Published: 12/26/04James E. BurgeyCrown Point — James E. Burgey, 83, of 38 Miller Rd., Crown Point, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at his home. He was born in West Addison, Vt., Aug. 20, 1921, the son of John and Suzie (Roberts) Burgey. James moved to New York to work at Republic Steel in Mineville. He later worked as a piper for International Paper in Ticonderoga, retiring in 1983 after 37 years. He proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 in the South Pacific, with the 31st Division, 149th Artillery. He enjoyed farming and raising livestock. He was also an avid fan of high school basketball. James was predeceased by his parents, John and Suzie; brothers Bobby, Richard, Arthur and sister Pauline; also his first wife Elizabeth (Pinchin) Burgey, who died in 1978. James is survived by his wife, Ortha Burgey and her three children, son John Maye and his wife Dawn, daughters Sandra and her husband Richard Granger, Patricia and her husband Rene Hamel; Ortha's grandchildren and her great-grandchildren, who brought James much joy. He is also survived by his children, son Charles Burgey and his wife Lucinda and their children, James Burgey and fiancée Theanda, Jennifer and her husband Mike Mascarenas, Mindy Burgay and Marcie Burgey; his daughter Sheila McDowell and her daughter Wendy and husband Tim Smith; in addition, James is survived by two sisters, Jean Devino Jones and Susan Mulderry; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Crown Point Methodist Church in Crown Point. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in James' memory to the High Peaks Hospice. Velma A. StoneKeeseville Velma A. Stone, 100, of Front Street, Keeseville, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at the Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility in Plattsburgh. She was born in Keeseville, June 27, 1904, the youngest daughter of Edward F. and Adeline M. (Pine/Pepin) Stone. She worked for nearly 30 years as a dental assistant to the late Dr. Holt, followed by several years as a contributing reporter in Keeseville for Denton Publications. She was a communicant of St. John's Church in Keeseville and belonged to the Altar Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Mildred Stone and Mrs. Blanche Brelia; and her brother, Warren Stone. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Church in Keeseville, with Monsignor Joseph Aubin, retired, celebrating. Burial will be in the spring in the parish cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to St. John's Church. Robert F. CollinsPLATTSBURGH — Robert F. Collins, 75, of Broad Street and formerly of Route 374, Ellenburg Depot, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center. He was born in Chittenden, Vt., on March 9, 1929, the son of Edward Raymond and Charlotte L. (Tallman) Collins. He married Marion Goodwin on Sept. 9, 1950, and they had eight children. Marion died on May 25, 1965. He then married Blanche LaGree on Nov. 12, 1966, and they had two children. Blanche died Jan. 12, 1995. Robert was a correction officer at Clinton Correctional Facility for many years, retiring from Lyon Mountain Correctional Facility on July 4, 1985, and was a masonry sub-contractor for many area builders. Formerly he worked for Armour Meat Packing and Bouyea Baking Company. He worked for Nitzis in his younger years and later opened a stand with his wife Blanche in Chazy Lake, called "B&B Michigan's." Survivors include three sons and four daughters, Gayle and her husband Larry Rector of Limestone, Maine, Robert Collins and his wife Dawn of Peru, Cathy and her husband Neil Wallace of Newport News, Va., Bruce Collins of Plattsburgh, Jayna Fountain of Rand Hill, Richard Collins of Plattsburgh and Diana Shadrick of Plattsburgh; three brothers, Otis Collins and his wife (Marie) of Plattsburgh, Raymond Collins of Plattsburgh and Edward Collins and his wife Edna of Morrisonville; two sisters, Evelyn Brandstetter of Cumberland Head and Constance L. Collins of Rome, N.Y.; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three children, Thomas on Aug. 6, 1956, and twins Kevin and Karen on Feb. 9, 1963. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 28th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held at St. Peter's Church on Wednesday, Dec. 29th, at 10 a.m. Burial will be at a later date in St. Alexander's Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center. Raymond L. HathawayELIZABETHTOWN — Raymond L. Hathaway III, 34, of Park Street, died at his residence Dec. 23, 2004. He was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., Aug. 4, 1970, the son of the late Gordon W. Hathaway and Bonnie (Mitchell) Hathaway. He graduated from Willsboro Central School in 1988. He was a member of the Willsboro United Methodist Church. Raymond enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, camping and was an avid NASCAR fan. He is survived by his mother, Bonnie Hathaway and her companion Randy Robare; three stepsisters Jessica, Amanda and Evelynn Robare; also many aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Elizabethtown-Lewis Rescue Squad, Elizabethtown NY 12932. Arrangements are with W.M. Marvin’s Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. Frankie R. Mason, 75, of Whiteface Memorial Highway, Wilmington, died at his home on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004. He was born on July 15, 1929, the son of Rose Mason. There are no calling hours. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant View Cemetery, Wilmington. The Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. |
