Published: 11/25/04Robert E. McGettiganPlattsburgh — Mr. Robert E. "Mac" McGettigan, 80, of Kellogg Court, Plattsburgh, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center after a long illness with his wife and son at his side. Special thanks are given to Hospice of the North Country and his many skilled caregivers. Robert served in the U.S. Air Force from 1942 to 1968. He served in World War II and also overseas during Korea and Vietnam. Robert came to Plattsburgh Air Force Base in 1958 where he was assigned the position of NCO in charge of the propulsion branch of the 380th Field Maintenance Squadron. He retired at Plattsburgh Air Force Base in 1968 with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He was born in Port Reading, N.J., on May 11, 1924, the son of Charles and Katherine (Einhorn) McGettigan Sr. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Grimshaw) McGettigan of Plattsburgh. They were married Oct. 2, 1961, in Spencerport, N.Y. He is also survived by a son, James McGettigan of Plattsburgh; a sister, Catherine Roskosz and her husband John of Manchester, N.J.; Leroy McGettigan and his wife Gloria of Shreveport, La.; and several nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Katherine McGettigan Sr.; his brothers, Charles Jr. and Jerry. Robert enjoyed living in the Plattsburgh area and spent much time camping and boating. He was proud of the military and his membership in the following organizations, the Air Force Sergeants Association, the American Legion Post 20, the American Military Retirees Association, Korean War 6147 TAC "Mosquito" Squadron, the North Country Vietnam Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4125. Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. from St. John’s Church with the Rev. David Gearwar, parochial vicar as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Whispering Maples Mausoleum on the Tom Miller Road. Members of the American Military Retirees Association are asked to meet Friday at 7 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home. Members of the American Legion Post 20, VFW Post 125 and the North Country Vietnam Veterans are asked to meet Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home. Mary Agnes TennienTiconderoga — Mary Agnes Tennien, 78, of Ticonderoga, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at the Moses Ludington Nursing Home of Ticonderoga. She was born in Ticonderoga, May 31, 1926, the daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (McGinley) Kenefick. Mrs. Tennien was a lifetime resident of Ticonderoga and was a graduate of Ticonderoga High School. She was employed as a nurse at the Moses-Ludington Hospital of Ticonderoga, for many years. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ticonderoga and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court of St. Mary’s 794. She was predeceased by her first husband, Harry Bessett in 1962; and her second husband, William Tennien in 1970. She was also predeceased by one brother, Charles Kenefick; and one sister, Ann Kingsley. Survivors include four sons, Daniel Bessett and his wife Karen of Groveland, Richard Bessett and his wife Colleen, Edward Bessett and his wife Holly and James Bessett, all of Ticonderoga; and one daughter, Juliann Rooker and her husband William of Ticonderoga. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wilcox and Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. William G. Muench, pastor, will officiate. The Rite of Committal will follow at the family plot of St. Mary’s Parish. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or St. Mary’s School, Ticonderoga. Clothilde G. Colliton, 96, of Tupper Lake, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at her home in Tavares, Fla. She was born Nov. 17, 1908, on Old Wawbeek Road in Tupper Lake, the daughter of Archie Edmond and Victoria (Brisson) Baril. Calling hours will be held at the Richer Funeral Home in Tupper Lake on Monday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at noon with former St. Alphonsus Pastor Donald Kramberg officiating. Burial will follow at St. Alphonsus Cemetery. |
