Published: 11/27/04Carlton Dale AllenSaranac — Carlton Dale Allen, 72, of Barnham Brook Road, passed away at his home with his loving family by his side on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004. He was born in Saranac on May 18, 1932, son of Leonard C. and Goldie (Hackett) Allen. Dale was the fourth generation of Allens on the family farm on Burnt Hill. He operated his own trucking company and white wash business in his early years. He served in the Army Reserves from 1950-1956. Dale drove tractor-trailer as a Teamster for Dorn's Transportation (later Oneida Trucking) from 1958 until his retirement in 1985 and became good friends with many of his customers on his trucking routes. After retiring, he worked as a security officer for Champlain Centers and drove school bus for the Saranac School District until March 2004, until his illness no longer allowed him to work. Dale truly enjoyed the relationships he formed with many of the kids on the bus. One of "Beepa's" greatest pleasures in life was spending time with his children and grandchildren (by whom he was dearly loved), especially at his camp on Fish Creek, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the outdoors which he enjoyed so much. He was admired by many and was well known for his hard work ethic, honesty and outgoing personality. Feeding birds and wildlife was one of his favorite hobbies. Dale is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jean (Robinson) Allen; six children, Deborah Carter and her husband Nicholas Carter of Saranac, Mark Allen and his wife Lori of Morrisonville, Scott Allen and his wife Deborah of Saranac, Marlene Allen and her fiancé Robert Curtis of Saranac Lake, Carolyn Spear and her husband Ronald Spear of Saranac and Michelle Gokey and her husband John Gokey of Saranac; and a sister, Shirley Westover and husband Richard Westover of Braintree, Mass. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Nicole (Carter) Muhvich, Matthew Carter, Jessica and Christopher Allen, Adam and Jacob Spear, Katelyn, Olivia and Landon Gokey; four stepgrandchildren, Daniel, Jessica, Joshua and Michael Carter; two great - grandchildren, Anne and Jonathan Muhvich; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Samuel and Ella Carter; and many nieces and nephews. Dale was predeceased by his mother and father, Leonard and Goldie Allen; and three brothers, Earl, Robert and Ross Allen. Calling hours will be Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at 2 p.m. from the Saranac United Methodist Church with Pastor Kenneth Davis officiating. Donations in his memory may be made to the Saranac Rescue Squad or Hospice of the North Country. Emile "Bud" PionMorrisonville — Mr. Emile "Bud" Pion, 69, of Rosbo Lane, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh on Jan. 19, 1935, son of Charles and Jane (LeJeune) Pion. Emile attended Mount Assumption Institute in Plattsburgh. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Emile retired from the Plattsburgh City Police Department in 1979 as a Detective Sergeant. He was a member of the American Legion Post 20 in Plattsburgh. Emile also was employed by the Thousand Islands Park Police and drove school bus for the Champlain Valley Bus Service until his disability in 2001. Emile is survived by his wife of 45 years, Pamela J. (Daunais) Pion of Plattsburgh; three children, Keith Edward Pion and his wife Terry of Salt Lake City, Utah, Tracey Lynne Phaneuf of Plattsburgh and Stephen Charles Pion and his wife Pamela A. of Morrisonville; a sister, Joanne Dougherty and her husband Arthur of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; six grandchildren; two great - grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many very close cousins. Emile was predeceased by his parents; a half brother, Charles Pion; and two nephews. Calling hours will be Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at 11 a.m. in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh with Rev. William Reamer, Catholic chaplain at CVPH Medical Center, officiating. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Police Benevolent Association. Kevin Wayne GayWillsboro — Kevin Wayne Gay, 29, died at his home in Willsboro, N.Y., on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004. He was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Feb. 13, 1975, the son of Gordon and Jane (Sayward) Gay. After high school graduation, Kevin spent five years in the U.S. Army and then came back to his hometown to work. He worked for George Moore, Inc. of Keeseville as a heavy equipment operator. He loved the outdoors and was an avid woodsman and hunter. He really enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his mother, Jane Gay of Willsboro; a brother and his wife, Michael and Jodi Gay of Bellevue, Neb.; a sister, Lori Gay of Louisville, Col.; paternal grandparents, Robert and Evelyn Gay of Willsboro; one niece; three nephews; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father and his maternal grandparents, Wayne and Aileen Sayward. Calling hours will be held at the Huestis Funeral Home, Willsboro, on Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, from 1 to 3 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. James Delbel officiating. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Reber Fire Company or the Willsboro - Reber Rescue Squad. Irene Frances MelinSARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Irene Frances Melin, 87, formerly of Wilton, N.Y., Exeter, N.H., and Lexington, Mass., died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at Wesley Health Care Center. She was born March 6, 1917, in Stockholm, Maine, the daughter of George and Mabel (Pomeroy) Vincent. She was a 1935 graduate of Caribou Maine High School. Irene was a member of the Daylily Society and the American Hemerocalis Society. She was an active member of the Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church and was involved in many church activities. Mrs. Melin loved cats and enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting and crossword puzzles. She is predeceased by her husband, Alvar V. Melin, who died May 12, 1992; four brothers, Glen P. Vincent, Harold Vincent, Ross Vincent and Frederick Vincent; and her sister, Helen M. (Vincent) Melin. Survivors include three sons, Ernest A. Melin and his wife Vivian of Peru, N.Y., Roger G. Melin of Amsterdam, N.Y., and Edwin V. Melin and his wife Valerie of Newburyport, Mass.; three grandchildren, Diane Melin of Malta, N.Y., Timothy Melin and his wife Dawn of Williamstown, N.Y., and Eric Melin of Cambridge, Mass. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29th, at the Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church, Fifth Avenue at Henning Road, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. Burial will be at Exeter Cemetery, Exeter, N.H. Arrangements are under the direction of Tunison Funeral Home, 105 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. |
