Marjorie Mae Hathaway Oliver

Altamont, N.Y. — Marjorie Mae Hathaway Oliver, 96, of Willsboro, N.Y., died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at the home of her son Jerald in Altamont, N.Y.

She was born on Sept. 8, 1908, in Willsboro, the daughter of the late Jessley Hathaway and Bertha (Curran) Hathaway. She was married to Gilbert Frazier Oliver on Sept. 8, 1926.

A lifetime resident of Willsboro, in later years she spent the winters in Florida and summers in New York. She was a member of the Willsboro United Methodist Church and St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of Largo, Fla. She also attended the Eastern Parkway United Methodist Church in Schenectady, N.Y.

She is survived by her son, Jerald Oliver of Altamont, N.Y.; her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Frank Tennian of Clearwater, Fla.; two grandsons, David and Michael Tennian; three granddaughters, Cindy Boliver, Cristy Lind and Kim Bryant; a sister and brother-in-law, Donald and Florence Hathaway; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gilbert, on March 11, 1979; a son, Vernon, on July 29, 1957; a son, Donald, on May 2, 1992; and a brother, Harold, on Nov. 27, 1967.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service and spring burial will be in Willsboro.

William C. Twaddle

Chateaugay — William C. Twaddle, 85, of the LaCount Road, Chateaugay, died Feb. 3, 2005, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center, Malone, N.Y.

Born in North Burke, N.Y., on Sept. 12, 1919, he was the son of William and Carrie (Wilson) Twaddle.

He was married to Grace Lunderman on June 30, 1940, in Ledyard, N.Y., by Rev. V.A. Martin. She predeceased him on Sept. 30, 2002.

Mr. Twaddle is survived by a daughter, Sharon Nemier of Chateaugay, N.Y.; a niece, Jo Ellen Saumier Selkirk of Chateaugay, N.Y.; four grandsons, William Nemier and his wife Melissa of Burke, N.Y., Matthew Nemier and his companion Erica Trombley of Chateaugay, N.Y., Douglas Nemier and his wife Debbie of Chateaugay, N.Y., and Jack Nemier and his wife Judy of Vorheesville, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Patsy Nemier of Tampa, Fla.; six great-grandchildren, Megan, Kelsey, Nicolas, Brody, Anna and Max Nemier.

Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his parents; a son in infancy, William Frank Twaddle; two brothers, Robert and Frances Twaddle; and two sisters, Marian Twaddle and Genevieve Saumier.

Mr. Twaddle graduated from Chateaugay High School in 1935 and Cornell University in 1939. He taught vocational agriculture at Brier Hill and Morrisontown, N.Y. He farmed the home farm in Burke for 18 years and after selling the farm in 1963, he operated the Surge Dairy Equipment business in Chateaugay for 21 years, covering all of Franklin County and the towns of Clinton and Ellenburg in Clinton County.

He was a member of Brier Hill, Morristown and Chateaugay Volunteer Fire Departments for a combined total of 36 years in the fire service. He served as chief of the Brier Hill and Chateaugay Fire Departments and as assistant chief in Chateaugay. Mr. Twaddle was also a member of the Firemen’s Assoc. of the State of NY for 30 years, the Northern NY Volunteer Firemen’s Assoc. for 35 years, the Franklin County Fire Chiefs Assoc., where he served as chairman for one term. He was also a member of the Franklin County Advisory Board where he served as chairman for one term and as secretary.

Mr. Twaddle was president and director of the North Burke Cemetery Assoc. and member of the North Burke Presbyterian Church in childhood. He served as Extension Committeeman for North Burke for a number of years and was president of the association for one term. He was an over 50-year member of the Franklin County Extension service.

He served on the town boards of both Burke and Chateaugay, served 12 years on the town of Chateaugay and as justice of the peace in Burke for one term. He also served as supervisor of the town of Chateaugay for one term.

He was appointed code enforcement officer for nine towns in northern Franklin County for two years, when building codes were first introduced. He served five years as the code officer for the town and village of Chateaugay and served on the Farm and Home Administration board for a term of three years in Franklin County.

Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Saturday, Feb. 5th, from 1 to 3 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Kevin Clancy officiating.

Spring burial will take place at North Burke Cemetery, North Burke.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Chateaugay Fire Dept., Burke Fire Dept., Alice Hyde Medical Center or North Burke Cemetery Assoc.

Etta DeCelle

Plattsburgh — Mrs. Etta DeCelle, 71, of the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility and formerly of Chazy, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility in Plattsburgh. She was born in Lake Clear on May 12, 1933, daughter of the late Clayton and Violet (Donaldson) McLean.

Etta was a resident of the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility for many years where they provided both care and much love. Her two loves in life were children and animals.

Etta is survived by one daughter, Virginia "Ginny" Smith and her husband Gary of West Chazy; one sister, Elsie McKee of Peru; two granddaughters, Kari Scott and her husband Charles of Point Au Roche and Sarah Smith and her fiancé Peter Tripi of Plattsburgh; three great-granddaughters, Avery Scott, Olivia Scott and Abby Scott; and several nieces and nephews.

Etta is predeceased by her husband, Albert DeCelle; three brothers, Alvin, Charles and Vernon; and one sister, Eleanor.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at 10 a.m. from Sacred Heart Church in Chazy. Burial will be later in the year in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Adirondack Humane Society or the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility Patient Activity Fund.

Harriette Marie Spinks Melendez

Gainesville, Fla. — Harriette Marie Spinks Melendez, 71, died at Palm Garden of Gainesville, Fla., on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005.

Mrs. Melendez was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and she and her husband owned and operated an import/export business called Casareyito Company for many years before moving to Gainesville in 1959.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Antonio Melendez.

Survivors are two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Melendez and Stephen D. Jensen of Alachua, Fla., and Bonnie Lee Melendez and Tim Huguley of Gainesville, Fla.; a son and daughter-in-law, Manuel Andrew "Manny" Melendez Spinks of Gainesville, Fla.; her grandchildren, Laurei Ann Harloff, Manuel R. Melendez, Christine Melendez, Amy Huguley, Julia and Andrew Jensen; and one great-grandchild, Lena Melendez; and a nephew, Wayne Spinks.

Services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Milam Funeral Home Chapel, 311 S. Main St., Gainesville, Fla. (352) 376-5361.

Leah Crammond Murray

Siloam Springs, Ark. — Leah Crammond Murray, 83, a resident of Siloam Springs, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital, following a short illness.

Mrs. Murray was born in Ticonderoga, N.Y., to John and Jenny (Untiedt) Crammond.

She was a graduate of Ticonderoga High School and was retired from the International Paper Company’s Ticonderoga mill. She was a member of the Quarter Century Club of International Paper.

Besides her parents, Mrs. Murray was predeceased by her husband, William Murray; four brothers, John and Allan Crammond of Ticonderoga, Peter Crammond of Rome, N.Y., and Donald Crammond of Mobile, Ala. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Norma Hampel of Dothan, Ala., and Doris Vantine of St. Petersburg, Fla.

She is survived by four daughters, Cindy and her husband Dale Dodge of The Villages, Fla., Deborah and her husband Dennis Inge of Sprague, Wash., Mary and her husband Lonnie Booth of Siloam Springs, Ark., and Patty Williams of Bascom, Fla.; a special daughter, Sharon and her husband Michael Miller of Chula Vista, Calif., and a special son, Larry Nesbit of Morganton, N.C.; 19 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Murray is also survived by a sister, Elizabeth and her husband John Bougor of Bridgeport, N.Y.; two brothers, Lawrence Crammond and his wife Dorcey of Ticonderoga, N.Y., and Gerald Crammond and his wife Jane of Silver Bay, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no calling hours or memorial service. A committal service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Ruth B. Gabershek, 80, of Cumberland Head Road, Plattsburgh, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center.

She was born on Long Island in Glendale, N.Y., on Jan. 7, 1925, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Hefler) Jaedike.

There will be no public calling hours or funeral services. Graveside services will take place in the spring in Riverview Cemetery in Chazy.

The R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh is in charge of arrangements.
