Louis Dion

Plattsburgh — Louis Dion, 73, of Oak Street, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at the Clinton County Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.

He was born in St. Sylvester, Quebec, Canada, on April 30, 1931, son of Rosaire and Yvonne (Drouin) Dion.

Louis was a member of the Carpenter's Local 1042 for 37 years, having been employed by various local contractors, retiring in 1994 from Murnane Building Contractors.

He was a member of St. Peter's Church, an avid fisherman and hunter and particularly enjoyed his wood- working shop. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and a good cigar while hooking a nice trout!

Louis is survived by his wife, Monique (Farley) Dion of Plattsburgh; they were married in Canada on May 23, 1959; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne and John Gratto of Ballston Spa and Estelle and Stephen Lapham of Beekmantown; and one son, Normand Dion of Plattsburgh; and nine grandchildren, Kristie, Nicholas and Stephanie Gratto, Shannon, Jason, Kayla and Brittany Lapham and Andre and Gabrielle Dion. He also leaves behind six sisters, Rita Huppe, Fernande Caux, Gisele Vachon and Rachel Dion of Quebec, Mrs. Robert (Cecile) Moffat of Peru and Florence Fontaine of Massachusetts.

Louis is predeceased by his parents, Rosaire and Yvonne Dion; two sisters, Lucille Perreault and Jeanine Montminy; and three brothers, Marcel, Andre and Claude Dion.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at noon at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will immediately follow in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his memory at a reception to follow the Mass and burial ceremony at the Veterans of Foreign Wars on Boynton Avenue in Plattsburgh.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Assistance Center at SUNY Plattsburgh, 101 Broad St., Sibley Hall - 227, Plattsburgh, NY 12901-2681.

Howard J. Barry

Titusville, Fla. — Howard J. Barry, 82, died suddenly on Nov. 5, 2004.

Howard was born on June 5, 1922, in Manhattan, N.Y.

After serving four years in the U.S. Navy, he worked as a printer. He lived in Nesconset, N.Y., for 48 years and moved to Titusville, Fla., in the summer of 2004. Howard was an avid sports fan and enjoyed working with electronics. Howard was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He married Rosina J. Barry (Schaule) on Nov. 4, 1944. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Dorothy and her husband William Larmon of Lake Luzerne, N.Y.; granddaughter Jennifer and her husband Patrick Hicks of Morrisonville, N.Y., and granddaughter Amy Larmon of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; and great-grandchildren Arianna Lennon and Shawn Hicks of Morrisonville, N.Y.

There will be no public calling hours. There will be a private burial at the discretion of the family.

Donations in his memory may be made to the charity of one’s choosing.

Duane G. Tremblay

Champlain — Duane G. Tremblay, 64, of 1100 Main St., Champlain, died on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, surrounded by his family, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Plattsburgh on Nov. 5, 1940, the son of Leon (Snoot) Tremblay and Eunice (Maynard) Tremblay.

Duane was a lifelong resident of Champlain. After graduating from M.A.I. in 1958, he worked for Tremblay Chevrolet Sales in Champlain until 1967 and for Anchor Motor Freight until 1970. From 1970 through 1993, he was the service manager at Bill McBride Chevrolet in Plattsburgh and from 1997 to the present, Duane was in charge of building maintenance at the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department and Jail. He also owned and operated Tremblay Enterprises, a commercial locksmithing business.

In April of 1962, Duane became a member of the Champlain Fire Department and remained active through 1989. He served as chief from 1965 - 1966 and later on the Clinton County Fire Coordinator team.

His leisure time activities and hobbies have always included bowling, gardening, playing cards and horseshoes.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Barbara; a son, Kevin and wife Penny; three daughters, Kim Boyea and husband Jay, Krystal and Karrie; three grandchildren, Eric and Korey Tremblay and Amy Boyea, all of Champlain; several nieces and nephews; brothers Dale and his wife Dagne of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Deane and his wife Debi of Champlain.

He was predeceased by his father, Leon and his mother, Eunice; and his twin daughters, Carol and Cheryl.

At his request, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary’s Church and interment will follow immediately at the parish cemetery.

A reception in his honor will take place at the Knights of Columbus in Champlain following the burial service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Champlain EMS and/or the Fire Department.

Grace Florence Wright Tallman

Peru and NorthField Falls, VT — Florence Wright Tallman, 88, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at her son's home in Northfield Falls. She was born Feb. 27, 1916, in Saranac, N.Y., the daughter of Ernest Augustus and Mable Jane (Salls) Wright. She is a graduate of Cadyville High School, Class of 1933. She continued her education at Plattsburgh Normal School, now Plattsburgh Stale University, graduating in 1937.

She married Frederick Tallman in Saranac, N.Y., on July 12, 1942.

Mrs. Tallman was a school teacher at Saranac Central School from 1937 to 1942, the last three years as principal. She later joined Marriott Food Service, working at Plattsburgh State University. She received awards at the university for her dedicated service. Grace knew virtually all of the students by name. A special time of year was Christmas; Grace made extensive Christmas as well as many other holiday decorations for the dining hall by hand.

She was a member of the Plattsburgh United Methodist Church.

Survivors include four sons, Dr. Frederick Ernest Tallman and his wife Charlotte of Northfield Falls, David James Tallman and his wife Margaret of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Alan Wright Tallman of Ft. Montgomery, N.Y., Richard Charles Tallman and his wife Louise of St. Albans, Vt.; one brother, James Cecil Wright of Cadyville, N.Y.; one sister, Genevieve Catherine Wright Bull of Saranac, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, Grace Marion Tallman Gooding of Huntington, WVa., Charlene Ann Tallman McMannis of Williston, Vt., Leonard Fronhofer V of Hartford, N.Y., Mark Fronhofer of Franklin, Vt., Charles David Tallman of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Robert Edward Tallman of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Alison Tallman of West Nyack, N.Y., and Meredith Tallman of New City, N.Y.; four great-grandchildren, Evan Frederick Gooding, Christopher Nils Gooding, Cayla Amoreena Fiske-Fronhofer and Bethany Tate Fiske-Fronhofer; and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband, Frederick Tallman; three sisters, Bertha Gladys Wright, Mary Elizabeth Wright Cody and Edith Marguerite Wright Bull; three brothers, William Henry Wright, Charles Augustus Wright and Francis Ernest Wright; one grandson, Bruce Wright Tallman; and a grandnephew, Brock Ryan Wright.

There are no calling hours. A funeral service will be held Thursday, Nov. 11th, at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Northfield. Burial will take place Friday, Nov. 12th, at 11 a.m. at Saranac Independence Cemetery in Saranac, N.Y., followed by a reception at the United Methodist Church in Plattsburgh at noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the United Church of Northfield Restoration Project, PO Box 188, Northfield, VT 05663 or the United Methodist Church in Plattsburgh.

Kingston Funeral Home in Northfield, Vt., is in charge of the arrangements.

Lawence E. Packard, 87, of Oak Street, Plattsburgh, formerly of Saranac, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at Meadowbrook Health Care.

He was born in Brockton, Mass., on Aug. 22, 1917, the son of Josiah and Nellie (Hannah) Packard.

Private calling hours will be held for the family.

A funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the High Banks Seventh Day Adventist Church.

The R.W. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Martha E. Aust, 98, of 89 Greenwood St., Lake Placid, died Nov. 8, 2004, at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid, where she had been a resident since October.

She was born in Dickenson Center on Aug. 24, 1906, the daughter of Olin W. and Hattie S. (Besau) Bean.

Calling hours will be held at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid on Thursday from 4:30 to 6 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Peter Francis. Cremation will follow. Burial will be held at a later date at North Elba Cemetery.

Rose Mary Green, 85, of 89 Greenwood St., Lake Placid, died Nov. 4, 2004, at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid.

She was born in Cranston, R.I., on Sept. 2, 1919, the daughter of Bernard and Mary (Coneally) Green.

There are no calling hours. Burial will take place at the St. Anne’s Cemetery in Rhode Island.

The Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements.
