Published: 11/1/04John E. MerrowWESTPORT — John E. "Jack" (Mero) Merrow, 94, of Westport, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004 at the Horace Nye Nursing Home in Elizabethtown. He was born in Westport on July 19, 1910, the son of Lewis and Ellen (Couchey) Merrow. He was a 50-year member of the Westport Fire Department and also enjoyed woodworking. Survivors include his daughter, Janice L. Pierce of Westport; a son-in-law, W.J. Deschamps of Loudonville; five grandchildren and spouses, James Deschamps, Joel and Eleanor Deschamps, Jeffery and Leta Pierce, John Jr. and Tanya Mero, and Kelley Mero Francis and husband, Brian; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Nina Mero, on Nov. 2, 1983; a daughter, Joan Deschamps, on July 25, 1996; a son, John R. "Gus" Mero; a son-in-law, Fred Pierce, Sept. 28, 2003; and brothers and sisters. Calling hours will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Westport. A funeral service will follow at the Hamilton Funeral Home at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Fred Shaw, pastor of the United Church of Christ in Elizabethtown, officiating. Burial will follow in the Black River Cemetery in Westport. Donations in his memory may be made to the Westport Fire Department of Emergency Squad. MINNIE CORNELL, 75, of Childwold, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at her home. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Fortune-Keough-Rennell Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Tupper Lake Baptist Church. JOHN F. GRUBE, 90, of Route 22B, Schuyler Falls, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004 at the CVPH Medical Center. He was born in Beekmantown on April 18, 1914, the son of Paul and Mabel Ellen (Cassidy) Grube. A funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Brown Funeral Home. Interment will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery. CHAUNCY K. TILLSON, 97, of 87 Sunset Ridge, Mountain View, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at the Stoneybrook Assisted Living Center in Manhattan, Kans. Born in Farnham, Quebec, Canada, on May 22, 1907, he was the son of the late Chauncy J. and Isabella K. Schindler Tilson. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. John Werley officiating. Burial will be in the Morningside Cemetery in Malone. |
