Published: 11/16/04Richard A. St. GermainePlattsburgh — Richard A. St. Germaine, 62, of the Goodspeed Road, passed away on Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at his home. He was born in Plattsburgh on Nov. 27, 1941, son of the late George H. and Louise (Arnold) St. Germaine. Richard served in the U.S. Navy. Richard is survived by his wife, the former Sandra Crossley; three sons, Richard St. Germaine and his companion Holly Speer of Peru, Travis St. Germaine and his wife Angie of Plattsburgh and Chad St. Germaine of Plattsburgh; four brothers, Robert St. Germaine and his wife Gloria of California, James St. Germaine and his wife Joyce of Plattsburgh, George St. Germaine of Cadyville and John St. Germaine and his wife Maryann of Cadyville; three sisters, Mary Welhouse and her husband Jim of Wisconsin, Kathleen Williams and her husband Jack of Plattsburgh and Patricia St. Germaine of Florida; two grandchildren, Abigail May St. Germaine and Richard William St. Germaine; several nieces and nephews; and his mother-in-law, Mabel Crossley of Plattsburgh. He is predeceased by a brother, Barney St. Germaine. Calling hours will be Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, from 10 to noon at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at noon in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the St. Augustine’s Cemetery in Peru. Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country. Gerald F. CassidyLake Placid — Gerald F. Cassidy, 80, of Essex Street, Lake Placid, N.Y., passed away Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. He was born in Chateaugay, N.Y., Sept. 20, 1924, the son of Lawrence and Catherine (Baker) Cassidy. Mr. Cassidy was married in 1940 to the former Frances Lundrigan. He was a graduate of Lake Placid High School and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater, serving on the USS Nashville cruiser for 26 months. Among his many business ventures in the 1960s, he was proprietor of the Arena Grill and G. Cassidy’s Distributing Company; from the early 1970s to the early 1980s, he owned Jerry’s Texaco in Saranac Lake and the Chubb River Tavern in Lake Placid. Jerry worked for Tri-Lakes Ford for many years. He recently worked for Sugar Creek Convenience Store, Top’s Express and the Village of Lake Placid as a parking attendant in the municipal lot. Mr. Cassidy helped organize the Lake Placid Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1959. He was one of the founders and first president of the Lake Placid Pee-Wee Association. He was a member of St. Agnes Church, the Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce, the Lake Placid Sports Council and he was a Lake Placid village assessor. Gerald was a member of the Lake Placid Village Board, serving for 18 years from 1972 to 1990, a member of the Lake Placid Lions Club from 1961 to the present and a member of the Lake Placid American Legion from 1945 to the present. He was instrumental in obtaining and erecting the Lake Placid toboggan slide. His greatest enjoyment in life was attending his children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting and academic events. Gerald is survived by his wife, Frances Cassidy of Lake Placid; three sons, Richard Cassidy and his wife Linda of Lake Placid and Fort Pierce, Fla., Gerald Cassidy Jr. of California, and Scott Cassidy and his wife Lori-Ann of West Palm Beach, Fla.; he is also survived by three daughters, Diane Richie of Schenectady, N.Y., Linda Scheefer and her husband Robert of Saranac Lake and Kathleen Pallotta and her husband Vito of Lake Placid and Vero Beach, Fla. There is also one brother, Daniel Cassidy and his wife Bunnie of Indianapolis, Ind.; three sisters, Eileen Efner and her husband William of Schenectady, Mary Sullivan and her husband Thomas of Hudson, N.Y., and Julia LaSalle of Liverpool, N.Y., and West Palm Beach, Fla.; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A sister, Rita Cassidy; and two brothers, Leonard and Thomas Cassidy, all died earlier. Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid on Wednesday, Nov. 17th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. An American Legion prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. followed by a Bible vigil service. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, Nov. 18th, at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid. Rev Michael Gaffney and Rev. Patrick O’Reilly will officiate. Burial will follow In St. Agnes Cemetery. The family suggests donations in his memory be made to the Lake Placid Pee-Wee Association, P.O. Box 129, Lake Placid, NY 12946. Azilee "Cookie" Poissant, 84, passed away Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Eagan, Tenn., on Sept. 17, 1920, the daughter of Lee and Mary (Rutherford) Evans. The R.W. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Shirley Ann Scanlon LaFave, 71, of Church Street, Bombay, died at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, after being stricken at her home. She was born in Ft. Covington, N.Y., on Feb. 20, 1933, the daughter of the late Floyd and Gertrude (Doonan) Scanlon. Calling hours will be in the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home in Ft. Covington on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian burial at noon in St. Joseph’s Church in Bombay with the Rev. Stephen Rocker, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. |
