Published: 12/8/04Ruth M. AdamsPlattsburgh — Ruth M. Adams, 77, of Cogan Avenue, Plattsburgh, passed away on Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at her home after a long illness. She was born in Albany, N.Y., on May 21, 1927, daughter of Thomas John and Florence (Oliver) Collins. Ruth was a licensed real estate broker, retiring in 1980. Ruth is survived by her husband, Edward L. Adams. They were married in 1945. Also survived by her children, Thomas E. Adams and his wife Cathy, Daniel Adams and his wife Susan, Beverly Harrigan and her husband Peter of Plattsburgh and B.J. Adams and his wife Kelly of Beaufort, S.C.; eight grandchildren, Edward T. Adams, Becca Adams, Danielle Adams Mehlman, Kristen, Jessica and Sean Harrigan and Stacy and Mark Adams; five great-grandchildren, Thomas E. Adams, Katie Adams, Alexa Mehlman, Quinn Mehlman and Daniel A. Adams. Calling hours and funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Remembrances may be made to Hospice of the North Country. Arrangements with Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Peter H. Troy IICASCO, MAINE — Peter H. Troy II, 72, of Mayberry Hill Road, Casco, Maine, died Dec. 4, 2004, in Hospice Care at Market Square Health Care Facility, South Paris, Maine, attended by his family. His death was the result of a stroke on November 27. Mr. Troy was born May 16, 1932, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., the son of Peter F. and Elizabeth Colwell Troy and grandson of Peter H. Troy, founder of the Red Hook Telephone Company. He was a graduate of Blair Academy, Blairstown, N.J., and attended Roanoke College, Roanoke Va. Mr. Troy served in the United States Army in Korea during the Korean War and Truce. After his discharge, he became an electronics technician for IBM, where he worked for 15 years, leaving that company to serve in management with the Red Hook Telephone Company. In 1972, he became manager of the Continental Telephone Company in Raymond, Maine (the former Poland Telephone Company). He was that company's state marketing manager when, in 1979 he suffered a stroke, which led to his early retirement. Mr. Troy was a member of the Ti-Yogi Bowmen, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. He was a past commander and adjutant of Montgomery Post 429 American Legion, Rhinebeck, N.Y., as well as a member of the Color Guard. The Post honored him with a life membership in recognition of his service. Legion membership also included the 40 & 8, Arlington, N.Y. Community activities included his membership and past presidency, as well as one of the founders of the Rhinebeck Historical Society. As a member of the Rhinebeck Rotary Club, he was instrumental in the development of the original Rhinebeck Rotary Haunted House, begun to give the area children and grownups a yearly Halloween event, which grew to be a major fund raiser for the Club. For several years after his transfer to Maine, he and many Casco friends enjoyed doing a similar haunted house, first at his home on Mayberry Hill and then in the Casco Village Grange Hall. He was formerly active in the Naples/Casco/Raymond Lions Club. Mr. Troy was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Windham, Maine, where, in the 1970’s, he and his wife were active in the youth ministry. Although Mr. Troy had many interests and activities which continued throughout his retirement, most important was his love of antique vehicles. From the age of 14, when a family friend sold him a Model A Ford, to his last year, he was most happy when working on and driving his own collection of cars and attending shows. He was a supporting member of the Owls Head Transportation Museum in Owls Head, Maine, as well as a member of the Ford V8 Club, the National Woodie Club and a past member of the National Packard Club, the Back Forty Club and the MOALS. Survivors include his wife, the former Patricia Bohon of Churubusco, N.Y., whom he married on July 25, 1959; his daughter, Anne and her husband Al Smith of Otisfield, Maine; his son, Peter H. III of Casco, Maine; his daughter, Mary of Sterling, Va.; his granddaughter, Sophrinia Rose Smith of Otisfield; his sister, Frandee Sarver of Santa Rosa, Calif.; his cousin, Troy Warner of Indianapolis, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Casco Fire Department, Casco, Maine; the Casco Rescue Unit, Casco, Maine; or the Owls Head Transportation Museum, Owls Head, Maine. There are no calling hours. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Windham, Maine, with a reception to follow at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, Casco, Maine. OLIVE B. SMITH, 94, formerly of AuSable Forks and the Neighborhood House of Keene Valley died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital where she had been a patient for several days. Toby was born July 18, 1910, in Lansingburgh, the daughter of Edwin and Mary (Busher) Tyler. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in the spring in the family plot at Oakwood Cemetery in Troy. Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. HELEN LaVALLEY, 96, formerly of Jay and Uihlein Mercy Center, Lake Placid, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at the Adirondack Medical Center Emergency Room in Lake Placid. She was born in Jay, Jan. 1, 1908, the daughter of Ezra and Anna (Trumbull) Fairbanks. Calling hours will be Thursday 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Holy Name Catholic Church, AuSable Forks. Burial will follow at the Jay Central Cemetery, Jay, N.Y. Judy C. Lane, 53, of Gentle Breeze Drive, Malone, N.Y., died early Tuesday morning, Dec. 7, 2004, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. She had been a patient there since Nov. 23. She was born in Westville, N.Y., Sept. 7, 1951, the daughter of Howard and Agnes (Gokey) LaBrake. Calling hours will be Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in the St. John Bosco Cemetery in Malone. Jenny M. Crapser, 69, of Bouquet Senior Housing died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh. She was born in Plattsburgh, July 29, 1935, the daughter of Kenneth and Bernadette (Garrent) Martin. Calling hours will be held Friday from 10 a.m. to noon with a funeral service immediately following at W.M. Marvins Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. Dorothy M. Desourdy, 77, a resident of Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. She was born in Witherbee, N.Y., May 20, 1927, the daughter of Irvin and Alice (Pelkey) Desourdy. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon at the Reiss Memorial Chapel in the Uihlein Mercy Center. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at the Reiss Memorial Chapel at noon. Rev. Patrick O'Reilly will officiate. Burial will be in North Elba Cemetery in Lake Placid. The Clark Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. William Joseph Arsenault, 75, of Barry Ave, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. He was born Oct. 7, 1929, in Tupper Lake the son of Denis J. and Mary Helen (Boushie) Arsenault. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Richer Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Name Church Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Alphonsus Cemetery with full military honors. |
