Geraldine R. LaTour

TICONDEROGA — Geraldine R. "Dene" (DuRoss) LaTour, 83, of Ticonderoga, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2005, at the Moses-Ludington Hospital of Ticonderoga.

Born in Ticonderoga, Aug. 27, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Florence (Supry) DuRoss.

Dene was a 1939 graduate of Ticonderoga High School. She married John M. LaTour on Oct. 19, 1940, in a candlelight ceremony at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ticonderoga.

Dene was a lifelong resident of Ticonderoga. During her lifetime, she was employed by International Paper Company, Stanley’s Market, and Moses-Ludington Hospital, from where she retired in 1993, all of Ticonderoga.

She was predeceased by both her mother and father; her husband, who died in 1970; her son-in-law, Charles W. Perkins Sr.; and her grandson, Charles W. Perkins Jr.

Survivors include her three daughters, Carol Perkins Alteri, Linda Drinkwine and her husband, Ron, and Karen Palmer and her husband, Buzz, all of Ticonderoga; her two sons, Richard (Dick) LaTour Sr. and his wife, Nancy, of Hague, and Gary LaTour of Ticonderoga; and her 13 grandchildren, Janine (Perkins) Belden, Michael Alteri, Matthew Drinkwine, Danielle (Drinkwine) Lobdell, Lucas Drinkwine, Shana Palmer, Andrew Palmer, Michael Streeter, Tammy (Streeter) Flint, Richard LaTour Jr., Tara (LaTour) Vise, John LaTour, and Kristi LaTour. She is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Wilcox and Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. William G. Muench, pastor, will officiate.

The Rite of Committal will take place at the family plot of St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery of Ticonderoga in the spring.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Ticonderoga Emergency Squad, 8 Depot St., Ticonderoga, NY 12883.

Alvera M. Fortune

SARANAC LAKE — Alvera M. Fortune, 88, of 20 Church St., Saranac Lake, died Friday, March 5, 2005, at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in Quincy, Mass., on April 5, 1916, she was the daughter of Dionisius and Marcelina (Fernandez) Diego.

Alvera’s parents emigrated from Santander, Spain, to America. She was very proud of her Spanish heritage. Alvera had been a resident of Saranac Lake for most of her life, but grew up in Northfield, Vt. She was a graduate of Northfield High School and attended the University of Vermont. Alvera enjoyed her work with the St. Bernard’s School Mothers’ Club and was a Cub Scout den mother. She was well known for her cooking and baking, especially cookies. Alvera was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and her life was centered around her family.

She is survived by her husband, Andrew, of Saranac Lake, whom she married Nov. 21, 1943 in Northfield, Vt.; two sons, Andrew J. Fortune Jr. and his wife, Ruth, of Saranac Lake, and Timothy J. Fortune and his wife, Diana, of Bloomingdale; three grandchildren, Christopher A. Fortune of Saranac Lake, Timothy R. Fortune of Tupper Lake and Ann E. Fortune of Saranac Lake; one sister, Anita Oddy of Chesapeake, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Dionisius Diego; her mother, Marcelina Fernandez Diego; her brother, John Diego; and her sister, Aurora Gillespie.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Bible Vigil will be held at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Church with the Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer, the Rev. Patrick O’Reilly and Monsignor C. J. McAvoy officiating. Burial will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery in Saranac Lake in May.

Friends wishing to remember Alvera may make memorial contributions to Uihlein Mercy Center in care of the funeral home.

LUELLA GRACE LaPOINT, 83, of Blow Road, Brainardsville, died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, after a long illness.

Born in Ellenburg Depot on July 8, 1921, she was the daughter of Horace and Sadie (McDonald) Begor.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Chateaugay Funeral Home with the Rev. Derek Trudell of Burke United Methodist Church officiating.

Spring burial will take place at Brainardsville Cemetery, Brainardsville.

EVELYN FRANKLIN, 85, of Wheeler Avenue, Malone, died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone.

Born in Chateaugay on Jan. 24, 1920, she was the daughter of Thomas and Nettie (Glover) Franklin.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will take place in the spring.

Spring burial will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Chateaugay.

Arrangements are with the Chateaugay Funeral Home.

DONA J. REOME, 83, of Gran View Drive, Westville, died at Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone Saturday, March 5, 2005.

Born in Malone on Aug. 16, 1921, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Mamie (Perry) Reome.

Calling hours will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Fatima Church in Westville. Burial will be in St. John Bosco Cemetery, Malone, in the spring.
