Donald Francis Chamberlain

Cadyville — Donald Francis Chamberlain, 71, of Goddeau Road, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh on June 26, 1933, son of Francis and Marie (White) Chamberlain.

Donald was a graduate of Peru School in 1952. He had been employed as a correction officer at Clinton Correctional Facility since 1955 until his retirement. Donald was a member of the Dannemora Riding Club and the American Quarter Horse Association; he and his wife, Janet, were well-known for training and trading quarter horses in northern New York.

Donald is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela J. and Robert J. Robart of Cadyville; their children, Donald Robart and his wife Jennifer of Wilmington, Del., Chad Robart of Cadyville; a nephew, Dana Wright, who was raised as a son and his three daughters, Alyce Wright, Cassandra Wright and Katrina Wright; a great-grandson, Zachary Robart; a brother, Leo Chamberlain of Plattsburgh; two sisters, Joyce Bruno and her husband Clarence of Hudson Falls and Judy Gromer and her husband Phillip of Carmel; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Kate White of Averill Park; and several nieces and nephews.

Donald was predeceased by his wife, Janet, in 1984; and a brother, Kenneth Chamberlain.

Calling hours will be Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Cadyville. A funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. with Rev. William Reamer, Catholic chaplain at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, officiating.

Burial will be later in the year in St. Augustine’s Cemetery in Peru.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Donald’s memory to the Peru Volunteer Fire Department or to the Cadyville Volunteer Fire Department.

Duane E. Gillespie

Elizabethtown — Duane E. Gillespie, 71, of Route 9, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital. He was born June 6, 1933, in Margaretville, N.Y., the son of Donald and Dorothy (Sanford) Gillespie.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Shaner) Gillespie of Elizabethtown; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rorey and Karen Gillespie of Lamar, Colo., and Keith and Marcia Gillespie of Princeton, N.J.; three grandchildren, Nathaniel Allen Gillespie of LaJunta, Colo., Hilah Rebecca Gillespie of Lamar, Colo., and Jonathan Francis Gillespie of Princeton, N.J.

Duane grew up in Margaretville, N.Y., and before moving to Elizabethtown, he lived in Moses Lake, Wash., Walden, N.Y., Denver, Colo., East Aurora, N.Y., and New Russia, N.Y. Duane taught for many years at the Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School.

No calling hours will be held. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12th, at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Christ in Elizabethtown.

Theodore J. Troskowski

Albany and AuSable Forks — Theodore J. Troskowski, 87, formerly of Albany and AuSable Forks, N.Y., died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, at Resurrection Rest Home in Castleton, N.Y.

Mr. Troskowski was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late Ksewery and Josefa (Kuszela) Troskowski.

He had lived in Albany for many years before moving to AuSable Forks in 1983, after retiring from John Hancock Insurance Co., where he had been employed as an insurance agent for many years.

Mr. Troskowski was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a member of the AuSable Forks American Legion Post 540 and the Polish Community Center in Albany.

Mr. Troskowski was predeceased by his wife, Nelsina Margaret Troskowski.

Survivors include a son, Richard J. Troskowski of East Schodack; four daughters, Sister Carol Marie Troskowski of Parish Visitors, Monroe, N.Y., Linda Miller of Dalton, Mass., Nancy Bryant of Baltimore, Md., and Pamela Laverty of Albany; a sister, Dottie Rawson of Richmond, Mass.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral from the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St., Nassau, will be held on Monday at 9:30 a.m. and at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Nassau, where the Mass of Christian burial will be offered.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Spring interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, AuSable Forks, N.Y.

Bettie A. Gray

Boardman, Ohio — Private memorial services will be held Saturday for Bettie A. Gray, 84, of Boardman, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at the Greenbriar Nursing Home. Prior to her care at the Greenbriar, she had been living at the Commons in Boardman.

She was born Nov. 8, 1920, in Hollywood, Calif., the daughter of Charles Howard and Lula (Dawkins) Arnold.

Bettie was raised in Pittsburgh and graduated from Dormont High School. She worked at Mellon Bank as a teller until she married Bert Gray on Dec. 20, 1940, at which time she became a full-time mother and housewife. Her husband would admit much of his business success was due to their joint effort. Bettie’s interests included entertaining, interior decorating, sewing and bridge.

She is predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Joseph Herbert; her son, Richard Preston; her parents; and two brothers, Charles Arnold and Gordon Arnold.

Bettie is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Sharon and George Berlin of Canfield, Ohio, and Jennifer and Alan Booth of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; also three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512.

Davis Funeral, Youngstown, Ohio, is handling the arrangements.

Daniel Proietti

Crown Point — Daniel Proietti, 72, moved on to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005. He was the son of Thomas and Elvira Proietti; born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on May 5, 1932.

He was a U.S. Marine, Private 1st Class and a Korean War Veteran, 1951-1954, and the husband of Jean Cella for 52 years. He retired from International Paper Company after 17 years and was a devoted father of 10 children; he was a faithful Christian for 26 years and active member of Crossroads Full Gospel Church, Crown Point, N.Y. He was a loyal New York Mets baseball and New York Jets football fan; hobbies included camping, fishing and model train collector.

Survived by wife Jean of Crown Point, N.Y.; daughter Patricia of Warrensburg, N.Y., daughter Pamela and husband Douglas Woods of Crown Point, N.Y., son Daniel and wife Shellie of Monticello, Fla., son David and wife Cynthia of Oswego, N.Y., daughter Elizabeth and husband John Millington of Diamond Point, N.Y., son Matthew and wife Angelika of Crown Point, N.Y., son Douglas and wife Nong of East Rochester, N.Y., daughter Nancy and husband Billy Millington of Crown Point, N.Y., daughter Barbara and fiancé Jeramie Savage of Crown Point, N.Y., and daughter Jennifer and husband William Cook of Hudson Falls, N.Y.; 29 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Susan J. Daniels

Newport, Va. — Susan J. Daniels, 44, of Newport, Va., died on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at her home on Bright Angel Farm. Born on June 4, 1960, in Bilbao, Spain, she was the daughter of the late Ellen Jackson Daniels of Hollywood, Md., and Daniel Hoyt Daniels of Beaufort, S.C.

Susan obtained her bachelor’s degree at the State University of New York, Plattsburgh, completed a field biology training program at the Manomet Bird Observatory in Manomet, Mass., in the spring of 1991 and obtained her master’s degree in biology at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Va., in 1997. Susan was a doctoral candidate in biology at Virginia Tech, planning to defend her thesis in the spring of 2005.

Susan was a respected conservation biologist who was known nationally for her work on endangered species in the southeastern United States. Susan worked with the United States Fish & Wildlife Service in Clemson, S.C., as a field technician and as the primary editor for the Red-cockaded Woodpecker Recovery Plan. She worked in the Biology Department of Virginia Tech for 10 years, where she worked in the capacity of crew leader, research assistant and data analyst, as well as teaching in the Ornithology Lab.

Susan served as a volunteer assistant at the Office of the Secretary Emeritus for the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C. Susan was a passionate activist who dedicated much of her time working toward improving environmental issues and social justice concerns worldwide.

Another passion of Susan’s was her love of horses and she spent as much of her spare time as possible enjoying her two horses, Sister and Sugar.

Susan is survived by her father, Daniel H. Daniels of Beaufort, S.C.; her four sisters, Ann Zinsser of Silver Spring, Md., Helen Daniels of Catonsville, Md., Cindi Freilinger of Canton, Conn., and Frances Culley of Pittsburgh, Pa.; her nieces, Tinica Mather and Jennifer Park, both of Silver Spring, Md., Deanna DeSanti of Canton, Conn., and Aleric and Hester Culley of Pittsburgh, Pa.; cousins Sam Jackson of Silver Spring, Md., and Bladen Jackson of Accokeek, Md.; and uncle Benjamin Lowndes Jackson III of Pompano Beach, Fla.

In addition to her mother, Ellen Jackson Daniels, two brothers, John Daniels and Daniel Daniels predeceased Susan.

Funeral services and burial will be conducted on Friday, Jan. 28, at 1 p.m., at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Rock Creek, Washington, D.C. A memorial service will be planned in Plattsburgh, N.Y., with details to be forthcoming.

Eileen Marie Harrand McEneany, 69, of 51 Willow Way, Saranac Lake, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, at Buckley Health Care Center. She was staying with her daughter in Massachusetts while recovering from a previous illness.

Born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., on May 29, 1935, she was the daughter of Adolph and Myrtle (Burns) Harrand.

Visitation will be held at Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Bible vigil will be said at 3:45 p.m. on Sunday. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday at 11:15 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Church with Rev. Thomas Kommeyer officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery, Saranac Lake, in May.

Theresa Irene Decker, 76, died on Jan. 18, 2005, at the Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in the spring at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are with the Collins Clarke Funeral Home, Pointe Claire, Quebec.
