Gerald H. Rabideau Sr.

STANDISH — Gerald H. "Smokey" Rabideau Sr., 78, passed away Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born Sept. 2, 1926, in AuSable Forks, the son of Henry and Roseanne (Gero) Rabideau.

On Sept. 9, 1948, he married Lucretia (Pat) Hewston. They had 52 years together until her death June 7, 2001.

He served in the U.S. Army B BTRY 74th Field Artillery in the Philippines during World War II. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

Gerald was a retired member of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Local 1042, the Saranac American Legion Post 1618, the Peru Memorial VFW Post 309 and St. Peter's Swamp Mavericks hunting camp, which he founded and helped build.

He is survived by his four children, Linda and Donald Dupraw of Redford, Gerald Jr. (Mike) and Theresa Rabideau of Saranac, Rose (Bridget) and Mike Burleigh of Saranac and Shawn Rabideau of Standish; nine grandchildren, Donnie (Tina), Jarod (Bobbi) and Jesse Dupraw, Chad (Geta), Jason (Candy) and Jessica (Jason) Rabideau, Missy (George), Brittany (Kevin) and Brady Burleigh; four great-grand-children, Erica and Cody Dupraw, Jason Rabideau Jr. and Eden Rose Christian; and an unborn great-granddaughter due in June; two sisters, Dorothy LaDuke and Theresa Agoney of Standish; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Lillian Rabideau of Standish, Gertrude Mills of Clifton Park, Lotti and John Ryan of AuSable Forks and Adrian Smart of Lyon Mountain. Many special nieces, nephews, cousins and very special friends, Gilbert Miller and Dickie Bruce.

He was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Loretta Smart and Eva LaRock; his brother, Richard Rabideau.

There will be no calling hours. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain, with Monsignor Bernard Christman officiating. A reception will follow the Mass at the Lyon Mountain American Legion.

Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country or the Saranac American Legion Post 1618.

Arrangements are with the Chateaugay Funeral Home.

Frederick J. Adams Jr., 92, of Gilmore Lane, Plattsburgh, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center with his family by his side.

He was born in Peru, N.Y., on Jan. 16, 1923, the son of Frederick J. and Ellen (Bond) Adams Sr.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
