Published: 2/17/05Julia B. HealeyNEW IPSWICH, N.H. — Julia B. Healey, 77, of Turnpike Road, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at the Harborside Pheasant Wood in Peterborough, N.H. She was born in Lyon Mountain, N.Y. on April 4, 1927, the daughter of William R. and Rose (Primeau) Garrow. She had resided in Lyon Mountain until moving to New Ipswich in 1989 to be with her daughter. She was a 1944 graduate of Lyon Mountain High School and a former member of Sorrell-Woodward Legion Post 1620 Women’s Auxiliary. A private person, Julia was a dedicated homemaker who enjoyed her family as well as reading, working in her yard and especially her cat, Cobweb. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry J. Healey in 1982; a son, John H. Healey in 2002; five siblings, William R. Garrow Jr., Leona Vidol, Richard Garrow, Louis Garrow and Francis Garrow; and a son-in-law, David C. Lee. She is survived by a daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Lee of New Ipswich, N.H.; three granddaughters, Jessica Healey of Rouses Point, N.Y., Lori Healey of Dayton, Ohio, and Rebecca Lee of New Ipswich; three sisters, Lillian Gregory of Ellenburg Depot, Hazel Marie Bingel of Lyon Mountain and Mrs. Maynard (Margaret) Provost of Plattsburgh; a brother-in-law, William C. Healey of Malone; a sister-in-law, Mrs. James (Helen) Dowd of Chateaugay Lake; and many special nieces and nephews. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at St. Bernard’s Church, Lyon Mountain, N.Y., at a time to be announced in June. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the charity of one’s choice. The Fournier Funeral Home, 12 High Street in Greenville, N.H. is assisting the family with arrangements. Donald Martin SchaberRIO RANCHO, N.M. — Donald Martin Schaber, 74, died of respiratory failure, 9:43 a.m., Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at West Mesa Medical Center, after being admitted to the hospital on Feb. 2, 2005. He recently relocated to Rio Rancho, N.M., after many visits to the area. He was born in Theresa, N.Y., on Sept. 21, 1930, the son of the late Martin and Alma (Decker) Schaber. He was a 1950, graduate of LaFargeville Central High School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1954 as a security policeman. He married Shirley Delles on Nov. 11, 1955, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Evans Mills, N.Y. Throughout his military career he served in Texas, Montana, New York, Canada and Vietnam. He retired at Plattsburgh Air Force Base, as a master sergeant in 1974. He then worked 18 years at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital as an engineer and ambulance driver, where he retired in 1992. He was a member of the Plattsburgh American Legion Post 20, the American Military Retirees Association, the Society of the Strategic Air Command and the Air Force Security Police Association. In addition, he was also a member of the Sampson Air Force Base Veterans Association, where an article he had written detailing his 20 year career, was published. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Shirley (Delles); five children, Sherry Roy and husband Dave of Schoharie, N.Y., Wade and wife Lenora of Frederick, Md., Myrna Thomas and husband Gary of Hainesport, N.J., Grant and wife Christina of Rio Rancho, N.M., and Reba Schaber of Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers, Marvin of LaFargeville, N.Y., and Terrence of Clayton, N.Y.; ten grandchildren, Joseph Schaber, Lori Roy, Joshua Schaber, Stephen Roy, Michael Schaber, Connor Thomas, Chase Thomas, Vicente Limon, Holly Limon, Asia Orlando; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Thursday and Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., with the rosary being recited at 7 p.m. on Friday in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Road at Meadowlark Lane Rio Rancho. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Rio Rancho. Interment will follow in Vista Verde Memorial Park with military honors presented by the United States Air Force Honor Guard. Frederick C. Merkel, 81, of State Route 37, Westville, N.Y., died early Wednesday morning, Feb. 16, 2005, at the Alice Hyde Nursing Home in Malone, N.Y. He had been a resident there since May 16, 2003. Born in Queens, N.Y., Jan. 11, 1924, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Burger Merkel, There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family, Burial will be in the National Veterans Cemetery in Saratoga, N.Y. Arrangements are through the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service, Inc. of Malone. Rawland E. Bebo — A non-denominational memorial service presented by family and friends for Rawland E. Bebo, who passed away Jan. 28, 2005, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday from St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. The local Marine Corps Color Guard will be present. Eulogies will be delivered by family, Marine comrades and P.S.U. coaching staff. All are invited to a reception that will follow at St. Peter's School cafeteria. Burial will be in the family plot in Whitehall in the spring. The O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh is in charge of arrangements. |
