Published: 1/5/05Rev. Eugene BeaudetWillsboro — The Rev. Eugene Beaudet, 77, a priest of the Diocese of Ogdensburg, died at his home in Willsboro, N.Y., on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004. Father Joseph Eugene Beaudet was born on July 10, 1927, at Ste. Sophie de Lévard, Quebec, the son of the late Donat and Marie-Louise (Pratte) Beaudet. Father Beaudet graduated from Newcomb Central High School in Newcomb, N.Y., and attended Wadhams Hall Seminary in Ogdensburg from 1945 to 1949. He completed theological studies at St. Mary's Seminary at Baltimore, Md., from 1949 until 1953. Father Beaudet was ordained a priest at St. Mary's Cathedral in Ogdensburg on May 30, 1953 by Bishop Bryan J. McEntegart Following his ordination, Father Beaudet was named Assistant Pastor at the Church of the Holy Name, Faust (Tupper Lake). He was transferred to the Church of the Assumption, Redford, later in 1953. In 1956, Father Beaudet became Assistant at Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. In 1958, he became Assistant Pastor of the Church of the Holy Family in Watertown. Father Beaudet first served as a pastor beginning in 1961 when he was assigned to St. Helen's Church in Chasm Falls. Ten years later he was appointed pastor of St. Mary's of the Fort Church in Fort Covington. In 1976, Father Beaudet was assigned to serve St. Mary's Church in Champlain. Father Beaudet’s next assignment as pastor was at St. Philip of Jesus Church in Willsboro and St. Joseph's Church in Essex where he began ministry in 1979. Father Beaudet’s final service was as pastor of St. Hubert’s Church in Star Lake, St. Anthony of Padua Church, Newton Falls and St. Michael’s Church, Fine, beginning in 1997. Father Beaudet retired from active ministry on June 26, 2002, and returned to take up residence outside the village of Willsboro. In addition to his dedicated service of the people of his parish communities, Father Beaudet was well known as an enthusiastic supporter of sports teams. While stationed in Watertown he was enthusiastic fan of the teams of lmmaculate Heart Academy. He was also well known as a life long ardent fan of the Montreal Canadians. Father Beaudet is survived by one brother, Joseph Maurice Beaudet of Queensbury, N.Y. In addition, he is survived by nephews, Ernest Beaudet, Roger Beaudet, Real Beaudet, Raymond Beaudet, Rene Beaudet, Claude Beaudet and Dean Beaudet. He is also survived by nieces, Marguerite Bubner, Denise Beaudet, Louise Beaudet, Cecile Krantz, Grace Snyde and Helen Henner. A Mass of Christian burial was held for Father Beaudet on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at St. Philip of Jesus Church in Willsboro, N.Y., at noon. The celebrant of the Mass was Monsignor Robert L. Lawler, Vicar General of the Diocese. The homilist was Father Alfred Fish. Father Beaudet's body was transferred to St. Philip of Jesus Church at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 29, with evening prayer celebrated with the reception of the body. Monsignor Peter R. Riani, Dean of Essex Deanery, served as celebrant of the evening prayer. Calling hours continued until 9 p.m. Burial will be in the spring at Calvary Cemetery in Willsboro. Edith M. AubreyRouses Point — Edith M. Aubrey, 85, of Rouses Point passed away Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at the Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point. She was born May 5, 1919, in Champlain, the daughter of the late John Barker. She is predeceased by her parents; her husband, Leo Aubrey; one daughter, Elizabeth Knapp; and several brothers and sisters. Edith is survived by two sons, Joseph Aubrey and his wife June of Rouses Point and Leo Aubrey of Plattsburgh; two daughters, Barbara Duteau and her husband Pierre of Havelock, Quebec, and Ellen Lovely and her husband Wallace of Comstock, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Church in Rouses Point. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edith's memory may be made to the American Red Cross. Alexander LandryChateaugay — Alexander "Al" Landry, 73, of White Street, Chateaugay, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at Alice Hyde Medical Center, Malone, N.Y. Born in Malone, N.Y., on Nov. 18, 1931, he was the son of George and Dora (Harvey) Landry. He was married to Patricia Mellon on Sept. 20, 1952, in St. Patrick's Church, Chateaugay. Mr. Landry is survived by his wife of 52 years; three sons; and two daughters-in-law, William and Maria Landry of Canandaigua, Kelly Landry and companion Margaret Maracle of Rochester and Scott and Penny Landry of Mitchell, Ind.; six grandchildren, Jason, Lindsey, Ashley, Linda, Shawn and Regina; five great-grandchildren, Leah, Brandie, Geoff, Madeline and Collin; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Glenda Landry of Malone, Larry and Karen Landry of California, Wayne and Helen Landry of Malone and Alfred and Colleen Landry of Malone; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Helen and Robert Tracy of Malone and Mary Landry of Malone. He was predeceased by his parents; and three brothers, Frank, Billy and Kenny Landry. Mr. Landry served in the U.S. Army from May 1952 to February 1954 and was honorably discharged. He was employed at General Motors in Massena as a forklift operator until his retirement in 1987. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, Knights of Columbus Third Degree and served as past Grand Knight. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be on Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, Chateaugay, with Rev. John Demo officiating. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are with the Chateaugay Funeral Home. Phyllis Raymond KarcherBallston Spa, N.Y. — Phyllis Raymond Karcher of Ballston Spa, N.Y., died on Jan. 3, 2005, at the Saratoga General Hospital. Phyllis was born in Brooklyn on June 22, 1918, the daughter of James Clinton Raymond and Teresa (Shubert) Raymond. She enjoyed working and living in the New York City area until her marriage to Hubert Karcher in 1950, when she also became the mother of two sons, John and Robert. John and Robert welcomed a sister, Phyllis, and the family lived in the Long Island area until Hubert's retirement when the family moved to their summer home in Westport, N.Y. Phyllis enjoyed the self-sufficiency of her country home and the beautiful plants and gardens that she maintained. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and together they were able to tour the United States. Their home in Florida afforded her the opportunity to bask in the warm sunshine while she voraciously read volumes of books and ultimately share the knowledge that she gained. Phyllis is survived by her three children, John of Huntington, Long Island, and his wife Gloria, Robert of Westport and his wife Carolyn and Phyllis of Ballston Spa, who has been providing special care to her Mom for the last few years. She is also survived by six grandchildren (John, Samantha and Francyne Karcher and Dawn Giardono of Long Island and Lisa Whalen and Meredith King of Westport) and five great-grandchildren. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Hubert in 2002; one grandson, David, in 2001; and by two sisters, Clara and Mary. A service of thanksgiving for a long and wonderful life will be held in Phyllis' memory on Saturday, Jan. 8th, at 2 p.m. at the home of Robert and Carolyn Karcher. Memorials may be given to the victims of the Tsunami. Leo H. WoodPLATTSBURGH — Leo H. Wood, 84, of Tom Miller Road, Plattsburgh died suddenly Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at his residence. He was born in Morrisonville on April 12, 1920, the son of Walter and Elizabeth (Turner) Wood. Mr. Wood married Ruth Trombley in St. Augustine's Church, Peru, N.Y., on Feb. 22, 1944. Ruth predeceased him on April 5, 1996. Leo served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Survivors include two daughters, Virginia and her husband Frank Cintron of Albany and Judith and her husband Kenneth Landry of Burlington, N.C.; five grandchildren, Neal Landry of Melbourne, Australia, Jason Landry and his wife Shirley of Kernersville, N.C., Dr. Nathan Cintron of Glastonbury, Conn., Erica Cintron of Natick, Mass., and Stephanie Cintron of Albany; one brother, Kenneth G. Wood of Plattsburgh; three sisters, Barbara Riley of Ithaca, N.Y., Marion Mitchell of Peru and Esther Covey of Beekmantown. He also leaves his best friend and companion, Kathryn Howard of Plattsburgh; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Raymond Wood; and one sister, Florence Brown. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in the spring. Donations in his memory may be made to the Heart Care Unit at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. Peter A. Porter, 48, of Mountain Home, Idaho, died on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at his home in Mountain Home, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Peter was born on Sept. 28, 1956, in Saranac Lake, N.Y., son of Sherwin "Bud" and Joyce (Terry) Porter. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy. A reception will follow at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post on the Spellman Road. Arrangements with the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Alfred M. Eaton, 48, of Route 22N, Plattsburgh, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Hartford, Conn., Aug. 15, 1956, the son of Alfred R. Eaton and the late Helen (Maloney) Eaton. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. Edson J. Valley Sr., 74, of Pikeville Road, Burke, N.Y., died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at CVPH in Plattsburgh, N.Y. He was born in Churubusco, N.Y., April 27, 1930, the son of the late Zara and Caroline (LaClair) Valley. Calling hours will be Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Brushton, N.Y. Cecelia Anne Dashnaw, 79, Formerly of Ellenburg Center, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at the Claxton-Hepburn Hospital in Ogdensburg. She was born in Alder Brook, N.Y., on Nov. 12, 1925, the daughter of James P. and Margaret (Hafford) Gregory. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. from St. John’s Church in Plattsburgh. Interment will be at a later date at Mount Carmel Cemetery. |
