Sidney "Donald" Otis

Keene Valley — Sidney "Donald" Otis, 96, formerly of St. Huberts, passed into the arms of the Lord Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at the Uihlein Mercy Center, Lake Placid, where he had been a resident since Sept. 8, 1998.

He was born July 19, 1909, in Keene Valley, the son of John B. and Jenny (Slater) Otis.

He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, AuSable Forks and All Souls Episcopal Church of St. Huberts. Don began his career as a plumber, working with his father at St. Huberts Club. He was foreman at the plumbing shop at the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base for 20 years. He then returned to St. Huberts Club, where he retired in 1984 at the age of 76.

He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping. Don was involved in bobsledding and helped organize speed skating in the Keene area.

He is survived by a son, William and Kathy Otis of Canal, Winchester, Ohio; two daughters, Ann and Ben Straight of Upper Jay and Gayle and Carl Maicus of AuSable Forks; five grandchildren, Jeff and Sharron Straight of Canton, Mike and Debbie Straight of Upper Jay, Brian and Lisa Straight and Leo Sprague Jr., all of AuSable Forks and Sherri Valenze of Plattsburgh; ten great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; a special niece and nephew, Virginia and Bill Johnson of Pennsylvania and John L. and Michelle Otis of Keene Valley; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and a sister-in-law, Ortha Morrison of Matthews, N.C.

He was predeceased by his wife, Belva Delong-Cram, whom he married Feb. 4, 1931, in Keene Valley; she passed away Nov. 22, 1994; a brother, John W. Otis; a grandson, Clifton Straight; and a special friend, Jean Defendorf.

There are no calling hours. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, Nov. 22nd, at 2 p.m. in the Uihlein Mercy Center Chapel, Lake Placid.

Memorials to him may be made to Uihlein Mercy Center, Lake Placid, NY 12946.

Teresa A. Henry

Canton, N.Y. — Teresa A. Henry, 72, of 2206 Cty Rt. 143, Canton, N.Y., died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, in Palmetto, Fla.

She was born April 25, 1932, in Madrid, N.Y., the daughter of the late Floyd and Margaret (Garner) Gonyea.

She was a graduate of Canton Central and Ogdensburg Business School in 1953. She married Ross Henry in St. Mary’s Church in Canton on June 16, 1956; he died Jan. 25, 2003. They lived in Plattsburgh for over 30 years, before moving back to Canton in 1994. Teresa worked for the Clinton County Soil and Water Conservation Department as a secretary. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Canton, a life member of the Plattsburgh Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and the Plattsburgh American Legion. She and her husband had spent their winters in Palmetto, Fla., for the past several years.

She is survived by two sisters, Barbara Irish of Morley and Jane and her husband Ronald Darou of Cortland; a nephew, Mark Darou of Canton; and a niece, Melani Beyea of Madison, Miss.

Calling hours will be held at the O’Leary Funeral Home, 32 Park St., Canton, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church at 11 a.m. on Monday, with Rev. Timothy Canaan officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Canton.

MEMORIAL SERVICE

Newbegin — A memorial service for John L. Newbegin, 89, who died Sept. 18, 2000, and his wife, Helen P. Newbegin, 90, who died Oct. 3, 2004, will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27th, from Three Steeples United Methodist Church in Champlain. The E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Champlain is in charge of arrangements.

DEATH NOTICE

Kenneth G. Boyea, 90, of Pine Street, Plattsburgh, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Ellenburg Center, on April 16, 1914, the son of Gilbert and Dorothy (LaBombard) Boyea.

Arrangements are incomplete with the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
