Published: 12/17/04Geneva L. BoireWest Chazy — Geneva L. Boire, 80, of Route 9, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh. She was born on April 28, 1924, in Dunham, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Alphonse and Diana (Cotnoir) Goodrow. Geneva married Donald Boire on Oct. 26, 1946, in St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy. During World War II, Geneva worked along with her sister Lucille in Hartford, Conn., for Cheney Bros., making parachutes for the war effort and then at the Champlain (N.Y.) Ski Factory with her sister Anita, making skis for the U.S. Army during the war. She later worked for Gioiosa’s Ice Cream in Plattsburgh for many years. Mrs. Boire enjoyed housekeeping and gardening. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Donald of West Chazy; one son, Michael of Plattsburgh; one sister, Anita Juneau of Plattsburgh; two grandchildren, Matthew Boire and Jason Boire of Plattsburgh; and several nieces and nephews. Geneva was predeceased by four brothers, Arthur Goodrow, Ernest Goodrow, Girard Goodrow and Leonel Goodrow; and five sisters, Lea Pion, Laura Castine, her twin, Janette Tyo, Lucille Carson and Alida Reynolds. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday in St. Joseph’s Church at 11 a.m. Burial will take place in the spring in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Chazy. Viola E. GilroyPLATTSBURGH — Viola E. Gilroy, 86, formerly of Hill Street, Keeseville, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home. She was born in Sciota on Nov. 30, 1918, the daughter of Lester and Emma (Jubert) Blow. Viola married Raymond Gilroy at St. John’s Church in Plattsburgh in 1936. They owned and operated Gilroy’s Gas and Grocery on AuSable Street in Keeseville for 26 years, until retiring in 1982. Mr. Gilroy died in 1976. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Keeseville and the Ladies of the Elks Lodge in Keeseville. Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis Quantock of Keeseville; one brother, Harold Blow of Plattsburgh; three grandsons, Col. David E. Quantock and his wife Melissa of Ft. Bragg, N.C., Col. Mark R. Quantock and his wife Rebecca of Washington, D.C., and Eric S. Quantock and his fiancée Sandra of Keeseville; and eight great-grandchildren, David Jr., Shannon, Christopher, Christian, Heather, Jordan, Ethan and Cody. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Earl Quantock, on Nov. 16, 2004; one brother, Floyd Bleaux; and one sister, Pauline Blow. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held on Saturday in the R.W. Walker Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. Burial will take place in the spring in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Kevin J. MandyMoriah — Kevin J. Mandy of Windy Hill Road died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at his home in Moriah. He was born in Ticonderoga, April 3, 1949, the son of John E. Mandy and Nina (Witherbee) Mandy. Kevin graduated from Moriah Central School and then furthered his education at Plattsburgh State. His first jobs were with Vetter’s Dairy and Tahawas Mining Co. He was a member of the NYS National Guard. Kevin became a skilled craftsman in designing and construction of both soft and hardwood furniture for several years. Then his interest turned to the production of maple syrup, a lifetime dream since he was a teenager. When time was available, Kevin’s love of nature took him into the woods with his camera to photograph what he thought special. Several photos were published in Adirondack Life Magazine. Kevin enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting ginseng and his flower and vegetable gardens. He is survived by his parents, John and Nina; an uncle, Charles Mandy of Witherbee; an aunt, Margareth Mandy Prezioso of Pearl River, N.Y.; and several cousins. Predeceased are a sister and brother; his grandparents, Louis and Mary Mandy and Ray and Edith Witherbee; uncles Steven and Joseph Mandy, Douglas Witherbee, Arthur Witherbee; his aunt, Gertrude Witherbee 0lcott. A graveside service will be held at a later date in the South Moriah Cemetery in Moriah. Clarence M. Rennell Jr.Tupper Lake — Clarence M. Rennell Jr., 65, of Charlotte Harbor, Fla., formerly of Tupper Lake, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at his home, surrounded by his family. Born on May 23, 1939, in Keeseville, he was the son of Clarence Sr. and Pricilla (Macy) Rennell. Clarence attended local schools in Keeseville and graduated class of 1958. He attended Simmons School of Mortuary Science in Syracuse and received his funeral director’s license in 1965. In 1976 he opened the Rennell Funeral Home in Tupper Lake which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1999 and relocated to Charlotte Harbor, Fla. Clarence served as Franklin County Coroner from 1974 to 1998. He was a member of many organizations, the NYS Coroners and Medical Examiners Association, the National and State Funeral Directors Association; was a past member of the Tupper Lake Lions Club Board of Directors and attended the Pittsburg Medical School Eye Enucleation program. Clarence was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed hunting, belonging to the Mohegan Pond Hunting Club for many years and enjoyed fishing and participated annually in the Lake Champlain Fishing Derby. He is survived by two sons, Michael and his wire Debi of Valrico, Fla., and Mark of Albany; one daughter, Michelle and her husband Robbie Eggsware of Tampa, Fla.; four granddaughters, Heather, Ashley, Lindsey and Kelsey; his longtime companion in life, Patty Stone of Charlotte Harbor; one cousin, Susan (Rennell) and her husband Wayne LaPierre of Tupper Lake. He was predeceased by his parents; and one sister, Beverly. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Fortune-Keough-Rennell Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 12th, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home; burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. LasherNAPLES, Fla. — Helen Chester Lasher, AKA "Sashi" by loving grandchildren, 91, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at her home in The Carlisle, Naples, Fla. Born in Chaplin, Conn., on March 26, 1913, she was the daughter of Clarence E. and Anna Belle (Main) Chester of Albany, N.Y. Mrs. Lasher spent her youth and early married years in Albany, later living in Canajoharie, Glens Falls, Schenectady and Buffalo, N.Y., during her husband’s career. She enjoyed summers on Lake Champlain, WaterEdge Dr., Port Kent, N.Y. Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., has been her home for over 35 years, moving to Naples, Fla., in the past year. After attending Albany Business College, she worked briefly as a secretary until choosing to be a stay-at-home Mom that led to applying her skills in many charitable, civic and church activities, including Girl Scout leadership. Her creativity was expressed via sewing, knitting and beautiful watercolors of places and things she loved. In later years, she greatly enjoyed her circle of friends at the Second Presbyterian Church in Ft. Lauderdale, taking trips with her son and wife on their boat, cheering for her favorite sports teams, the Boston Red Sox and LA Kings with her son-in-law and daughter and watching the great-grandchildren multiply, grow and develop. She is predeceased by her husband, John V. Lasher; sisters Inez Chester and Dorothy Chester Corr; and brothers Dwight and Clarence Peter Chester. Survivors, in addition to one sister, Mildred Penrose Sann (99) Clifton Park, N.Y., include one daughter, Judith L. Duken and husband Gil of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Naples, Fla.; one son, Dr. John C. Lasher and wife Jane of Amarillo, Texas; five grandchildren, Beth Duken Taylor and husband David, John Duken and wife Colleen, Elizabeth Lasher Kopecky, Leslie Lasher Holman and husband John, Jane Lasher Urciolo and husband Glenn; ten great-grandchildren, Jamie and Katie Taylor, Julia and Sarah Duken, Brittany and John Kopecky, Thomas and Taylor Downs, Lasher and Connor Urciolo; and several nieces and nephews. A brief service is scheduled for Saturday at noon at the Fairchild Funeral Home, 299 N. Federal Hwy, Ft Lauderdale, FL 33301. Memorial donations may be made to The First Presbyterian Church, 34 Brinkerhoff St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901. Ambrose C. Marquis, 86, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at Mercy Healthcare Center. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Fortune-Keough-Rennell Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church. Shirley J. Brier, 65, of 16 Forest Hill Ave., Saranac Lake, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at Adirondack Medical Center. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. only at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, Inc. A Catholic Daughters service will take place on Sunday at 7:45 p.m. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home, with Rev. Patrick O’Reilly officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake in May. A complete obituary will be available on Saturday. |
