Published: 11/17/04Earl George QuantockKEESEVILLE — Earl George Quantock, 68, of Hill Street, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh. Maj. Quantock was a retired U.S. Army Major who later taught at Mount Assumption Institute/Seton Catholic Central. Maj. Quantock entered the Army in 1954 while still in high school as an enlisted soldier. In 1960, he attended Officer's Candidate School and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. He entered active duty in 1962 as an Armored Cavalry Officer. Maj. Quantock served at numerous posts in the United States and around the world, including two combat tours to Vietnam in 1964 and 1969-70. He retired from the Army in 1979 with the rank of major. Maj. Quantock earned three Bronze Stars for actions in Vietnam — one of which was for Valor. His other decorations and awards include the Purple Heart Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the RVN Campaign Medal, the RVN Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star and the Combat Infantrymen's Badge. Following retirement from the Army, Maj. Quantock attended SUNY Plattsburgh, where he graduated in 1982. In 1986, he began teaching at Mount Assumption Institute where he taught until retirement from Seton Catholic Central in 1999. Maj. Quantock was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 309, a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Retired Officers Association. He was a regular bingo worker at Seton Catholic. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Phyllis M. (Gilroy) Quantock of Keeseville, N.Y.; their three children, Col. David E. Quantock and his wife Melissa of Ft Bragg, N.C., Col. Mark R. Quantock and his wife Rebecca of Washington, D.C., and Eric S. Quantock and his fiancée Sandra of Keeseville, N.Y.; his brother, Neil D. Quantock and his wife Cynthia of Waterford, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, David Jr. (20), Shannon (20), Christopher (18), Christian (17), Heather (16), Jordan (14), Ethan (11) and Cody (8); and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. Members of VFW Post 309 will meet at the funeral home at 7:15 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church in Peru. Private burial services will be held at Saratoga National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart Association. Frank D. "Scotty" Gutelius Sr.Kimbolton, Ohio — Frank D. "Scotty" Gutelius Sr., 79, of Texas, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at the home of his son, with whom he lived, in Kimbolton, Ohio. He was born in Long Island, N.Y., on Jan. 23, 1925, the son of the late Donald L. and Carmen (Perez) Gutelius. Frank was a truck driver for 55 years and a writer for magazines and books. He was a jack-of-all trades. He served in World War II in the U.S. Air Force. He is predeceased by his wife, Viola C. (Baker) Gutelius, in 2000; they were married Nov. 3, 1942; and also one grandchild, Don Plappert. He is survived by his daughters, Carmen (Wendell) Dow of St. Augustine, Fla., Diana Pratten of Riceville, Tenn., Pamela Smith of Richmond, Va., and Rene Leppert of Franklin, Pa.; his sons, Marcus (Irene) Gutelius of Sulphur, La., Warren Gutelius of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Frank (Tyronna) Gutelius Jr. of Akron, Ohio, Donald Gutelius of West Chazy, N.Y., Scott (Daisy) Gutelius of Vinton, La., and Martin Gutelius of Kimbolton, Ohio; he is also survived by a special friend, Lucille Bushey of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; 20 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are incomplete through the Chateaugay Funeral Home. Edmond Provost, 55, of Cornelia Street, Plattsburgh, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at his home. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. DOROTHY A. ALLEN, 78, of 65 West St., Malone, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at her home. She was born Aug. 22, 1926, in Fort Covington, N.Y., the daughter of Issac and Lillian (Brown) Therrien. Calling hours will be Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home chapel. A funeral service will be held Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at 10 a.m. in the St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will take place in St. John Bosco Cemetery. HELEN A. BISHOP, 85, of 78 Will Rogers Ave., Saranac Lake, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Adirondack Medical Center at Saranac Lake. She was born May 14, 1919 in Mohawk, N.Y. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. A vigil will be held 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:15 Thursday at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. |
