Sylvia M. LaPierre

MORRISONVILLE — Sylvia M. LaPierre, 89, of LaPierre Lane, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at Strong Memorial Hospital’s Burn Center in Rochester.

She was born on Dec. 26, 1915, in Morrisonville, the daughter of Dora (Dashnaw) Breyette and Oril Breyette.

On June 22, 1935, she married Lawrence LaPierre at St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville.

Sylvia was a cosmetologist and had a hair salon in her home from the 1960s to the 1980s. She was a member of St. Alexander’s Church and an active member of the Morrisonville community as a former leader of a teen group and a Girl Scout troop leader. In her later years, she was a staunch advocate to keep the berm along the Saranac River to protect the nearby homes from flooding.

She is survived by one son, Larry LaPierre of Albuquerque, N.M.; two daughters, Joanne LaPierre-Beardsley of Honeoye Falls, N.Y., and Judi LaPierre of Morrisonville; six grandchildren, Michael, James and Stephanie LaPierre, Matthew and Marissa Dandrow, and Lindsay Dandrow-Pellerin; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Pascal of Peru and Bernadette Carpentier of Cadyville; and one sister-in-law, Doris Breyette of Albany. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Lawrence; three children: Michael, Peter and Maryanne; a brother, Oril Breyette Jr.; and one sister, Veleda Yopp.

Following Sylvia’s wishes, cremation took place at the Halloran Henry D. & Sons Inc. Funeral Home in West Henrietta, N.Y.

A memorial Mass will be held at St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville at 11 a.m. Friday.

Burial will take place at a later date in the parish cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Morrisonville Ambulance Squad.

Sister Marie Paule Beauregard

FALL RIVER, Mass. — Sister Marie Paule Beauregard, OP, a.k.a. Sister Mary of the Eucharist, age 97, of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, Fall River, Mass., died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at St. Anne’s Hospital, Fall River, Mass.

Born in St. Dominique, Quebec, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Emile Beauregard and the late Olivine (Langevin) Beauregard.

Sister Marie Paul entered the Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena in Fall River in December 1930, made first profession of vows in July 1932 and final profession in July 1936. She received her bachelor’s degree in humanities and modern language from Providence College.

Sister Marie Paule began her teaching ministry as an elementary teacher at St. Anne’s School, Fall River, from 1929 to 1937. She then moved to Plattsburgh, where she taught at St. Peter’s Elementary School and was in charge of the boarders from 1937 to 1939. She returned to Massachusetts and was principal and teacher at St. Francis Xavier School in Acushnet from 1939 to 1941. From 1941 to 1942, she served as an assistant principal at St. Anne’s School in Fall River. She returned to Plattsburgh, where she was assigned to St. Peter’s Elementary School from 1944 to 1945. Sister Marie Paul then moved to Acushnet, where she was a librarian and teacher at St. Francis Xavier School from 1945 to 1946. She then returned to St. Anne’s School in Fall River, where she taught from 1946 to 1964 and was principal through 1969. From 1969 to 1971, Sister Marie Paule taught French at Dominican Academy in Fall River and did private tutoring. She was a cafeteria supervisor at Dominican Academy from 1971 to 1972. From 1972 to 2002, she was engaged in a variety of volunteer services at the Fall River convent. Sister Marie Paule loved to play the violin, was adept at needlework and enjoyed crossword puzzles.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Sister Marie Jeanne Beauregard, OP, of Fall River, Mass. She was also the sister of the late Armand Beauregard, Romeo Beauregard, Charles Emile Beauregard, Paul Emile Beauregard, Antonio Beauregard, Sister Jean de Verceil Beauregard, OP, and Marie Joseph Beauregard.

Sister Marie Paule’s funeral, which relatives and friends are invited to attend, will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at 10 a.m. from the Boule Funeral Home, 615 Broadway, Fall River, Mass.

It will be followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, So. Main St., Fall River, Mass. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Emma Lucy Wolf

PLATTSBURGH — Emma Lucy Wolf, 94, of Evergreen Valley Nursing Home, died on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at the Plattsburgh nursing home.

She was born in Brooklyn on March 23, 1910, daughter of John and Anna Stradhoff.

Emma had worked at Valhalla Unified School District until her retirement. She enjoyed her summers with her family at their summer house in the Finger Lakes.

She is survived by her granddaughter, Laurie Wood, of Norfolk, Va.; grandsons, Lawrence Wood of Beekmantown and Leonard Wood of Summerville, S.C.

Emma was predeceased by her mother and father, Anna and John Stradhoff of Brooklyn; her husband, John Phillip Wolf, a volunteer with Valhalla Fire Department for more than 40 years; daughter Lynn Maureen Wood of Peru; and a grandson, Florian Michael Wood.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Judy Pratt, pastor of First Baptist Church in Plattsburgh, officiating.

Burial will be Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, in Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, N.Y.

Donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.

LEON THOMAS PICKERING, 96, of Cedar Street, Tupper Lake, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2005, at the Mercy Health Care Center in Tupper Lake.

He was born Aug. 10, 1908, to Napoleon Joseph and Sophia (Antoine) Pickering.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the Richer Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. today at the funeral home with Patti Francisco officiating. Graveside services at Lakeview Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.

RICHARD A. SOULIA, 58, of 471 County Route 36, Burke, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

Born in Massena on Oct. 22, 1946, he was the son of the late Clarence and Oliva (King) Soulia.

There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are through the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service Inc. of Malone.

DANIEL PROIETTI, 72, of 258 Middle Road, Crown Point, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at the Moses-Ludington Hospital in Ticonderoga.

He was born Mary 5, 1932, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Thomas and Elvira (Giangola) Proietti.

A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Crown Point Bible Church on Creek Road in Crown Point.

The Harland Funeral Home of Port Henry is in charge of arrangements.
