnn Grimm Ehalt, all of Indiana; and his extended family, the caregivers at Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.

His father predeceased him in 1984.

There are no calling hours. Funeral services and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the new Veterans Cemetery in Howell, Mich.

Donations may be made in his memory to either the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or to the Keeseville Volunteer Fire Department.

Arrangements are through the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service, Inc. of Malone.

Helen Bird, 91, of Rabideau Street, Cadyville, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, March 12, 2005, at her home.

She was born in Morrisonville, N.Y., on April 13, 1913, the daughter of Henry and Helen (Martineau) Martineau.

Calling hours and funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Brown Funeral Home, Park Row, Cadyville.

Arthur W. Wareham, 90, of 46 Rockledge Rd., Saranac Lake, died Thursday, March 10, 2005, at his home.

He was born June 26, 1914, in Pardley, Pa.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. Luke's Church in Saranac Lake. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Paul Smiths, in May.
