Published: 1/12/05Ann R. YanulavichEstero, Fla. — Ann R. Yanulavich passed away suddenly at her home in Estero, Fla., on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, at the age of 65. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Helen Bassett Yanulavich, formerly of Rensselaer, N.Y. She was employed as a manager with Fifth Avenue Executive Suites at the time of her death. Ann was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and raised in Lyon Mountain, N.Y., and Aurora, Colo. A graduate of Aurora High School, Ann had a long career and was a pioneer in airline customer relations since the boom of the industry in the middle 1950s. She began her career with Frontier Airlines, where she remained for over 20 years. After leaving Colorado, she also worked for a number of other airlines, including Air Atlanta, Air Florida and finally as national head of customer relations with Continental Airlines. Her talents were recognized worldwide in 1977 when she was elected president of the Worldwide Airline Customer Relations Association. Her work brought her to places all over the world and she frequently wrote of her travels in industry trade magazines. Ann left the airline industry briefly in 1986 to 1987 to work as Hackensack Medical Center’s first director of consumer affairs, breaking new ground in her field in that industry. In 1992, Ann joined The Psychological Corporation as director of customer service. After her retirement, she operated a ComputerU franchise in Estero, Fla., in partnership with her longtime friend and associate Sharon Gallaway. There she enjoyed teaching basic and intermediate computer skills to seniors. Ann’s happiest times were spent volunteering for the organizations she so passionately believed in. She spent many years as a tireless volunteer for the Zonta Club of Bonita Springs, an organization of woman executives in business and the professions working together, across political and social boundaries, to advance the status of women and children worldwide. Most recently, she proudly served as co-wing leader of the Southwest Florida Wing of Angel Flight Southeast. Angel Flight Southeast is a non-profit organization arranging free air transportation to and from treatment facilities for those with medical needs who are financially distressed or unable to travel on public transportation. Angel Flight pilots fly transplant, compassionate care, disaster relief missions and others. Ann was committed to continuing Angel Flight's mission of eliminating transportation as an obstacle to receiving medical or humanitarian care. In addition to her parents; brothers, Thomas, William and James predeceased Ann. She is survived by her dear sister, Mary M. (Thomas) Favreau of Waterford, N.Y.; and beloved brothers, Robert J. (Shirley) Yanulavich of Madison, Ala., and Joseph M. (Debra) Yanulavich of Troy, N.Y. She is survived by 12 nieces and nephews, Nancy Vilander, Kevin Yanulavich, Robert Yanulavich Jr., Keely Peck, Sarah Yanulavich, Jennifer Yanulavich, James Yanulavich Jr., Jessica Yanulavich, Michael Yanulavich, Kristin Favreau, Aimee Favreau and John Favreau. Memorial services will be held on Friday at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Waterford where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Rensselaer, N.Y. Thomas Rabideau Jr.Plattsburgh — F. Thomas Rabideau Jr., died unexpectedly at his residence sometime Friday evening or in the early morning hours on Saturday. He was born in Plattsburgh on Sept. 30, 1950, the son of Francis Thomas Rabideau Sr. and Elizabeth (Betty) Rabideau. He owned and operated Corporate Mail Services in Rouses Point for about 25 years. He had an avid interest in finances and politics and enjoyed participating in lively discussions on these topics with his friends and peers. He felt a deep connection to his family and spoke frequently to his nieces about life and the values they should exhibit as individuals, we will miss him for what he brought to our lives. Tom attended Potsdam, Clinton Community College and SUNY at Plattsburgh, he was a student of life. Two sisters, Rosemary A. Faille of Rouses Point, N.Y., and Ms. Luanne Bombardier of Champlain; and one brother, Ronald Rabideau of Underhill Center, Vt., survive him. He has four nieces, Chrissy, Jessica, Lorrielle and Sieanna, who will always remember his kindness and supportive words. Calling hours will be at the Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at Saint Patrick's Church in Rouses Point at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery this spring. Beverly J. SolanoRichmondville, N.Y. — Beverly J. Solano, 61, passed away Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, at her residence. She was born Aug. 6, 1943, in Cooperstown, N.Y., the daughter of Hartley and Alberta (Kilts) Strong. Beverly was an office manager at ACT in Schenectady, N.Y. She was a Richmondville area resident for the past 14 years and was previously from Mooers Forks, N.Y. Beverly enjoyed her children, traveling and camping with her nephews. She is survived by her companion, Richard Sawyer; four children, Connie and her husband Charles Best, Jim Solano, Christina and her husband Scott Herman and Joseph Solano; three grandchildren, Corey Trombley, Max Best and Hunter Riley; two sisters, Shirley Raney and Sandra Hoffman; two brothers; Charles and Bob Strong; many nieces and nephews; her companion’s two son’s, Richard and Paul Sawyer and their families; and her dog, Rebel. There will be no calling hours or funeral service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in loving memory of Beverly to the Catskill Area Hospice, 327 W. Main Street, Cobleskill, NY 12043. Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main Street, Worcester, N.Y. Herman O. RoundsPlattsburgh — Herman O. Rounds, 89, of South Peru Street, Plattsburgh, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, at the Clinton County Nursing Home in Plattsburgh. He was born in Belmont, March 14, 1915, the son of Rudolphus and Hattie "Jock" Rounds. Herm began his employment at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora. Following retirement he owned and operated Rounds Restaurant in Peru for several years. He then drove school bus for Peru Central School. Herm was a member of the Keeseville Elks Lodge 2072, St. Augustine's Knights of Columbus 7273 and Bishop Wadhams 4th Degree Assembly of Plattsburgh. He enjoyed traveling, dancing, carpentry, hunting and fishing. Herm will always be remembered for his generosity and caring way. He was always willing to volunteer or lend a helping hand anyway he could. Survivors include his three beloved grandchildren, Dorothy and David Fuller of Plattsburgh, David "Clarence" Clary and fiancee Nicole Stone of Peru, and Glenda and Shawn Ryan of Morrisonville; six great-grandchildren, James and Clare Fuller, Jailynn and Lauryn Clary, Brendan Clary and Maeve Ryan; three stepgrandchildren, Sherrie and Dan Ballard of Malone, Debbie Meier and companion Tom Cringle of Dannemora and Bernard and Mary Clary of Canton, and their children; his longtime friend, Mildred Alco of Plattsburgh; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Brooks Rounds; daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Bernard Clary; a stepgreat-grandson, Jason Meier; two brothers, Leon and Leonard "Teddy"; and three sisters, Pansy LaBombard, Ferne Baker and Pearl Parent. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A vigil service will be held at 2 p.m. Members of the Keeseville Elks Lodge will meet for a 3 p.m. service. Members of the Knights of Columbus will meet for an 8 p.m. service. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church in Peru with Rev. Floyd J. Bleaux, pastor of Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh, celebrating. Burial will be in the spring in the Mount Carmel Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Donations in his memory may be made to the St. Augustine's Church or the St. Augustine's Knights of Columbus. Merilda J. DuncanPLATTSBURGH — Mrs. Merilda "Connie" J. Duncan, 71, of Harlan Drive, Plattsburgh passed away Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Plattsburgh on Oct. 18, 1933, the daughter of William and Merilda (Martin) Desotell. Merilda enjoyed knitting, crocheting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Robert Leonard Duncan; a daughter, Sonia Howard; two sons, William Duncan and Robert Lester Duncan. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, John and Buffy Duncan of Plattsburgh and Ronald Duncan of Springlake, N.C.; one daughter, Rhonda Jordon of Hueytown, Ala.; a daughter-in-law, Twila Duncan of Plattsburgh; four grandchildren, Katy Howard, Kayla Duncan, Karin Jordon and Andrea Jordon; three brothers, Robert Desautel of Keeseville, Raymond Desautel of El Paso, Texas, and Floyd Desotell of Keeseville; four sisters, Mary Ellen Daniels of Beekmantown, Arlen Bennefield of Cullman, Ala., Susan Woodman of Loudan, N.H., and Gloria Durivage of West Chazy; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Edward Salverson, officiating. KempCHAZY — Geraldine P. Kemp, 83, of Chazy and formerly of Lakeview Towers, peacefully entered into eternal rest, Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Conrad Bechard. She was born in Chazy on Aug. 29, 1921, the daughter of Victor and Louise (Gervais) Mooso. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Plattsburgh and a former member of Sacred Heart Church in Chazy. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother and friend who enjoyed time spent with her family and friends. She enjoyed playing shuffleboard and bingo with her many friends at Lakeview Towers. All who loved her, will miss Geraldine tremendously. She will forever live in our hearts. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest and Patricia Coulombe Jr. of Plattsburgh and Calvin and Karen Coulombe of Rouses Point; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Wayne Rascoe of Alburg, Vt., and Beverly and Conrad Bechard of Chazy; one brother and sister-in-law, Leeward and Jackie Mooso of Florida; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Veronica Wells of Chazy and Mary and Earl Labarge of Fort Edwards, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Geraldine was married to Ernest Coulombe on March 17, 1941, at St. Mary's Church in Champlain. He died on May 6, 1973. Her second husband, Thomas Kemp, died on March 12, 1998. Four brothers, Kenneth, Orville, Raymond and George; and one sister, Gladys LaPier, all predeceased her. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in the Whispering Maples Mausoleum on the Tom Miller Road in Plattsburgh. Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country. Rolland F. PhinneyNORWOOD — Rolland F. Phinney, 94, a resident of the Canton United Helpers Nursing Home since March 5, 2002, passes away on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at the nursing home. He was born in Wadhams, N.Y., on May 29, 1910, the son of Scott and Inez Pierce Phinney. He married Evelyn Donahue at St. Peter & Paul’s Church in Mineville on Oct. 26, 1946. He and Evelyn lived most of their married life on Sisco Street in Westport, N.Y., they moved to the Norwood-Norfolk area in 1999 to be closer to their family. She died on April 27, 2001. He was employed as a miner for Republic Steel in Mineville, N.Y., and later as a custodian for Westport Central School. He was a member of the VFW Post 6962 in Mineville and was a World War II Army veteran and served in the European Theater. Rolland is survived by a son-in-law, John P. Plonka of Norwood; two grandsons, Brian Plonka of Norwood and Christopher Plonka of Dolgeville, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Plonka on March 8, 2001; a granddaughter, Lisa Plonka who died on March 4, 1981; two brothers, Mervin and Logan Phinney; and by a sister, Elizabeth Gardner. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood with Rev. Monsignor Harry Snow, pastor of St. Andrew’s Church, officiating. Burial will be in Visitation Cemetery, Norfolk in the spring. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until the time of the funeral. Donations may be made to the Canton United Helpers Nursing Home Activity Fund. Valery D. Curtis, 59, of Marcy Road, Lake Placid, N.Y., died at her home Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005. She was born in New York City on Feb. 14, 2005, the daughter of Fred W. and Virginia (Eggman) Dieffenbach. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Eustace Episcopal Church in Lake Placid. Father Ray Bronk, Father Carlos Cagiat and Father Alan Macnab will officiate. The Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements. |
