Published: 11/23/04Kenneth Joseph Kim ArmstrongCROWN POINT — Kenneth Joseph Kim Armstrong, 52, of Breed Hill Road, passed away Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at his residence. Born in Ticonderoga, March 2, 1952, he was the son of the late Kenneth E. Armstrong and Grace L. (Denno) Armstrong of Crown Point. Mr. Armstrong lived most of his life in Crown Point, moving from Ticonderoga at the age of 10. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War. Mr. Armstrong was employed by Pat Armstrong Trucking of Ticonderoga as a truck driver and heavy-equipment operator for many years. He was predeceased by one sister, Doreen M. Mains. Survivors in addition to his mother, Grace L. Armstrong of Crown Point, include his wife, Isabelle J. (Swinton) Armstrong; one son, Gerald K. Armstrong and his wife, Lori, of Dover, Del.; three brothers, Michael J. Armstrong of Crown Point, Anthony C. Armstrong of Clearwater, Fla., and Victor J. McLean of Palatka, Fla.; and three sisters, Cindy L. Daniels of Crown Point, Kathy J. Dyke of Bakersfield, Calif., and Amy J. Armstrong of Witherbee. he is also survived by three granddaughters, Bethany Armstrong, Caitlin Armstrong and Sammi Armstrong; and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wilcox and Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Sacred Heart Church of Crown Point. The Rev. William G. Muench, pastor, will officiate. The rite of committal will follow at the family plot of the White Church Cemetery of Crown Point. Arthur W. Pelkey Sr.KEESEVILLE — Arthur W. "Sonny" Pelkey Sr., 68, of 36 Scotts Lane, Keeseville, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Jay on April 3, 1936, the son of Arthur Sr. and Florence (Sawyer) Pelkey. He was a tractor-trailer driver for more than 30 years, his last place of employment being B.J. Whitten of Plattsburgh. He was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gladys (Peggy) Drake, whom he married Aug. 27, 1957; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest and Debbie Pelkey, Wayne and Wanda Pelkey, and Scott and Tammy Pelkey, all of Keeseville; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Paul Ero of Keeseville; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several cousins; and his mother, Florence E. Fay, of Troy, Pa. He was predeceased by his father, Arthur Pelkey Sr.; one son, Kenneth S. Pelkey; and one daughter, Christine A. Howerton. At his request there will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held noon Wednesday at the family plot in Fairview Cemetery in AuSable Forks. Memorials to him may be made to the Keeseville Rescue Squad, Keeseville, NY 12944. Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Ruby GonyoWEST CHAZY — Ruby Gonyo, 92, of West Church Street, West Chazy died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Sciota on Oct. 11, 1912, the daughter of Walter and Elizabeth (Gebo) Duprey. Ruby married Hubert Gonyo at St. Louis de France Church in Sciota on Oct. 15, 1928, and she and her husband worked the family farm for over 60 years. She enjoyed working in the barn and loved watching and caring for her cats. Survivors include one son and two daughters-in-law, Robert and Bonnie Gonyo of West Chazy and Lenora Gonyo of Bumpus, Va.; one daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Edward Baker Jr. of West Plattsburgh; five sisters, Carrie Goss, Mary Downs, Delia Trombley, Catherine LaForest and Rita Racette, all of Plattsburgh; one sister-in-law, Dorothy LaMoy of Plattsburgh; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years in 1992; a grandson, Brent Baker in 1992; one son, Donald in 1998; two sisters, Mina McKee and Della Bell; and six brothers, Richard, Walter, Abram, Edward, Fred and Leo Duprey. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy. Burial will follow in St. Louis de France Cemetery in Sciota, N.Y. Memorial donations may be made to the West Chazy Volunteer Fire Department. Francis R. BarberMorrisonville — Francis R. Barber, 73, of Morrisonville, died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born at Chazy Lake on July 6, 1931, the son of Andrew and Lorena (DuBrey) Barber. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 and was employed at SUNY Plattsburgh as a labor supervisor for over 34 years. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mildred (Trudeau) Barber; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jeffrey Skinner of Jay; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Lori Barber of Cortland; a brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Dorothy Barber of Morrisonville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Bernadette and Calvin Favro of Cadyville and Genevieve and Ronald LaDuke of Cadyville; four grandchildren, Emil Bove III, Midshipman Vincent Bove, Robin and Alexa Barber; and several nieces and nephews. His parents died before him. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29 from Holy Angels Church in Altona. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Holy Angels Church Building Fund. The O’Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh is in charge of arrangements. Helen G. JarvisPERU — Helen G. Jarvis, 91, of Elm Street, Peru, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at Meadowbrook Healthcare in Plattsburgh. She was born in Peru, June 27, 1913, the daughter of John H. and Carrie (Bigelow) Jarvis. Miss Jarvis graduated from Peru High School and Plattsburgh State Normal School. After a brief teaching career, she was employed as bookkeeper in the office of W.W. Finney and Sons in Peru. In 1941, she was employed by Champlain Valley Federal Savings and Loan Association in Plattsburgh, where she continued working until 1979. At the time of her retirement she held the offices of vice-president and corporate secretary. She was a lifetime member of Peru Community Church serving as an elder, financial secretary and treasurer and also was a member of the Champlain Valley Business and Professional Women's Club for more than 20 years. Survivors include several cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; and a brother, Carlton Jarvis. A memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Peru Community Church. Burial will follow in God's Acre Cemetery in Peru. Donations in her memory may be made to Peru Community Church or the charity of one's choice. CAROLYN M. DOUGLAS, 74, formerly of Broad Street, AuSable Forks, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at Uihlein Mercy Center, Lake Placid where she had been a resident since April 1, 1999. She was born in AuSable Forks, Nov. 17, 1930, the daughter of William and Catherine (Devins) Douglas. Calling hours will be held Tuesday 7 to 9 p.m. at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 24, at 3 p.m. at the family plot in Holy Name Cemetery, AuSable Forks. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date at Uihlein Mercy Center Chapel, Lake Placid at the convenience of the family. Bernice E. Stearns, 93, of Dover Plains, N.Y., formerly of Saranac Lake, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at the Sharon Health Care Center in Sharon, Conn. She was born in AuSable Forks, N.Y., on June 19, 1921, the daughter of Orris and Laura (Long) LaHart. Visitation will be held at Fortune - Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, from 9 to 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:15 a.m. Friday at St. Bernard's Church with Father Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake. |
