Published: 04/21/06Gilbert GadwayWITHERBEE — Gilbert Gadway, 77, of Witherbee, N.Y., died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at Florida Memorial Hospital in Ormond Beach, Fla., where he had his winter home. Gilbert was born in Mooers Forks, N.Y., on April 1, 1927 to Mose and Melvina (Brassard) Gadway. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mary (Wilkens) Gadway; a brother Fred Gadway of Mooers Forks, N.Y.; a sister Ellen DeCosse of Mooers Forks, N.Y.; and two dear sisters-in-law Theresa Gadway of Witherbee and Thelma Gadway of Mooers Forks, N.Y. He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers William, Arthur, Alfred, Amada, Joseph and Edward; and sisters Edith Noe, Eva Latourneau, Irene Cenci, Nettie Rabideau, Minnie Bobbie, Mary Girard and Bertha DeCoste. Mr. Gadway was a Navy veteran of World War II. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and snowmobiling. He was employed by Republic Steel for 23 years, became a member of Local 106 Operating Engineers and later worked for Moriah Central School for a number of years. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at the Church of All Saints in Mineville, N.Y. Burial will be in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in the spring. Donations may be made in Gilbert’s memory to the Town of Moriah Ambulance Squad or to the American Lung Association. Hersey Theodore TromblyCHAZY — Hersey Theodore Trombly, 90, of Baker Road died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at his home, surrounded by his family. Mr. Trombly was born in Altona on March 18, 1914, the son of Wilbur and Aurelia (Pombrio) Trombly. He married the former Eleanor Reid at St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville in 1942. Mr. Trombly was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy, St. Joseph’s Men’s Club, and an usher. Mr. Trombly was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Holy Name Society and was a life member of VFW Post 125 in Plattsburgh. He also enjoyed gardening and carpentry, building his own home. Mr. Trombly was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the Pacific Theatre where he was a sergeant in the "Cannon Company," a field artillery unit. He was a machinist at Plattsburgh Motor Service from 1932 until retiring in 1979. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor; two sons, Alan Trombly and his wife, Eunice, of Chazy and Neil Trombly and his wife, Ellen, of Eau Claire, WI; six daughters, Mary Ducharme and her husband, Richard, of Hemmingford, PQ, Lynn Wheeler of Columbia, MD., Rhonda Daley and her husband, David, of Chazy, Janice Rabideau and her husband, Kenneth, of Plattsburgh, Cheryl Weber and her husband, William, of Chazy, and Robin Kiesenhofer and her husband, Klaus; two brothers, Virgil Trombly and his wife, Sonya, of Norwood and Lyles Trombly and his wife, Helen of Ingraham; three sisters, Beulah Lavarnway of Morrisonville, Alma Giroux of Ingraham, and Rita Fessette of Pt. Au Roche; twenty-five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Michael and daughter Joan; two brothers, Roy and Merton Trombly; two sisters, Doris Bechard and Norma Oliver; two grandsons, Richard Ducharme Jr. and Daniel Weber. Calling hours will be held Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will held Wednesday at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in the spring. Donations, in his memory, may be made to the Chazy Volunteer Fire Department or the Clinton County Office for the Aging, EISEP Program. Olive W. DevinsPERU — Olive W. Devins, 87, of Route 22, Peru, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at her home surrounded by her family, following a courageous battle with cancer. Her family, friends, and Hospice of the North Country cared for her during her illness. She was born in Swastika, N.Y., Sept. 25, 1917, the daughter of William and Bessie (McKinney) Wright. She graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1935 and Plattsburgh Normal School in 1938. In 1961 she obtained her B.E. degree from Plattsburgh State Teachers College. She married Gordon D. Devins May 30, 1942. At that time she was employed with Clinton County Department of Social Services, having previously taught school for two years. Olive continued to work in children services as a social worker until October 1945 and later, in October 1961, returned and worked until retirement in October 1982. Olive and Gordon spent many winters in Lakeland, Fla., in the senior citizen park where her brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Evelyn Wright, lived. They both loved dancing and bowling. Olive enjoyed crafts and painting. Both enjoyed playing pinochle with Gordon’s sisters and husband, Betty Huber, who also lived in Lakeland. Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Peggy Devins of Randolph, Maine, Robert and Cathy Devins of Malone, Barry Devins and Maribeth Mackinnon of Peru, and Kevin and Kim Devins of Harkness; grandchildren, Becky Dodge, Bethany Richmond, Kim Nelson, Andy Devins, Emily Devins, Kyle Devins and Korey Devins; three brothers, Clarence Wright and Clark Wright, both of Swastika, and Gordon "Jim" Wright of Glens Falls; several sisters-in-law, Mrs. Clarence (Anna) Wright, Ruth Votraw Devins, Hazel Devins LaDuke, Betty Devins Huber and Jean Devins and her husband, Joe Ryder; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 61 years, Gordon D. Devins, who died Aug. 13, 2003; three brothers, Ralph, Guay and Ernest; and one sister, Edna W. LaPierre. Calling hours will be held Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Keeseville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sally White, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Peaseleeville Cemetery. Donations in her memory made be made to the Keeseville United Methodist Church or Hospice of the North Country. Joan M. Brown, 70, of Keeseville Country Gardens, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Plattsburgh, Aug. 11, 1934 the daughter of Donald J., Sr. and Dorothy C. (Gilmore) Brown. Calling hours will be held Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. A Mass of Christian burial will celebrated Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church in Keeseville with Msgr. Leeward J. Poissant, pastor, celebrating. Burial will be in the spring in the parish cemetery. A full obituary will appear in Monday’s Press-Republican. Anna T. Powers, 97, of Rouses Point died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at the Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point. |
