Roseanne Defayette

Plattsburgh — Roseanne Defayette, 62, of Plattsburgh, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Plattsburgh on June 30, 1942, the daughter of Edward A. and Catherine G. (Gagne) Rood.

She graduated from D’Youville Academy and OLVA Secretarial School and was employed as a dietitian at CVPH Medical Center for many years. She was a member of the Moose Lodge Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Defayette of Plattsburgh; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Ruth Ann Rood of Montpelier, Vt., and James and Linda Rood of Plattsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at a later date from Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery in the spring.

The O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh is in charge of arrangements.

Ross F. Carson

Willsboro — Ross F. Carson, 71, of 53 Lakeshore Road, Willsboro, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005.

He was born May 25, 1931, in Whallonsburg, N.Y., the son of Ben and Mary Molly (Tracy) Carson.

Rossy was a veteran of the Korean War and was self-employed as a logger for many years. He especially enjoyed being with family and friends.

He is survived by Eleanor (Calkins) Carson, his wife of 48 years; one daughter, Lorri Shepard; and three sons, Mike, Don and Pete, all of Willsboro; five grandchildren, Michael and Josh Carson, Katie and Alex Shepard and Ashley Carson, all of Willsboro; several brothers and sisters, Robert and Wilda Carson of Essex, Ruth Hall of Winsted, Conn., Martha Cornwright of Westport, Irene Cross of Lewis, Elizabeth and Raymond Cross of Lewis, Marjorie Coonrod of Whallonsburgh and Anthony and Ellen Carson of Willsboro and Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by one son, Benjamin Carson; a sister, Vergey Benway; and two brothers, Benjamin Carson II and Patrick Carson.

There will be a memorial service Friday, Jan. 21st, at 11 a.m. at St. Philip’s Church in Willsboro.

W.M. Marvins Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown is in charge of arrangements.

Marie Gengenbach

Keeseville — Mrs. Marie Gengenbach, 87, of Keeseville, N.Y., passed away Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005. She was cared for by her loving son, Daniel C. Gengenbach, at 170 Ausable Street, Keeseville, N.Y., until five months ago, when she then received excellent supportive care from Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh, N.Y. Prior to living with her son, she resided at Apple Valley Senior Housing in Peru, N.Y., for 11 years.

She was born in Yonkers, N.Y., on Aug. 30, 1917, the youngest daughter of seven children, to Daniel and Julia (Dzamba) Ridzik.

As a young woman, Marie worked as a seamstress for Bloomingdale's, Sak's 5th Avenue and at a bakery in Yonkers, while she provided care for her father. During World War II, she was a sales clerk in Texas. She married Charles Edward Gengenbach II on Sept. 13, 1946. They resided at 137 16th Street, Verplanck, N.Y., for many years.

During that time she provided homecare for her mother and also worked briefly as a cook at Hendrick Hudson High School in Montrose, N.Y. Marie and her husband, Ed, moved to the North Country in 1982 to be near her son and his family. During her mother-in-law and her husband's illnesses, she provided loving care at home. She will mostly be remembered as a skilled homemaker, excellent cook and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Marie was a long standing member of St. Augustine's Church in Peru and later at St. John the Baptist Church of Keeseville. She was a supporter of St. Augustine's School and many other charitable causes. She also was a member of Dottie and the Golden Notes and the Golden Apple Club. She enjoyed many afternoons in the gazebo with the ladies of Apple Valley.

Marie was predeceased by her husband Ed; her son, Charles Edward Gengenbach III; her parents; one brother and his wife, Johnny and Anne Ridzik; two sisters and their husbands, Anna and Rudy Krueger and Helen and Leslie Chontos; and one brother-in-law, Anthony Zanzerella.

She is survived by one son, Dan; one sister and two brothers, Julia Zanzerella, Emil Ridzik and Steve Ridzik and his wife Nancy, all of Florida; three grandchildren, Dodd Gengenbach and his wife Paige of Memphis, Tenn., Colleen LeClair and her husband Mike of Keeseville, N.Y., and Daniel M. Gengenbach of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; three great-grandchildren, Brooks, Joe and Megan; two former daughters-in-law, Donna Gengenbach and Sharon Carey and her daughter Erika Kelsey; a unique relationship with her nephews, Jeffrey Strang and Chip Ridzik; and many other special nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home at 170 Kings Ferry Road in Montrose, N.Y.

Funeral services will be on Thursday morning at St. Patrick's Church in Verplanck, N.Y., with Christian burial following in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held at St. John the Baptist Church in Keeseville, N.Y., on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at 10 a.m.

The family asks that memorial donations be made in Marie's name to a charity of your choice.

Leonard Amlaw

Wilton — Leonard Amlaw, 82, of Wilton, N.Y., passed away peacefully in his sleep on Jan. 16, 2005.

He was born in 1922 in Ellenburg, N.Y., the son of the late Joseph and Delia (Bouvia) Amlaw.

He was a purple heart recipient of World War II.

Leonard attended Syracuse University and Champlain College. At Albany State University, he received his bachelor’s degree in business education in 1950 and a master’s degree in administration in 1958. Mr. Amlaw taught at Hudson Falls High School from 1950 to 1954. He then served as the business education department chairperson and administrative assistant at Guilderland High School. In 1956, he was named the Business Education Teacher of the Year.

In 1957, he became the first business education department chairman at Niskayuna High School. He went on to become an administrative assistant and assistant principal at Niskayuna High School until 1965. During his time at Niskayuna, he also taught business education classes on educational WRGB. In 1965, he was appointed principal of the Shenendehowa High School. He chaired the committee to build a new high school presently known as East High School, which opened in 1970. He retired from the profession in 1979 and went on to work for the ARC in their business office.

Mr. Amlaw was a member of the Presbyterian New England Congregational Church in Saratoga Springs and headed the building committee for the current church located on Circular Street.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lois A. Amlaw of Gansevoort; his two daughters, Lynne Lindquist of Ballston Spa and Jennifer TenEyck of Scotia; and his son, Bruce Amlaw of Seffner, Fla. He greatly enjoyed his five grandchildren.

Interment with military honors will be private at the convenience of the family at the Saratoga National Cemetery. A memorial service is planned for later in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Amlaw Educational Fund, to become part of the Endowment Fund of the Presbyterian Church, 24 Circular Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. This fund will assist an individual pursuing a degree in education.

Patricia Geoghegan, 65, of Soper Road, Keeseville, N.Y., died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at CVPH in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Southhampton, N.Y., Nov. 21, 1939, the daughter of William and Mary (Callahan) Seely.

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family in the spring.
