Jacqueline M. Smith

Rouses Point — Jacqueline M. Smith, 71, of Oak Wood Drive, Rouses Point, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh.

She was born June 4, 1933, in Toronto, Ontario, the daughter of Romeo and Yvonne (Bouchard) Coulombe.

She was a member of the Literary Club, the Red Hatters and the Spinners and Knitters Guild of Elizabethtown.

Survived by her husband, R. Harvey Smith whom she married in 1952; two daughters and a son-in- law, Karen Smith of Millbrook and Wanda and Theo George of Washington; two granddaughters, Simeone George of New York City and Nicole George of Berkley, Calif.; a sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Frank Lavonia of Florida.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held at the Three Steeples Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Champlain, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to her may be made to Hospice of the North Country. Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home, AuSable Forks is in charge of arrangements,

Dorothy D. Carter

PLATTSBURGH — Dorothy D. Carter, 96, a resident of the Samuel F. Vilas Home, 61 Beekman Street, Plattsburgh, and formerly a resident of Latham, N.Y., died Dec. 21, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center.

Mrs. Carter was born on Aug. 15, 1908, in Plattsburgh, the daughter of Charles L. and Florence (Tromblee) Dailey.

She married James Lester "Les" Carter Oct. 25, 1935, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Plattsburgh.

Dorothy was a resident of the Vilas Home since February of 2000, where she lived the last years of her life in great dignity and comfort under the care of their dedicated staff to whom her family extend many thanks.

Prior to this Dorothy was one of the first residents of Lake Forest when they opened their doors in December of 1999, having moved there from 457 Troy-Schenectady Road, Latham, N.Y., where she and Les had lived for over 50 years. She had been a librarian at Heatly High School in Green Island, N.Y., since 1947, until her retirement in 1976.

One of her proudest achievements was having won the Albany Times-Union 1953 Match Famous Pairs Game where her first prize was a brand new fully loaded 1953 Oldsmobile 98 automobile. Dorothy loved playing bridge, her circle of friends in Latham and the races at Saratoga where she and Les owned and raced their horses.

Before moving to the Albany area, Dorothy was the English and French teacher at the old Morrisonville High School from the fall after her graduation from the University of Vermont in 1930, until 1947. She was a member of the PHS Class of 1926.

Survivors include her sister, Marjorie (Dailey) Glenn Cronin of Lake Forest; her brother-in-law, Leon Jacques of Morrisonville; her nieces, Phyllis Jacques of Plattsburgh and Barbara Bordeau of Morrisonville and her husband Terry; her nephews, Robert Glenn of Mexico and his wife Louise, David Glenn of Plattsburgh and his wife Lynne, Stephen Glenn of Glens Falls and his wife Debbie; several grandnieces and nephews; and her dear friends, Harmon and Jane LaMar and Margaret Fogarty.

Her parents; her husband, Les in 1993; her sister-in-law, Elizabeth "Betty" Jacques of Morrisonville in 2002; and her nephew, Ralph Glenn of Plattsburgh, in 1992, predeceased her.

There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held at the Brown Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the S.F. Vilas Home, 61 Beekman Street, Plattsburgh, NY 12901, in care of the Alma Cowden account, which has been established to assist those residents in need.

John Vincent Macaluso

Ticonderoga — John Vincent Macaluso, 82, of Third Avenue, Ticonderoga, N.Y., passed away Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, at the Moses-Ludington Hospital of Ticonderoga, after a brief illness.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., May 14, 1922, he was the son of the late Vincent and Angelina (Siringo) Macaluso.

Mr. Macaluso was a graduate of St. Augustine High School of Brooklyn and Catholic University of Washington D.C.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. After his service, he completed his education at Long Island College. He went on to work briefly for the FBI before beginning a 30 year career as a special agent for the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor.

Upon his retirement in 1986, he made Ticonderoga his permanent home. He was a member of the St. Isaac Jogues Council 333 Knights of Columbus, the American Legion Post 224 and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 1494, all of Ticonderoga.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ticonderoga, where he was a frequent volunteer and participated in St. Mary’s School Adopt-A-Student program.

John was predeceased by two brothers, Ferdinand "Fred" Macaluso of New York City, N.Y., with whom he shared a lifelong passion for the Mets and the Jets and Frank Macaluso of Baltimore, Md.; also three sisters, Grace Prior of Exeter, N.H., Marie Smith of Peabody, Mass., and Gemma Macaluso of New York City, N.Y.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews; and several grandnieces and nephews by whom he will be remembered as a loving and devoted uncle.

Relatives and friends may call Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Wilcox and Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin Street, Ticonderoga, N.Y. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. William G. Muench, pastor, will officiate. The Rite of Committal will take place at the family plot of St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery of Ticondeorga in the spring.

Dorothy Mae Stansbury

ELIZABETHTOWN — Dorothy Mae Stansbury, 95, passed away, Dec. 21, 2004, at the Horace Nye Home in Elizabethtown, N.Y.

She was born in Garrett County, Maryland, Feb. 20, 1909, the daughter of Edward and Myrtle (Holden) Sembower.

Survivors include her two sons and daughter-in-laws, Edward and Marjorie (Betty) Stansbury of Peru, N.Y., and Leslie and Barbara Stansbury of Altona, N.Y.; her grandsons and their wives, William and Shannon Stansbury of Plattsburgh and Steven and Crystal Stansbury and their two sons, Steven and Cody Stansbury of Peru. She also has a sister, Lucille Ball of Bland, Va.; and a brother, Carlton Sembower of Mountain Lake Park, Md., and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Garland Stansbury, Jan. 8, 1992; her parents; and several brothers and sister in previous years.

Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery in Martinsburg, W.Va. following a showing at the Rosedale Funeral Home on Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at 10 a.m.

The family suggests contributions in her memory be made to Horace Nye Home in Elizabethtown or to the Alzheimer Association.

Dave Marquis

Palmetto Fla. — Dr. Dave Marquis Ph.D., formally of Plattsburgh, N.Y., died at his home in Palmetto, Fla., on Oct. 30, 2004. At his side were his loving wife and the helpful folks from Hospice.

Dave was born June 27, 1920, in New York City.

He married Catherine Barnard of Plattsburgh in Hartford, Conn., Dec. 11, 1946.

He attended college at Plattsburgh State and graduated from there in 1949. He moved to Rome, N.Y., and taught in Whitesboro Elementary School until 1958. He returned to Plattsburgh and in 1960 he moved to Columbus, Ohio, where he continued his studies and went on to earn his Ph.D. at Ohio State. In 1967, he moved to Presqe Isle, Maine, where he taught computer and sciences at University of Maine (UMPI) until he retired in 1983.

He and his wife then settled in Palmetto, Fla.

Dave was an accomplished musician and loved music. He was a member of the National Barbershopers and sang with them were ever he was located. He enjoyed music in all forms be it playing, singing or composing. He also enjoyed camping and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine of nearly 59 years; one son, Eugene Marquis of Cincinnati, Ohio; two daughters, Judi and her husband Robert Moore of Bradenton, Fla., and Ann Marie and her husband George Bolyard of Elizabethton, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Herman and Murry Hochberg of Dearfield Beach, Fla.

He is predeceased by five other siblings.

John A. Dominy, 84, of the Seventy Road, Burke died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at the Alice Hyde Nursing Home, Malone where he had been a patient since Feb. 5, 2004.

Born in Mooers, N.Y. on May 10, 1920, he was the son of Peter and Tilly (Spoor) Dominy.

Calling hours will be Thursday, Dec. 23 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at St. George’s Church, Burke on Friday, Dec. 24, at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Demo officiating. Spring burial will take place at Notre Dame Cemetery, Malone.

Velma A. Stone, 100, of Front Street, Keeseville, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at the Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Keeseville, June 27, 1904, the daughter of Edward F. and Adeline M. (Pine) Stone.

Calling hours will be held Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Church in Keeseville, with Monsignor Joseph Aubin, retired, celebrating. Burial will be in the spring in the parish cemetery.

Howard Graham, 77, of Elizabethtown died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, at his home.

He was born May 12, 1927, in Hazelton, Pa., the son of Fred and Cora (Lashway) Graham.

Calling hours will he held Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Marvin’s Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Marvin’s Funeral Home. Burial will he in Riverside Cemetery in the spring.

Stephanie A. Maglienti, 91, of Blueberry Hill Road, Morrisonville, died Wednesday. Dec. 22, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center.

Calling hours and funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh.
