Eugene R. Alphonso

Cadyville/Lake Como, Fla. — Mr. Eugene R. Alphonso, 81, of Lake Como, Fla., and formerly of Cadyville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at the Bradford Nursing Home in Starke, Fla. He was born in Bloomingdale on Nov. 17, 1922, son of the late Antonio and Santa (D’Alfonso) Alphonso, who resided in Lyon Mountain and Cadyville for many years.

Eugene was in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a barber in Cadyville. He moved to Florida in the late 1970s, where he also did painting and maintenance work.

He is survived by one sister, Mary Martinetti of Manchester, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews, one being Lewis K. Grew of Sarasota, Fla., who has helped him during the last years of his failing health.

Eugene is predeceased by his parents; and 11 brothers and sisters, Morris Alphonso, Julia Skiff, Foster Alphonso, Larino J. Alphonso, Anna Francois, Stantina Mitchell-Elson, Larino A. Alphonso, Antonio A. Alphonso, Virginia Grew and Yolanda Benware.

At his request, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in St. Paul’s Cemetery in Bloomingdale, where he will be interred near his parents and other family members.

Sympathies may be sent to his sister, Mary Martinetti, at 12C Summer St., Apt. #17, Manchester, MA 01944.

Arletta Sheeley Shappy, 87, of Willsboro and Keene Valley, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at the Elizabethtown Hospital.

She was born in Willsboro on Jan. 25, 1917, the daughter of Charles and Hattie (Ash) Drinkwine.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Huestis Funeral Home in Willsboro. Burial will follow in the Memorial Cemetery, Lakeshore Road, Willsboro.

Shirley M. Seymour, 67, of Middle Road, Crown Point, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Plattsburgh, Aug. 19, 1937, the daughter of Herman and Bessie (Thatcher) Caldwell.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Monsignor Lawrence M. Deno, pastor of the St. James Minor Church in Cadyville, officiating. A graveside service and burial will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Fairview Cemetery in Crown Point.
