Published: 12/3/04Eleanor M. "Ellie" StoneBeekmantown — Mrs. Eleanor M. "Ellie" Stone, 66, of Durand Road, Beekmantown, passed away suddenly Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in AuSable Forks, N.Y., on June 4, 1938, the daughter of Abraham and Hazel (LaFountain) Collins. Eleanor was a member of the American Legion Post 20, Ladies Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 125, Plattsburgh Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling and bingo. She was a member of St. Peter's Church. Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Herbert; her mother Hazel Collins; a sister-in-law, Jean Stone; mother-in-law Lena Stone; a brother-in-law, Harold Stone; and a grandson, Jason. She is survived by her children, Dianna Desautels and her husband Michael of Batavia, N.Y., Herbert C. "Tim" Stone Jr. and his fiancée Sharmaine Duprey of Plattsburgh, Melissa Agnew and her husband Al of Plattsburgh, Michelle Codding and her husband Thomas of Columbia, S.C., Shannon Stone and her husband Joseph of Altona; her brothers, Robert Collins, Lincoln Collins and Benjamin Collins; a sister, Pauline Sousie; her father, Abraham Collins and his wife Wanda of Peru; a brother-in-law, Clayton Stone of Beekmantown; a sister-in-law, Hazel Stone of Beekmantown; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. from St. Peter's Church. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Members of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries are asked to meet Friday at 7 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home for services. James E. MinogueClintonville — James E. Minogue of Route 9N, Clintonville, N.Y., passed into the arms of the Lord in his home in the company of his loving family and friends on Dec. 1, 2004, after a lengthy illness. He was born May 25, 1924, between AuSable Forks and Clintonville, in what is known as "Rogers." He is survived by his sister, Sybil Lawrence of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; his children, Robert and Mary Minogue of Jay, N.Y., William and Shawn Minogue of Wilmington, N.Y., Jan and Gerald Rafferty of Keeseville, N.Y., Marilyn and Larry Plishka of Keeseville, N.Y.; grandchildren Brandon and Kristopher Minogue of Wilmington, Kayla, Elizabeth and Michael Rafferty of Keeseville, Nicole, Jared and Tanner Plishka of Keeseville and Sarah McCoy of Dannemora; stepchildren Debbie Cumber, Kathryn Cooper, Thomas Hathaway; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several foster children; nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Lillian Minogue; and brother Thomas. He was also predeceased by wife Freda "Pat" (Pelkey) Minogue (1946-1986) and wife Joyce (Rhino) Minogue (1988-2004.) Employed by New York State Department of Correctional Services, retiring at the rank of lieutenant, a self-employed master carpenter; lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1505, Keeseville and American Legion Post 504, AuSable Forks. He was a lifelong communicate of St. Catherine’s Church in Clintonville until its closing and of the Holy Name Church in AuSable Forks. Jim was a lifelong resident of Clintonville and the North Country. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He also was an avid fan of the AuSable fast pitch softball league and tournaments. He is wellknown for his editorials and insights into many local issues as well as his daily technical advice to the local auto repair facility. He was admired for his loyalty to his career-long peers and subordinate staff as well. He served his country as a member of the 801st Aviation Combat Engineers during World War II, stationed on the Azore Islands off the coast of Europe. Jim entered public service as a prison guard in 1957 at Clinton Correctional Facility, retiring at the rank of lieutenant in 1983 from Adirondack Correctional Facility. He enjoyed his retirement years doting on his loved ones, woodworking and his daily two to three mile walks. Catherine "Kay" Smith FritzEllenburg — Kay Fritz, 80, of Star Road, Ellenburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at her residence. She was born on March 27, 1924, in Brainardsville to Merle and Eva (Hoy) Smith. Kay married James Fritz on Jan. 12, 1943. He was in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, so Kay spent some time in the south with him. After 25 years of marriage, they amicably divorced. Kay held bachelor's and master's degrees from Plattsburgh State University. She taught for 32 years (many of those years at Northern Adirondack Central School) and was a member of the school board for 16 years. She was an avid golfer and was the women’s golf club champion in Malone several times. She also greatly enjoyed downhill and cross-country skiing. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of the Malone Duplicate Bridge Club. She was very fond of animals and took in many strays. She was also a 50-year member of the Mt. Hermon Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Kay has been a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. She has served as trustee and treasurer of the United Methodist Church in Ellenburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Eva Smith, her two sisters, Lorraine Smith and Helen Tross; and her former husband, Jim Fritz. Survivors include nephews Larry Tross of Arizona, Stephen Tross of California; nieces Kathy Pedrozny and Susan Weaver, both of Florida; many cousins, including Marsha Thompson and her husband Ronald of Brainardsville; and in-laws Bill and Jane Fritz of Ellenburg Depot and Little River, S.C., Mary Yorkey of Central Square; and her beloved cats, FannyAnnie and Mr. Molly. Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Megan Stowe, pastor of the Ellenburg United Methodist Church, officiating. A reception will follow at the Ellenburg Community Center. Interment will be in the Brainardsville cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the United Methodist Church of Ellenburg, the Adirondack Humane Society in Plattsburgh, the Peru Shelter (Telegraph Road, Peru, N.Y.) or the St. John Feral Cat Fund (4 Firehouse Lane, Plattsburgh, NY 12901). Junius E. MarksAthens, Ohio — Junius E. Marks, of Athens, Ohio, formerly of Rouses Point, N.Y., died Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 1, 2004. He was the son of the late Nathan and Luna Belle (Usry) Marks, born March 24, 1912, in Warrenton, N.C. Mr. Marks was a welder in the aviation industry, working at North American Aviation. He attended school in Richmond, Va., and was a former resident of Manchester, Conn. He was a 30-year resident of Athens, Ohio, and had lived in Rouses Point for three years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. He is survived by a daughter, Joan Pavao of Fall River, Mass., a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and James Watson of Millfield; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Diane Marks of Rouses Point, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Josephine (Twaronite) Marks, 1991; and three sisters and four brothers. Friends may call at the Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens, Ohio, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 2 p.m. by Father John Mucha, with burial in Alexander Cemetery, Athens. |
